Jiulong Subdistrict (九龙街道) is located in the northwest of Tonghai County (通海县), Yuxi City (玉溪市). It borders Sijie Town (四街镇) and Xingmeng Township (兴蒙乡) to the east, Jiujie Town (九街镇) to the south, Eshan County (峨山县) and Hongta District (红塔区) to the west, and Jiangchuan District (江川区) to the north. In the late Qing Dynasty, the area belonged to the Western District of Tonghai County’s (通海县) five administrative divisions. The terrain is higher in the northwest and lower in the southeast, with an average elevation of about 1,800 meters.
Jiulong Subdistrict (九龙街道) has a long history. In 1941, it comprised Jin’an Township (金安乡) and Jiulong Town (九龙镇) among Tonghai County’s (通海县) eight townships. After Tonghai’s liberation on December 13, 1949, eight new townships were established in the area. In February 1950, Jin’an Township (金安乡) and Jiulong Town (九龙镇) merged to form the Third District. In October 1958, it became Jinshan Commune (金山公社), later divided into Jinshan (金山) and Jiujie (九街) communes in 1961. These merged back into the Third District in August 1962, became Jiujie Commune (九街公社) in March 1969, then Jiujie District (九街区) in December 1983, Jiujie Township (九街乡) in 1987, and Jiujie Town (九街镇) in August 1997. On January 10, 2011, it was reclassified as a subdistrict.
Jiulong Subdistrict (九龙街道) is home to 15 ethnic groups including Han, Yi (彝), Hani (哈尼), Bai (白), Zhuang (壮), Hui (回), Miao (苗), Buyi (布依), Dai (傣), Naxi (纳西), Wa (佤), Mongolian (蒙古), Lisu (傈僳), Lahu (拉祜), and Dong (侗), living together harmoniously in a “mixed yet clustered” pattern. The area boasts diverse folk culture, such as the beam-raising ceremony for traditional wooden architecture documented at Guansheng Palace (关圣宫) in Dahezu Community (大河嘴社区) on September 7, 2021. Other cultural performances include high-platform shows (高台), stilt lion dances (高跷舞狮), and dragon dances (舞龙).

Under the Dali Kingdom of the Song Dynasty, “Xiushan Prefecture” (秀山郡) was established, making Tonghai the prefectural seat. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Tonghai flourished in culture and education, earning titles such as “The Most Elegant of Southern Yunnan” (秀甲南滇), “Land of Rites and Music” (礼乐名邦), and “Crown of the Southern Region” (冠冕南州). The ancient city layout of Xiushan Subdistrict is well-preserved, featuring over 200 Ming and Qing dynasty residences.

Jiucun Town (九村镇) is located in a mountain valley in the central part of Chengjiang City (澄江市), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). To the northeast, it faces Yiliang County (宜良县), Kunming City (昆明市) across the Nanpan River (南盘江); it borders Haikou Town (海口镇) to the south, and adjoins Yousuo Town (右所镇), Longjie Subdistrict (龙街街道), and Yangzong Town (阳宗镇) to the northwest. The town government is situated on Jiulong Street (九龙街), about 7.8 kilometers from the Chengjiang city center. The total area covers approximately 109.3 square kilometers.
Jiucun Town (九村镇) has a long history. Its name originates from the nine villages travelers pass through when journeying from Chengjiang County (澄江县) to the area. In 1950, the area was under the jurisdiction of Fengren District (凤仁区). After several administrative adjustments, it was restructured from a township into a town in 2002 and renamed Jiucun Town (九村镇).
Jiucun Town (九村镇) is predominantly inhabited by the Han ethnic group. Traditional customs are mainly expressed through the celebration of festivals, such as visiting relatives and performing dragon and lion dances during the Spring Festival. During the autumn harvest, locals also celebrate with thanksgiving activities, reflecting their love for life and gratitude for nature.
Due to significant elevation differences, Jiucun Town (九村镇) experiences a variety of climates, including mid-subtropical, southern temperate, and subalpine zones. Yousuo Town (右所镇) is located in the central part of Chengjiang City (澄江市), Yuxi (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省), along the shores of Fuxian Lake (抚仙湖). It spans from 102°47′09″ to 102°57′20″ east longitude and 24°30′30″ to 24°46′18″ north latitude. To the east, it borders Jiucun Town (九村镇) and Haikou Town (海口镇); to the south lies Fuxian Lake (抚仙湖); to the west are Longjie Town (龙街镇) and Fenglu Town (凤麓镇); and to the north is Yangzong Town (阳宗镇). The town government is approximately 4.5 kilometers from downtown Chengjiang City (澄江市).
Yousuo Town (右所镇) has a long and rich history. During the fifth year of the Longqing reign in the Ming Dynasty (1571), the region was part of the Wuwei defense system and named “Yousuo” after the Right Garrison. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the area was known as Qingpingli (清平里). During the Republic of China period, its administrative name changed several times. In March 1950, it was established as Dingqing District (鼎清区), changed to Yousuo Township (右所乡) in January 1988, and became Yousuo Town (右所镇) in October 1997.
Yousuo Town (右所镇) is known for its vibrant folk culture, most notably the Yi ethnic group’s “Left-Foot Dance” (左脚舞), which has a history of over 1,000 years.
