Day 1 Kunming to Dali Tour with Chuxiong Museum and Yunnanyi Old Town

7:30 AM - Departure from Kunming

Begin your day early with a comfortable drive from Kunming to Dali.

The journey offers a glimpse of Yunnan’s countryside, with scenic views of rolling hills and rural villages.

9:00 AM - Optional Visit: Lufeng Dinosaur Museum Valley

On the way, you can opt for a visit to the Lufeng Dinosaur Museum, one of the most important paleontological sites in China.

Learn about the prehistoric dinosaurs that once roamed this area, and explore impressive fossil exhibits. This stop will take around 1 to 1.5 hours.

10:30 AM - Stop at Yiren Old Town

Continue your journey and make a stop at Yiren Old Town in Chuxiong.

Walk through this charming historical town, where you’ll find traditional buildings, local crafts, and ethnic culture. It’s an excellent place to capture photos and learn about Yunnan's past.

11:30 AM - Chuxiong Museum and Ten-Month Lunar Year Park

Visit the Chuxiong Museum, where you can explore exhibits on Yi culture and the region's rich history.

Afterward, stroll through the Ten-Month Lunar Year Park, dedicated to showcasing the unique cultural heritage of the Yi people. This visit will give you insight into the traditions and customs that have shaped this region for centuries.

1:00 PM - Lunch Break

Enjoy a delicious local lunch in Chuxiong or Xiangyun, sampling the Yunnanese cuisine, known for its fresh herbs, spices, and rice noodles.

2:30 PM - Visit Yunnanyi Old Town in Xiangyun

Next, continue to Xiangyun and explore Yunnanyi Old Town.

This town is known for its traditional architecture and vibrant local markets, where you can browse through various handicrafts and souvenirs. Spend some time soaking in the atmosphere before heading to Dali.

4:00 PM - Arrival in Dali

Arrive in Dali, a picturesque town surrounded by Erhai Lake and the Cangshan Mountains.

You’ll have the afternoon free to explore Dali Old Town at your own pace.

Wander through the ancient streets.
Visit local shops selling Yunnanese handicrafts and souvenirs.
Relax at one of the many local cafes and enjoy the views of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake.
If time permits, visit Dali's Three Pagodas, a famous landmark.
6:30 PM - Free Time for Dinner

Choose from a variety of restaurants in Dali Old Town and enjoy a dinner of fresh local fish from Erhai Lake or other Yunnanese specialties.

8:00 PM - End of Tour / Return to Kunming (Optional)

After a fulfilling day of exploration, you can choose to stay overnight in Dali or take a return journey to Kunming, which would take around 4-5 hours by car.
