Longtan Township (龙潭乡) is located in the northeastern part of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), situated in the mountainous area between Xiaohedi River (小河底河) and Yuanjiang Basin (元江坝子). The area resembles the profile of a heroic male figure on a map. It borders Wadie Township (洼垤乡) to the southeast, Lijiang Subdistrict (澧江街道) to the southwest, Ganzhuang Subdistrict (甘庄街道) to the northwest, and faces Baoxiu Town (宝秀镇) of Shiping County (石屏县) across the river to the northeast. The township government, located in Longtan Village (龙潭村), is about 54 kilometers from the county seat.
Longtan Township (龙潭乡) has a long and rich history. In 1949, it belonged to Renli Township (仁里乡). It became Denger Commune (邓耳公社) in 1958, and was reorganized into Longtan Township in 1988. Historically, this area served as a military stronghold. In the Ming Dynasty, military posts were established here, followed by “military ponds” (军塘) in the Qing Dynasty, under the administration of Yuanjiang Garrison (元江营).
Longtan Township is home to multiple ethnic groups, primarily the Yi (彝族), Hani (哈尼族), and Dai (傣族) peoples.

Mili Township (咪哩乡) is located in the southwest of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi, and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), 34 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Honghe Subdistrict (红河街道) to the east, Yinyuan Town (因远镇) to the south, and Manlai Town (曼来镇) to the northwest. Situated on the eastern slope of the main ridge of the Ailao Mountains (哀牢山), the terrain is predominantly mountainous, with higher elevations in the northwest and lower in the southeast.
Mili Township (咪哩乡) is the hometown of patriotic democratic figure Li Hecai (李和才) and boasts rich historical and cultural resources with a strong revolutionary legacy. The Former Residence of Li Hecai (李和才故居), located at No. 3, Mili Street (咪哩街3号), was built in 1933 and served as an important base for revolutionary movements in southern Yunnan. Other notable historical sites include the site of the Xiaobaishu Military and Political Cadre Training Class (小柏木军政干部训练班旧址).
Mili Township (咪哩乡) is predominantly inhabited by the Hani ethnic group (哈尼族), making up 84% of the population. Major subgroups include Duota (堕塔), Budu (布都), and Biyue (碧约). The region celebrates a variety of traditional festivals. One of the most important is the “Api Tu” (阿批突) sacrificial ceremony, a Hani ritual for blessings, held on the first Goat or Monkey day after the sixteenth day of the first lunar month. Other traditional festivals include “Masha Zao” (玛舍早), “Kunu Zao” (苦奴早), and “Laipupu” (唻铺铺).

Wadie Township (洼垤乡) is located in the southeastern part of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市). It sits at the junction of Yuanjiang, Shiping (石屏), and Honghe (红河) counties. To the east, it is bordered by the Xiaohedi River (小河底河), facing Niujie Township (牛街乡) and Maohe Township (冒合乡) of Shiping County. In the southwest, it is adjacent to Lijiang Subdistrict (澧江街道) and Langdi Township (浪堤乡) of Honghe County, while to the north it borders Longtan Township (龙潭乡).
Wadie Township has a long history and is home to the Sani branch of the Yi ethnic group (彝族撒摩人). It played a significant role in the revolutionary movement in southern Yunnan. The former site of the Southern Yunnan Prefecture Committee of the Communist Party of China (中共滇南地委), also the former site of the Yuanjiang County Committee (中共元江县委), is located in Wadie Village (洼垤村), Wadie Community (洼垤社区). In 2023, it was recognized as one of Yuxi City’s first group of municipal-level revolutionary sites.
Another historical landmark is Wenchang Palace (文昌宫), built in 1853 during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. It later became the campus of Wadie Central Primary School and has a history of over 170 years in education.
Wadie Township is predominantly inhabited by the Yi ethnic group (彝族), with a strong cultural presence. The unique Yi script, traditional clothing, and wine and tobacco customs reflect the area’s ethnic heritage.
The traditional “Ali Cultural Festival” (阿哩文化节) is an important holiday for the Sani people of the Yi ethnic group. It showcases Yi culture through songs, music, and dance performances. Additionally, the Yi love song tradition known as “Ali” (阿哩) was listed as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage in 2017.

