Geographic Location
Heizhiguo Township (黑支果乡) is located in the southeastern part of Guangnan County (广南县), Wenshan Prefecture (文山州), Yunnan Province (云南省), 102 kilometers from the county seat of Guangnan (广南). It borders Nanping Town (南屏镇) to the east, Xinzhai (新寨) and Majie Township (马街乡) of Malipo County (麻栗坡县) and Muyang Township (木央乡) of Funing County (富宁县) to the south, Zhuangjiao Township (篆角乡) to the west, and Shuguang Township (曙光乡) to the north. The township covers an area of 482 square kilometers, with higher terrain in the northwest and lower in the southeast. The average elevation is 1,500 meters, the annual average temperature is 16.1°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1,113 millimeters.
Cultural History
Heizhiguo Township (黑支果乡) has a long history. In the fifth year of the Daoguang reign (1825), the area was established as Azhang Camp (阿章营). During the Republic of China period, it successively belonged to the Great Southern District and the Third District. In November 1949, it was renamed Nanping District (南屏区). In 1951, it merged with Majie District (马街区) to form the Fourth District. In 1958, Heizhiguo Commune (黑支果公社) was established. In 1984, it became a district office, and in 1988, it was renamed Heizhiguo Township (黑支果乡).
Folk Culture
Heizhiguo Township (黑支果乡) is home to seven ethnic groups: Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Yi, Mongol, and Gelao. The local folk culture is rich and diverse, with ethnic minorities accounting for 44% of the township’s total population. The Zhuang people’s “March 3rd Flower Street Festival” is a celebration for young Zhuang people to freely court. Other traditional art forms include Nongyawai (弄娅歪) performances, paper horse dances, and handkerchief dances.
