Xiaxilianhua Mosque in Weishan County, Dali

Xiaxilianhua Mosque (下西莲花清真寺) is located in Xiaxilianhua Village (下西莲花), Yongjian Township (永建乡), Weishan County (巍山县), Yunnan Province (云南省). The mosque’s original construction date is unknown. Over the years, it has been damaged and rebuilt several times. It was destroyed in the 11th year of the Tongzhi reign (1872), rebuilt in 1925, and expanded in 1990.

The current mosque is built in a single-eaved hip-and-gable style, covering a building area of 320 square meters. The total site area is about 4 mu (亩), with a total building area of 1,088 square meters.

Historical Background

The mosque’s founding date is uncertain. It was destroyed in 1872 (Tongzhi Year 11 of the Qing Dynasty), reconstructed in 1925, and later expanded in 1990.

The mosque is designed in a single-eaved hip-and-gable style, with a building area of 320 square meters. There are multiple wooden side buildings used as classrooms and dormitories for the imams (阿訇) and religious students (满拉). The entire site spans approximately 4 mu, with a total building area of 1,088 square meters.

Religious Community and Education

Xiaxilianhua Mosque serves a Hui Muslim community of 40 households, totaling 240 people, all of whom follow the Gedimu (格迪目) tradition. The mosque has 7 imams, 1 Arabic language school, and 13 students (满拉) receiving religious education.
