Tianbao port天保口岸 is an important border trade port between China and Vietnam.
Laoshan Mountain, located at China-Vietnam Border of Yunnan Province in the southwestern China, is closely linked to northern Vietnam. In the past 10 years from 1979 to 1989, there was a fierce battle between China and Vietnam in the vibrant mountains and jungles, which turned Laoshan Mountain to be a place “famous” of violence and death. And as a result of the battle, Laoshan Mountain who witnessed the victory of Chinese and the loss of Vietnam became a holy place in memory of these heroes sacrificed in the battle. More than 20 years have passed, and now the spirits of these heroes are still in the minds of people living here.
The leftover of the war in Laoshan Mountain has been carefully collated and repaired after the war. The place that once saw the violent and cruel battle has turned into a beautiful and peaceful park for the fighters to rest. There are many inscriptions and sculptures describing the glorious feat of the warriors dedicated to the country.
Under the main peak of Laoshan Mountain, there built a small square where stood a huge statue. Its prototype is called Zhangdaquan张大权, one of the 3000 Chinese soldiers who dedicated to the China-Vietnam war in Laoshan Mountain years ago.

Xianrendong Village仙人洞村 is a picturesque fairyland in Qiubei County, Southeast of Yunnan included in Puzhehei Scenic Area. It’s a typical Sani撒尼 village with limpid lakes and lush vegetation. “Puzhehei普者黑” is a word from the Yi language which means “a place abundant in fish and shrimps”. The Sani people there claim themselves “Sanipo撒尼人”. They believe they are the descendants of the Sani People who fled from Stone Forest area to Qiubei丘北 Area 400 years ago. The entire village is made up of 173 families or more than 800 villagers. They are Sani people, a branch of the Yi Minority.
As the first ethnic cultural ecological demonstration village in Yunnan province, Xianrendong Village仙人洞村 is mainly responsible for the protection and development of ethnic culture, the improvement of ethnic quality, the cultivation of ethnic culture pillar industries, the injection of new vitality to the tourism industry, making it a major influence within and outside the province and a base and window for world cultural exchanges.
Xianrendong village is an ancient village, which is back against green mountain. Xianren Lake仙人湖 surrounds the village, green like jade, reflecting beautiful isolated peak and primitive dwelling. Rich fish and shrimps swim in the water, water plants swing with the waves. In midsummer, thousand mu of wild lotus are in blossom, blowing in the wind. In the lakeside, there are ten thousand farmland with dark green waves. This is the true life of Sani People撒尼人. They make living by water, work at sunrise, rest at sunset, plant rice seedlings, fish, catch the shrimps, pick lotus seeds, all at ease.
When visitors enter the Yi culture ecological village, they can enjoy the original and authentic ethnic songs and dances, stone worship culture, ethnic customs, ethnic food, ethnic housing, ethnic sacrifice, ethnic sports, and ethnic handicrafts, etc.
Whoever visitors enter the village, Sani people will always give you a bright smiling face. They will treat you the clean and sweet water and ask whether visitors would like to have a try for their bamboo water pipes. They will also warmly introduce you to their customs their legendary stories. If you are interested enough to hear their music, they can also sing accompanied with their unique three-string instrument. They will sing the popular narrative poem, Escape to the Sweet Spot.
As other minorities do in Yunnan Province, Sani people believe in animism which makes their traditional festivals mysteriously link to gods and the nature. They deem themselves a nationality that was gave birth by trees. That’s probably why a huge sacred tree is enshrined as the Dragon Tree during their annual Mizhi Festival密枝节. The villagers living in Xianrendong Village are simple, honest and unspoiled. Sani people regulate people’s behavior mainly through the ancient religious activities such as Mizhi festival, a sacrifice to the sacred Dragon Tree.
Hualian Festival花脸节, is a traditional festival of Sani People in Puzhehei or Xianrendong Village. It’s extremely popular and preferred by the young people. During the festival, lard and chimney soot are mixed into paste to be smeared by people to make fun.
The Bimo culture毕摩文化 of Yi minority is extensive and profound. Bimo毕摩 is an intellectual of the Yi minority, who has created the Yi minority scripture. The scriptures of Yi people are important tools for the practice of religious activities. Perhaps because of the escape, the Yi people’s scriptures of Xianrendong Village have been lost, and their classics are handed down by chanting from generations to generations. They believed that if there was no scripture, there would be no communication between man and god, and religious activities would not be carried out.
Women in Xianrendong Village love to wear ethnic costumes. They are able to spin their own threads, and all of them are good at needlework. Their clothes are not the same as those Sani families in Shilin area. The “high mountain and flowing water” picture on their headdress seems like the beautiful and colorful butterfly. The women here have to change their beautifully embroidered flower sashes seven times in their lifetime. There is a bright red embroidered ball hanging on the belt, which is really brilliant.
Sani people撒尼人 can sing and dance well. At the tourist season, the villagers will be divided into four teams to perform excellent show for the visitors every night. They dance enthusiastically, in addition to the three-stringed dance we know, there are a lot of folk dances.
The best time to visit Xianrendong Village is from May to October, and especially in July and August. May to October is on season. At that time, the lotus flowers are in full blossom. And the local “Painted Face Festival(Hualian Festival)”, the local busiest and happiest festival, usually celebrates around July 18, lasting for about one month.
Xiangrendong Village is in Puzhehei Scenic Area, therefore, for transportation and accommodation, you can refer to Puzhehei Scenic Area.
1. Learn something about Sani people and Yi Minority in advance.
2. After arriving at Puzhehei Scenic Area, there are battery cars, bicycles, sightseeing carriage and boats you can choose to the place you want.

