2. Location
Longyang district is located in the west of Yunnan province, the southern section of the Hengduan mountains, crossing east longitude 98 ° 43 '~ 99 ° 26' and north latitude 24 °46 '~ 25 ° 38'. It lies in the tail of Nujiang mountains and the Gaoligong mountains, between Lancang river and Nujiang river, adjacent to the Yongping County of Dali and Changning County of Baoshan in the east, Shidian County & Longling County in the south, Tengchong city in the west, Lushui city of Nujiang and Yunlong county of Dali in the north. It is 486 km from provincial capital of Kunming, and 279 km from the Sino-Burmese border.

By 2014, Longyang district has jurisdiction over 2 subdistricts(Yongchang永昌, Lancheng兰城), 6 towns(Banqiao Town(板桥镇), Hetu Town(河图镇), Hanzhuang Town(汉庄镇), Pupiao Town(蒲缥镇), Wayao Town(瓦窑镇), Lujiang Town(潞江镇)), 6 townships(Jinji Township(金鸡乡), Xinjie Township(辛街乡), Xiyi Township(西邑乡), Binma Township(丙麻乡), Wadu Township(瓦渡乡), Shuizhai Township(水寨乡)) and 4 ethnic townships(Wama Yi and Bai Ethnic Township(瓦马彝族白族乡), Wafang Yi and Miao Ethnic Township(瓦房彝族苗族乡),Yangliu Bai and Yi Ethnic Township( 杨柳白族彝族乡), Mangkuan Yi and Dai Ethnic Township(芒宽彝族傣族乡)).

In 2010, the minority population in Longyang district are 130265, accounting for 13.92% of the whole, including Yi(4.52%), Bai(4.32%), Dai(2.15%), Lisu(1.36%), Miao(0.49%), Hui(0.37%), Man(0.15%), Deang(0.11%).

8. How to Get to Longyang
Longyang can be accessible by air and long-distance bus. Baoshan Yunrui Airport has flights flying to and from Kunming, Chengdu, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Changsha, Xian, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Beijing, Guiyang, etc.
There are two Passenger Transport Bus Stations in Longyang, which are the South Passenger Transport Bus Station and the North Passenger Transport Bus Station. Tourists can take bus to Baoshan from Gongshan, Ruili, Tengchong, Lijiang, Kunming, etc.
9. History
At least 3,000 years ago, Dai ancestors established a tribal state called "Mengzhang" in the Baoshan basin (Longyang basin). Sima Qian, a historian of the western Han dynasty, wrote about Mengzhang in his historical records, which he called Chengxiangguo(乘象国).
