Tonghongdian Township (通红甸乡) has a long history. During the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Beile Township (备乐乡) of Ningzhou (宁州), and in the Republic of China period, it was part of the Fifth District, Linjiang Town (临江镇). In April 1949, the New West District (新西区) was established here, and in 1988, Tonghongdian Yi and Miao Ethnic Township was officially founded. It is also the birthplace of the first people’s government in Huaning County, making it a site of significant revolutionary history.
Tonghongdian Township is home to a diverse population including Yi (彝族), Miao (苗族), and Han (汉族) ethnic groups, with the Yi and Miao making up the majority. The “Huashan Festival” (花山节) is a key traditional celebration of the Miao people. It borders Qianwei Town (前卫镇) to the east, Jiuxi Town (九溪镇) to the south, Xiaoshiqiao Township (小石桥乡) in Hongta District (红塔区) to the west, and Jiangcheng Town (江城镇) to the north. The total area of the township is 95.6 square kilometers.
A’nahua Yi Ethnic Township (安化彝族乡) has a long and rich history. The Yi people are indigenous to the southwest region of China, with roots tracing back to ancient times. According to historical records, during the Han Dynasty, the Qiang people evolved into the Dianbo (滇僰), which then further split into the Eastern Cuan Wuman (东爨乌蛮) and Western Cuan Baiman (西爨白蛮). It was not until the Yuan Dynasty that the Yi ethnic group began to take form from the Eastern Cuan Wuman. During the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, many Yi people migrated from surrounding areas to settle in A’nahua. The name A’nahua (安化) comes from the surnames An (安) and Hua (花), the first settlers during the early Ming period. The township government is based in A’nahua Village (安化村).

Alternatively, public transportation is available—visitors can take a coach or shuttle bus from downtown Jiangchuan to A’nahua, with a travel time of approximately 1 hour.
The local cuisine features traditional Yi dishes, such as Yi Family Wine (彝家酒) and roasted suckling pig (烤乳猪). You can also try local agricultural products like flue-cured tobacco, wheat, and corn, which are staples in the area.
