Maodichong Mosque in Yanshan County, Wenshan

Maodichong Mosque (茂地冲清真寺) is located in A’meng Town (阿猛镇), Yanshan County (砚山县), Yunnan Province (云南省). Originally built during the Qing Dynasty (清代), the mosque covers an area of 2.2 mu. The main prayer hall has a floor area of 480 square meters, and the total construction area of the mosque is 1,000 square meters. The mosque houses two copies of the Quran.

Historical Development

The Hui ethnic community of Maodichong Village (茂地冲村) has a history of over 400 years. During the Qing Dynasty (清代), a house-style mosque was established. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, a temporary mosque was set up in a private courtyard. In 1980, the mosque was reconstructed through community fundraising.

The current mosque covers an area of 2.2 mu. The main prayer hall occupies 480 square meters, while the total built-up area of the mosque is 1,000 square meters.

Community and Cooperation

The mosque serves 91 Hui households, totaling 460 individuals. The mosque currently has 7 Ahong (阿旬, imams) and 4 Xuedong (学董, religious instructors). It houses two copies of the Quran and is the home mosque of Haji Ma Wanming (哈吉马万明), who has performed the pilgrimage to Mecca.
