Kunming Airport Economic Zone

As a gateway to Southeast Asia, South Asia and Eurasia, Kunming Changshui International Airport is another national gateway hub airport following in the footsteps of Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. With a 4F-level flight area, the airport can handle 27 million passengers and 600,000 tons of cargo.

Centered around Kunming Changshui International Airport, the Kunming Airport Economic Zone was set up after approval of the municipal Party committee and government in February 2005. It is located 20 km northeast of downtown Kunming covering a planned area of 160 square kilometers, 10 square kilometers of which will be developed first in the near future.

A comprehensive transportation system integrating aviation, railway transportation, urban railway transit and expressway transportation will be set up within a 200-km radius around the airport. It will be the first in the country to establish an advanced and efficient comprehensive transportation pattern.

At the same time, the government is striving to build an international, eco-friendly and modernized airport industrial zone. Relying on the national gateway hub airport and focusing on the growth of the aviation economy, the government will prioritize the development of six industries, namely the aviation logistics industry, airport service industry, high-tech industry concerning air transportation, international commercial exhibition industry, eco-leisure and sports industry, and metropolitan modern agriculture industry.

The Kunming Airport Economic Zone will serve as a gateway to Southeast Asia and South Asia, and as a cross-Eurasia hub for air passenger traffic and air logistics.
