Lianhuatang Township (莲花塘乡) is located in the western part of Xichou County (西畴县), Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Xingjie Town (兴街镇) to the east, Xinmajie Township (新马街乡) to the southeast, Maguan County (马关县) across the Panlong River (盘龙河) to the southwest, Wenshan City (文山市) to the west, Yanshan County (砚山县) to the northwest, and Banggu Township (蚌谷乡) to the northeast. The township government is located in Lianhuatang Village (莲花塘村), about 43 kilometers from the county seat, with a total area of approximately 165.52 square kilometers.
The name "Lianhuatang" (莲花塘) comes from the local terrain, which resembles a lotus flower. In 1927, during the 16th year of the Republic of China, it was established as Xibanbao (锡板保) under Zhouyang District (畴阳区). In 1941, it was renamed Xirui Township (锡瑞乡). In 1958, it became Lianhuatang Commune (莲花塘公社), then Lianhuatang District (莲花塘区) in 1983, and officially became Lianhuatang Township (莲花塘乡) in 1987.
Lianhuatang Township (莲花塘乡) is a multi-ethnic community primarily inhabited by Han, Zhuang, Miao, and Yi ethnic groups. It boasts vibrant cultural traditions, including the Yi Torch Festival (彝族火把节) and the Zhuang "San Yue San" Festival (壮族三月三). Traditional performing arts such as the Yi Hulusheng Dance (彝族葫芦笙舞) and Zhuang Fish Drum (壮族渔鼓) are also well preserved.
