Zhelong Township (者竜乡) is located in the northwest of Xinping Yi and Dai Autonomous County (新平彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), on the eastern foothills of the middle section of the Ailao Mountains (哀牢山) and the west bank of the Shiyang River (石羊江). To the east, it faces Ainishan Township (爱尼山乡) of Shuangbai County (双柏县), Chuxiong Prefecture (楚雄州) across the Shiyang River (石羊江). To the south, it borders Shuitang Town (水塘镇); to the west, it neighbors Jiujia Township (九甲乡) of Zhenyuan County (镇沅县), Pu’er City (普洱市), along the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve (哀牢山国家级自然保护区); and to the north, it adjoins E’jia Town (鄂嘉镇) of Shuangbai County (双柏县). The township government is located in Dahuangdi (大荒地), 134 kilometers from the county seat, covering a total area of approximately 306 square kilometers.
Zhelong Township (者竜乡) has a long history, dating back to the Dali Kingdom (大理国) period (938–1254) when it belonged to the Malong Territory (马龙部, present-day Mosha 漠沙). In 1950, the township was divided into five districts, with the former Fuchang Township (富昌乡, present-day Gasa 戛洒) and Fengzhu Township (凤翥乡) merged to form the Fifth District. In 1988, it was officially renamed Zhelong Township (者竜乡). The name “Zhelong” comes from the Dai language, meaning “larger ancient city.”
Zhelong Township (者竜乡) is a typical Yi ethnic township with rich and diverse folk culture. Every February of the lunar calendar, the traditional Yi festival “Dragon Worship Festival” (祭龙节) is held, where villagers dress in ethnic costumes, dance, sing, and celebrate. Other traditional festivals include the March Fair (三月会), Torch Festival (火把节), and Lantern Festival (正月十五节). From the 12th to the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the township also hosts the Folk Walnut Festival (民间核桃节).
Zhelong Township (者竜乡) has a subtropical monsoon climate with mild temperatures and distinct vertical climate features. The average annual temperature is 17.5°C, with an extreme high of 33°C and an extreme low of -6°C. The average annual rainfall is 1,234.6 mm, concentrated between June and November. The best times to visit are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is pleasant and the scenery is beautiful.

Pingzhang Township is located in the southwestern part of Xinhua Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City (玉溪市新平彝族傣族自治县西南部). Its coordinates range from 23°48′30″N to 23°50′23″N latitude and 101°31′50″E to 101°35′18″E longitude. To the northeast lies the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve (哀牢山自然保护区), to the southeast borders Jianxing Township (建兴乡), to the southwest adjoins Mojiang County (墨江县), and to the west connects with Zhenyuan County (镇沅县).
Pingzhang Township boasts a long history as an integral part of Xinhua County. It was once a vital ancient transportation hub, with the Guma River Ferry (谷麻江渡口) witnessing pivotal moments during Yunnan’s liberation. The township is predominantly inhabited by the Yi ethnic group (彝族), preserving rich cultural traditions such as Yi folk songs, “jumping flute” duets (跳笙对歌), and other heritage practices passed down through generations.
Pingzhang Township is renowned for its diverse ethnic traditions. The most representative festivals include the Dai Water-Splashing Festival (傣族泼水节) and the Yi Mountain-Paying Festival (彝族朝山会). The Water-Splashing Festival, held on the first Tiger Day after the Lantern Festival (正月十五后首个属虎日), symbolizes unity, friendship, and abundant harvests. The Mountain-Paying Festival features opera performances, spinning top competitions, and traditional Yi dances.

Jianxing Township is situated in the southwestern part of Xinhua Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City (玉溪市新平彝族傣族自治县西南部).
