Xinzhai Mosque in Qiubei County, Wenshan

Xinzai Mosque (新寨清真寺) is located in Rizhe Township (日者乡), Qiubei County (丘北县), Yunnan Province (云南省).

History

The mosque was originally built in the 11th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1872). It is one of the oldest surviving Islamic religious structures in Qiubei County (丘北县). According to the 2012 national mosque directory, it ranks among the most prominent of the 16 registered mosques in Qiubei County.

Site Status

As of 2022, Xinzai Mosque (新寨清真寺) was included in the first batch of demonstration religious sites for the Ethnic Unity and Progress Campaign in Wenshan Prefecture (文山州), making it one of three model mosques in Qiubei County (丘北县). The designation was granted by the Leading Group for Creating a National Demonstration Zone for Ethnic Unity and Progress in Wenshan Prefecture.

Religious Administration

The mosque has a well-established religious affairs management system, which includes:

  • A board of 4 Islamic school directors (学董) responsible for daily operations
  • 28 full-time Ahong (阿訇), including 8 female religious personnel
  • 50 Mullahs (满拉) who are permanently based at the mosque to study Islamic scriptures

Scripture Collection

The mosque preserves 4 handwritten Arabic Qur’ans (《古兰经》), believed to have been brought from West Asia during the mosque’s early years. These scriptures are traditionally bound in leather covers.

Regional Role

Xinzai Mosque (新寨清真寺) is located in the central Muslim residential area of Rizhe Township (日者乡). Along with Zhiqiu Factory Mosque (制球厂清真寺), Jiucheng Mosque (旧城清真寺), and others, it forms part of a local network of Islamic religious sites. Rizhe Township currently has 16 registered Islamic venues, including He Wai Mosque (河外清真寺) and Xincheng Mosque (新城清真寺).