Zhiziluo was the government seat of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture before 1974. In history, Zhiziluo was a pivot along the Nujiang River and an important courier station on the Tea and Horse Road which connected Nujiang with central China in the past. Nowadays, it is often called “the city of memory”. It is a place where old architectures are well preserved and maintained which could give you a vintage tour back to the 1980s.
Zhiziluo village is under jurisdiction of Pihe Nu Township(匹河怒族乡) of Fugong County of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, which is located in the east of Pihe township, adjacent to Lanping Bai Pumi Autonomous County(兰坪白族普米族自治县) in the east, Puluo village(普洛村) in the south, Jiajiu village(架究村) in the west and Shava village(沙瓦村) in the north, 44 kilometers away from Fugong county.
Zhiziluo, means “a good place” in Lisu language. More than one thousand years ago, the descendants of one Wuman Tribe of Diqiang, crossed the Biluo snow mountain from the Lancang river and reached the “Zhiziluo” for settlement. In the past, it only took about 1 day from ancient Nanzhao Kingdom(Dali) to Gaoligong Mountain via Zhiziluo and Biluo Snow Mountain, then Zhiziluo became an important post and market on the ancient tea horse road.
Due to its special location, it was once the core city of the Nujiang basin. The seat of Nujiang prefecture and Bijiang county were located here, becoming the most prosperous political and economic center of nujiang state. On December 25, 1986, the Bijiang county, with a newly built building on a hillside was abruptly abandoned because it had been analysed by experts from the geology department that extensive landslides were possible in this area. So the name “Bijiang county” disappeared from the map of China forever.
Zhiziluo is a small village located in northwest Yunnan’s Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. What makes Zhiziluo unique is its old-fashioned look which arouses people’s nostalgic feelings. The octagonal library is a must-see attraction in Zhiziluo. Today it sits unused, its doors propped open so random tourists can climb the stairs to reach its wrap-around balconies. The slogans in the 1980s and the images of Chairman Mao are still posted on the walls in the library, just like what old movies show.
Much of the local populace are of the Lisu and Nu minorities and many of them practice Christianity. An old church is one of the few non-residential buildings put to use on a regular basis and is still a place of worship for those left in the village. In recent years, especially after the film “Zhiziluo” hit the screen, more and more tourists are attracted by its well-protected architectures. It is reported that there is a high-end tourism project under construction in Zhiziluo now.
There is no direct long-distance bus to Zhiziluo from Kunming and Dali. Tourists can only transfer to at Liuku. There is direct night bus from Kunming to Fugong. For the last leg of the journey you will need to arrange a ride in a minibus from one of the Liuku locals. Bargain hard, this should be very inexpensive. Keep in mind the final push from Liuku to Zhiziluo is another 108 kilometers and depending on road and weather conditions, can easily take four or more hours.
There are several agritainments which can provide accommodation for tourists.
▪ Do take a camera. The scenery is extremely beautiful there
▪ Respect the customs of ethnic minorities and avoid disturbing the lives of local people.
▪ Grab your rain gear. There’s a lot of rain during the rainy season from May to August.

