Longhua Village (龙华村) is located in Sihua Village Committee (四华村委会), Shitou Bai Ethnic Township (石头白族乡), Yulong Naxi Autonomous County (玉龙纳西族自治县), Lijiang City (丽江市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is a mountainous village with a total area of 2,773 mu and an altitude of 1,820 meters. The average annual temperature is 15°C, and the annual precipitation is 980 mm. The village is suitable for growing crops such as rice, wheat, tobacco, and garlic.
In 2006, the total rural economic income of Longhua Village was 1.2041 million yuan, including 585,500 yuan from planting, 206,500 yuan from animal husbandry, 3,600 yuan from fishery, 19,200 yuan from forestry, 56,900 yuan from secondary and tertiary industries, and 80,800 yuan from wage income. The per capita net income of farmers was 2,135.3 yuan, with planting being the primary source of income.
Longhua Village is approximately 3.5 kilometers from the Shitou Township Government (石头乡政府) and about 12.5 kilometers from Yulong County (玉龙县). The village is accessible via major roads from Yulong County to Shitou Township and then to Longhua Village.
While Longhua Village itself is not a well-known tourist destination, the surrounding areas of Yulong County, such as Shigu Town (石鼓镇) and Liming Township (黎明乡), offer scenic spots worth visiting. Additionally, the Lijiang Tourism Association (丽江市旅游协会) has established a “Rural Revitalization Practice Base” (乡村振兴实践基地) in Sihua Village, promoting the development of rural tourism products that allow visitors to experience the local ethnic culture and rural landscapes.
Longhua Village has 68 households with a rural population of 281, including 135 males and 146 females. The entire population is engaged in agriculture, with 193 laborers. The village is predominantly Naxi (纳西族), with 239 Naxi people, 39 Bai (白族) people, and 3 people from other ethnic groups.

The main challenges facing Longhua Village include difficulties in accessing drinking water for both humans and livestock, as well as the need to improve irrigation infrastructure. In the future, the village will continue to develop its characteristic industries such as orchids, sericulture, and tobacco to increase villagers’ income. Additionally, through a technical service system involving “experts + agricultural technicians + rural technical talents,” the village will support local orchid exhibitions and guide villagers in developing courtyard economies.

Lashi Lake (拉市海) is not far from Meizi Village and is one of the core attractions of Lijiang tourism. With its advantageous geographical location on the ancient Tea Horse Road (茶马古道), it was once a must-pass route for caravan trade. At Lashi Lake, visitors can experience horseback riding along the ancient road and feel the hardship and grandeur of the old caravan trade. Currently popular horseback riding routes include:
Tama Xunhua Route (踏马寻花线路): A ride around a sea of flowers offering a broad view of the floral expanse, taking approximately 40 minutes, and very popular among female riders.
Zhi Ma Yuntu Route (指马云途线路): A horseback pilgrimage route to Zhi Yun Temple (指云寺) with free incense burning and prayer, usually taking about 2 hours, and well-liked by visitors.
Lao Ma Shitu Route (老马识途线路): The longest and most time-consuming route, reaching the Shangri-La Viewing Platform (香格里观景台) near Shangri-La, taking 6 hours in total and more suitable for avid trekkers.
In addition, boating on Lashi Lake is a must-try activity. Glide on the lake, admire the reflections of the snow-capped mountains, and watch migratory birds play. Boating prices and durations are as follows:
Kayak: 20 CNY, unlimited time.
Tin Boat: 30 CNY, 30 minutes.
Bamboo Raft: 50 CNY, 50 minutes.
At Lashi Lake, there is a 500-mu flower sea, one of the largest in Lijiang and even in Yunnan Province. Flowers bloom in every season, with each season offering different floral displays to create a visual feast:
Spring: Colorful tulips bloom in profusion.
Summer: A vast, romantic lavender field stretches out endlessly.
Autumn: Golden sunflowers smile towards the sun.
Winter: Camellias bloom defiantly against the snow.
No matter when you visit, the beauty of this flower sea will leave you spellbound.
Every winter, Lashi Lake becomes a “bird paradise,” attracting tens of thousands of migratory birds each year, with up to 57 species, including 9 rare and endangered species. These include the Baotou Goose (斑头雁) unique to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, as well as nationally protected species like the Chinese Merganser (中华秋沙鸭), Black-necked Crane (黑颈鹤), and Black Crane (黑鹤). Visitors can go to Lashi Lake Wetland Park (拉市海湿地公园) and Lashi Lake Sunshine Coast Natural Scenic Area (拉市海阳光海岸自然风景区) to observe these birds. The Sunshine Coast Natural Scenic Area, located on the southern side of Lashi Lake, with its abundant aquatic vegetation and plentiful fish and shrimp, is one of the best spots for bird feeding and photography. The southern area of Lashi Lake, with its vast lawns, is the best habitat for birds and an excellent location for bird watching.
Zhi Yun Temple (指云寺) is the only ecologically developed temple in Lijiang that has not been commercially developed, and the only temple that operates as a school. It is also an essential stop on the Tea Horse Road. In the past, caravans would stop here to pray for the safety and smooth journey of their families. The temple’s architecture is simple and elegant, and its serene environment, with solemn Buddha statues and fluttering prayer flags, creates a profound religious atmosphere. Visitors can feel the deep spiritual aura, listen to the chanting of sutras, and find a moment of tranquility for the soul.