Nanuo Township (那诺乡) is located in the southeastern part of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi, and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Lijiang Subdistrict (澧江街道) to the east. To the southeast and south, the Nanhen River (南昏河) serves as a natural boundary separating it from Dayangjie Township (大羊街乡) and Chegu Township (车古乡) of Honghe County (红河县), Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (红河哈尼族彝族自治州). To the west, it connects with Chegu Township (车古乡) via Meipu Third Village (梅普三村) in Langshu Village (浪树村). To the north, it borders Yangjie Township (羊街乡) via Nilang River (尼朗河) and Shapoliangzi Ridge (沙坡梁子). The township seat, Nanuo Village (那诺村), is 66 kilometers from the county seat.
Nanuo Township (那诺乡) was officially established in December 1987. Historically, it belonged to the “Fourth District” of Yuanjiang during the Republican era and was under the jurisdiction of Zhujie Town (猪街镇) in 1928. The township is predominantly inhabited by the Hani ethnic group (哈尼族), making up 92.42% of the population. The Hani people here have preserved rich cultural traditions and ethnic customs.
Nanuo Township (那诺乡) celebrates a variety of traditional Hani festivals, including the “Hani October New Year” (哈尼十月年), the “Yellow Rice Festival” (黄饭节), and the “Kuzhazha Festival” (苦扎扎节). The most important among these is the “Hani October New Year” (哈尼十月年), considered the Hani people’s equivalent of the Lunar New Year. It begins on the first Dragon Day of the tenth lunar month and lasts for thirteen days. During these festivals, locals engage in traditional cultural activities such as swinging and singing-dancing performances.
Nanuo Township (那诺乡) enjoys an average annual temperature of 16.5°C and an annual rainfall of about 800 mm, mostly concentrated between June and October. The best time to view the cloud sea over the terraced fields is from November to March, when foggy mornings give way to breathtaking scenery of mist-covered rice terraces.

Yangjie Township (羊街乡) is located in the southeastern part of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It stretches 17 kilometers from east to west and 13 kilometers from north to south, with a total land area of 202.05 square kilometers. The township government is based in Yangjie Village (羊街村), 46 kilometers from the county seat. This mountainous area is part of the Ailao Mountain Range (哀牢山系), featuring a terrain that is high in the north and south and lower in the east and west.
Yangjie Township (羊街乡) boasts a long history, with the establishment of Zhongxiang District (中乡) as early as 1913 during the second year of the Republic of China. In 1958, it was divided into Yangjie and Nanuo Communes and officially renamed Yangjie Township in 1983. It has long been home to ethnic minorities, primarily the Hani people (哈尼族), whose cultural richness includes the renowned Hani Palm Fan Dance (哈尼族棕扇舞), listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Hani people (哈尼族) make up 87% of the local population. The Hani Palm Fan Dance (哈尼族棕扇舞) is a unique and highly valued folk art form. Yangjie Township also celebrates various ethnic festivals, most notably the “Hani October New Year” (哈尼族“十月年”).

Manlai Town (曼来镇) is located in the northwest of Yuanjiang Hani, Yi, and Dai Autonomous County (元江哈尼族彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is bordered by Ganzhuang Subdistrict (甘庄街道办事处) across the river to the east, Lijiang Subdistrict (澧江街道办事处) to the south, Dafengyakou Gold Mine and Mojiang County (墨江县) to the west, and Xinping County (新平县) to the north. The town government is seated in Manlai Community (曼来社区), which is about 16 km from the county seat. Manlai Town covers a total area of approximately 414.78 square kilometers.
Manlai Town (曼来镇) was officially established in August 2011 through the merger of Dong’e Town (东峨镇), Yangchajie Township (羊岔街乡), and Hongguang Farm (红光农场). The region has a long history and was traditionally inhabited by the Hani ethnic group and other minorities, boasting rich cultural heritage. In July 2014, Manlai was designated a National Key Town by seven ministries including the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
The majority of the population in Manlai Town (曼来镇) is Hani (哈尼族), and the town maintains a colorful and diverse cultural landscape. Traditional festivals such as the “October New Year” (十月年) are still widely celebrated. The town is also known for its traditional Hani embroidery and ethnic music and dance performances.