It is found that the distribution of dinosaur fossils extended for 10 sq.km (6. 2 sq.miles), with Lufeng being at the center. It is believed that dinosaurs found here are the best vertebrate fossils that are the most primitive, the oldest, with the most varieties and in their most complete form. China’s first assembled dinosaur for study purposes was unearthed in Lufeng, and it has been dated to have more than 180 million years.
There are some kinds of unearthed dinosaur fossils, which are displayed in the Lufeng World Dinosaur Museum. At the end of 2008, the newly constructed Jurassic Park was finished, adding a more scientific and trendy atmosphere to the ancient dusty place.
At the north side of Lufeng County, about 9 km (5.6 miles), away is the site where the fossil, one of China’s most ancient homo sapiens, was discovered. In May 1975, archaeologists found a tooth fossil in a pile of coal deposits. After that, more than 700 pieces of bone fossils were excavated. They were named Lama Ancient Homo Sapiens by archaeologists and anthropologists, believing that they lived about eight million years ago. In January 1988 the site of the coal deposit, where the first tooth fossil was found, was designated as a national key protection area, and the surrounding area of 20 acres (1.4 hectares) was walled. Within the protected area, an ancient ape statue monument was erected to mark this important archaeological discovery.
It is appropriate to visit Lufeng World Dinosaur at any time.

Feilaisi Temple
Feilaisi Temple is located at the hillside. Because of the steep mountain, looking from the bottom of the mountain, the whole temple is like a big bird entwined in the mountain. It seems to be flying and it also seems to have just landed from the sky. Therefore, Feilaisi Temple got its name. Looking down from the temple, the Longchuanjiang River(龙川江) passes through the deep canyon, and the town’s buildings are dotted on both sides of the river.
Heijing Confucius Temple
The Heijing Confucian Temple is located in the Longchuanjiang River Gorge(龙川江峡谷), Lufeng County, Chuxiong Prefecture. The Heijing Confucius Temple was built in the 45th year of Ming Wanli (1617). It was repeatedly destroyed by mudslides in the Qing Dynasty and was repeatedly rebuilt. The Confucius Temple is large in scale. There were 13 scholars (进士), which could show the prosperity of Heijing culture education.
Heijing Ancient Town
With traditional folk residences, archways, and religion architectures, Heijing Ancient Town is well conserved in a traditional style as others do in China. Among them, 27 have been listed as county-level cultural relics protection units, and are known as “the treasure house of historical relics – the living fossil of Ming and Qing Dynasties”.

Twenty teachers and students from the Champion School in Denver, Colorado, experienced the art of pressed flowers and tea ceremony on June 6 in the Yunnan-Taiwan Engineering Research Center for Characteristic Agriculture Industrialization (YNAU) in Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming.
“We attended flower-related workshop in the United States. Those flowers might come from Yunnan,” said the American teachers and students, who felt familiar with the flowers in the YNAU.
The Americans showed their curiosity seeing four tea specialists dressed in Chinese clothes sitting gracefully at the tea table and performing traditional Chinese tea ceremony. “Their clothes were special!” “What tea do they prepare?” After tasting Pu’er tea, the students asked questions about the tea and experienced the tea art.
The staff of YNAU introduced that Yunnan is famous for its flowers and tea. Yunnan Agricultural University has played an important role in supporting the development of flower and tea industries, and organized many exchange activities to promote traditional Chinese culture and its charm to global friends.