The main ethnic group in Xiahe Village (夏禾村) is the Naxi people (纳西族), who have preserved rich traditional crafts. The traditional Naxi (纳西族) architectural techniques are particularly distinctive and are fully displayed in the village’s residential buildings. The houses are mostly made of wood and earth, combining the “chuandou” (穿斗式) and “jinggan” (井干式) structural methods. Craftsmen pay great attention to the selection and processing of wood, with wooden pillars and beams carved with exquisite patterns such as flowers, birds, fish, insects, and mythological stories. The woodcarving craftsmanship is superb, with smooth lines and vivid shapes. Additionally, Naxi (纳西族) embroidery is also inherited here. Naxi women use colorful silk threads to embroider various patterns on fabrics, which are often used for clothing decorations and household items. The embroidery is bright in color and delicate in technique, embodying the Naxi people’s (纳西族) aspirations for a beautiful life.
Xiashuhe Village (下束河村) is also predominantly inhabited by the Naxi people (纳西族). Dongba papermaking (东巴造纸) is a highly representative traditional craft in the village. The paper is made from the local Daphne plant (瑞香科丽江荛花), which undergoes a complex process including collection, drying, soaking, boiling, washing, pounding, paper casting, pasting, and drying. Dongba paper (东巴纸) is strong, insect-resistant, and an important carrier of Dongba culture (东巴文化), often used for writing Dongba scriptures (东巴经文) and painting Dongba art (东巴绘画). Naxi (纳西族) woodcarving is also prevalent here, used not only for architectural decoration but also for making various woodcarving crafts such as ornaments and pendants. The carving style is both rough and delicate, with a strong ethnic flavor.
The traditional customs of the Naxi people (纳西族) are well preserved in Xiahe Village (夏禾村). In daily etiquette, there is a strong atmosphere of respecting the elderly and caring for the young, with strict norms for how juniors should greet their elders. In terms of dietary customs, in addition to the previously mentioned Naxi Baba (纳西粑粑) and Shuimen Baba (水焖粑粑), villagers also prepare traditional dishes during major festivals, such as “Sandieshui” (三叠水), a high-standard banquet for entertaining distinguished guests. The banquet is named for its use of large bowls, small bowls, and plates arranged in three layers, offering a rich variety of dishes including meat, vegetables, and pastries, reflecting the Naxi people’s (纳西族) hospitality.
An important festival is the Sanduo Festival (三朵节), held on the eighth day of the second lunar month. Villagers dress in traditional attire and visit the nearby Sanduo Temple (三朵庙) to worship the Naxi (纳西族) protector god “Sanduo” (三朵). The ceremony is solemn, with offerings made to pray for good weather, abundant harvests, and prosperity. After the ceremony, the entire village gathers for grand singing and dancing activities, performing traditional Naxi (纳西族) dances such as “Alili” (阿哩哩) and “Datiao” (打跳), creating a lively atmosphere.
In terms of customs, the Naxi (纳西族) hearth culture is particularly prominent in Xiashuhe Village (下束河村). The hearth is the core of a Naxi (纳西族) family, used not only for heating and cooking but also as an important place for family gatherings and emotional exchanges. Important family discussions and guest receptions are conducted around the hearth.
Festivals are rich and varied. In addition to the Sanduo Festival (三朵节), the Torch Festival (火把节) is also significant. On the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, every household erects tall torches made of pine and dry wood, adorned with colorful flags. At night, the torches are lit, and the villagers parade around the large torch with small torches in hand, chanting blessings. This is followed by a grand bonfire party, with people singing and dancing around the fire, creating a spectacular scene.
Xiahe Village (夏禾村) retains typical traditional Naxi (纳西族) residential architecture. The layout of the houses is mostly “three rooms and a screen wall” (三坊一照壁) or “four sides and five courtyards” (四合五天井). “Three rooms and a screen wall” refers to a courtyard enclosed by a main house, left and right wing rooms, and a screen wall. The screen wall is usually made of brick and stone, painted with exquisite patterns such as landscapes and flowers, serving both aesthetic and functional purposes like wind protection and lighting. The main house is tall and spacious, generally facing south, and is the center of family activities. The wing rooms are used for living or storage. “Four sides and five courtyards” consists of four houses enclosing a large central courtyard and four small courtyards, showcasing the Naxi people’s (纳西族) architectural wisdom with its rigorous structure and rational spatial layout.

The residential buildings around the Longtan (龙潭) are mostly built by the water, creating a unique waterside scenery.
Ancient inns on the Tea Horse Road (茶马古道): As an important node on the Tea Horse Road (茶马古道), Xiashuhe Village (下束河村) has preserved some ancient inn ruins.
