Xiya Village (西牙村) belongs to the Zhetu Village Committee (者兔村委会), Zhetu Township (者兔乡), Guangnan County (广南县), Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is located in the southwest of Zhetu Township, just 2 kilometers from the township government and about 44 kilometers from Guangnan County seat. The village lies in a semi-mountainous area, covering approximately 9 square kilometers, with an elevation of 1,426 meters, an average annual temperature of 17.6°C, and an annual rainfall of 1,056 mm.
Xiya Village (西牙村) was founded between the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China era. Originally named “Xiya” (西芽), the name derives from the presence of four ravines within the village. In November 2014, Xiya Village was listed in the third batch of Traditional Chinese Villages (中国传统村落). The village architecture is mainly composed of traditional Zhuang stilt houses (“Diaojiaolou” 吊脚楼), many of which have a history of over a hundred years and serve as vital carriers of Zhuang culture.
Xiya Village preserves many unique Zhuang cultural traditions. The stilt houses are built along the mountains, creating a spectacular layered architectural cluster. Lido Village (里夺村) is located in the Zhema Village Committee (者妈村委会), Zhetu Township (者兔乡), Guangnan County (广南县), Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). Situated in a semi-mountainous area, the village is 56 kilometers from Guangnan County seat, 12 kilometers from the Zhetu Township government, and 5 kilometers from the village committee center. Lido Village consists of seven villager groups, divided into Dali Duo (大里夺) and Xiaoli Duo (小里夺), with 446 households and a total population of 2,084, all belonging to the Zhuang ethnic group.
Lido Village (里夺村) was established during the Qing Dynasty. The name “Lido” (里夺) means “place” and “deep valley” in Chinese, reflecting the village’s location in a deep valley. According to legend, in the early Ming Dynasty, five brothers fled to Guangnan County to escape war. The youngest brother, enchanted by the picturesque landscape, chose to settle here, giving rise to the village name “Lido”. In November 2014, Lido Village was included in the third batch of the Traditional Chinese Villages (中国传统村落) list.
Lido Village retains many unique Zhuang cultural traditions. The village features traditional stilt houses (“Diaojiaolou” 杆栏式吊脚楼), an architectural style with over a century of history and considered a treasure of Chinese architectural heritage. Traditional dance activities such as the Bronze Drum Dance (铜鼓舞), Handkerchief Dance (手巾舞), and Fan Dance (扇子舞) are still performed. Shimen Village (石门村) is located in Songyuan Village Committee (松元村委会), Haikou Town (海口镇), Chengjiang City (澄江市), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). This ancient Yi (彝族) village faces south and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The village got its name from the stone gate at the only entrance. It is approximately 27 kilometers from Chengjiang City.
Shimen Village was first established during the late Ming (明) to early Qing (清) dynasties. In November 2014, it was listed as one of the third batch of national traditional villages by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The village still preserves over 200 years of traditional residences and more than 100 years of Yi-style houses. The architectural style mainly includes “three rooms with two side wings and a gate” and “sliding three-room” structures, with exteriors painted with Yi cultural motifs.
Shimen Village preserves rich Yi ethnic customs. One unique cultural activity is the Straw Dragon Dance (草龙舞). Originating from the Sui and Tang dynasties and flourishing during the Ming and Qing periods, this dance expresses reverence for dragons and prayers for peace and blessings. The village also promotes and preserves this tradition through events such as “Exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage and Watching the Straw Dragon Performance.”
