Chinese Name: 小白龙森林公园
English Name: Kunming Xiaobailong Forest Park
Location: 10 kilometers southwest of Yiliang County Town
The park features the natural scenery of forests as its main attraction, covering over 40,000 acres of evergreen forest. Following the principles of reflecting ethnic characteristics, forest features, and local characteristics, replicas of traditional dwellings from the 56 ethnic groups of China are built within the forest area, designed innovatively and aesthetically. Being surrounded by vast seas of trees provides a sense of returning to nature. Additionally, facilities such as a dance hall, tennis courts, swimming pool, hunting ground, dining area, and sanatorium have been constructed, making it an excellent destination for group spring outings or summer camps.
Xiaobaizhong Forest Park is located 10 kilometers west of Yiliang County Town in Yunnan Province and over 40 kilometers from Kunming. It is a newly emerging large-scale comprehensive forest scenic area.
Xiaobaizhong Forest Park is the largest comprehensive forest scenic area closest to the provincial capital in Yunnan Province. Located 10 kilometers southwest of Yiliang County, it is more than 40 kilometers east of Kunming and is adjacent to the provincial level Yangzonghai Tourism Resort area, featuring beautiful landscapes that complement each other. It is the largest forest area in the suburbs of Kunming, covering 624.8 hectares. Over 600 villas have been built in the forest, making it an ideal choice for summer vacation, leisure, and relaxation. Being here refreshes the mind and spirit, allowing one to fully appreciate the beauty of nature. If Yangzonghai is a dazzling pearl of the plateau, then Xiaobaizhong is a large and beautiful green emerald.
On May 1, 1999, it was approved as a national forest park by document No. 141 from the National Forestry Bureau. A local poet, Zheng Zurong, wrote:
“Seeking wild fun on distant peaks,
With evergreen trees, the Xiaobaizhong shines.
Autumn gathers mushrooms in delight,
Summer cools off with ease and comfort.
Deep in the mountains, childhood dreams linger,
In tranquil lands, elder winds are kind.
The new retreat for Zen meditation,
Not caring if foxes and rats disrupt the fairy trail.”
Xiaobaizhong Forest Park primarily features the natural beauty of forests, boasting over 40,000 acres of evergreen forests. It is the largest forest green space near Kunming. The dominant tree species include Yunnan pine and Huashan pine, alongside cypress, fir, larch, Tibetan cedar, snow cedar, oak, bamboo, camellia, chestnut, wild tea, rhododendron, southern candle, bayberry, pear, maidenhair fern, Yunnan magnolia, moss, and various animal and plant resources such as deer, hares, and birds. The park’s elevation ranges from 1,600 to 2,200 meters, with a relative height difference of 600 meters. It belongs to the low latitude plateau of central Yunnan, characterized by a north subtropical climate with little temperature variation between winter and summer, resembling spring in all four seasons. Thus, the timely development of Xiaobaizhong provides the people of Spring City with a new realm for summer relaxation, leisure, and vacation. Surrounded by vast seas of trees, visitors can gaze at the clouds, admire mountain flowers, enjoy the vibrant scenery, listen to the sounds of the pines and birds, pick bayberries, collect mushrooms, drink spring water, and relax on green moss, bringing joy and clarity of mind while fully experiencing and enjoying the beauty and wildness of nature. In addition to tourism, sightseeing, and wellness facilities, the park also features a Yiliang television transmission tower, a rehabilitation hospital, “sports gardens,” and “conference centers.” It offers the best venues for meetings, group spring outings, picnics, and summer camps, and serves as a natural classroom for scientific research activities in biology, ecology, plant community studies, and forest science.
Xiaobaizhong Forest Park has now reached a total investment scale of over ten million yuan, attracting more than 30 domestic and foreign investors for development. While effectively preserving the natural ecological landscape, over 200 villas have been constructed within the forest, along with a ballroom, swimming pool, tennis courts for rehabilitation, observation tower, restaurant, shops, and parking lots, providing a series of supportive tourism, entertainment, and communication facilities.

Location: Next to the Western Dianchi Cable Car Station at Haigeng Park, Xishan District, Kunming City
Openning Time: Open Year-Round
Dianchi Longwang Temple was built at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, making it around 300 years old. It is located in the western part of Haigeng Park in the Dianchi Lake tourist resort area in Kunming, facing the famous Xishan Longmen across the lake. The Longwang Temple was once an important site for fishermen and indigenous residents around Dianchi Lake to pray for wind and rain, wishing for plentiful harvests and national peace. Inside the temple, deities such as the Central Lord Huanglong Wang, Liuwang (the son-in-law of the Dragon King), Dragon Princess, Wanjian God, Maritime General, and both Civil and Military Wealth Gods, along with Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals, were once worshipped.
Throughout the vicissitudes of history, Longwang Temple has undergone several destructions and restorations. In 2009, Kunming City decided to restore this historical and cultural site. After extensive research, analysis, and relevant discussions, it was ultimately determined to rebuild Longwang Temple at its original site in accordance with the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The restored Dianchi Longwang Temple covers an area of 1,888.07 square meters, with a building area of 740 square meters, including the mountain gate, main hall, and left and right wings, totaling 23 rooms. The temple still houses Taoist statues of the Dragon King, his son and daughter, Cihang Zhenren, and Guansheng, and strictly follows Taoist rituals to conduct religious activities.
The Temple of Dragon King in Kunming is renowned for its traditional Chinese architectural style, featuring ornate wooden carvings, upturned eaves, and intricate roof decorations. It is significant as a key site for local religious practices and as a symbol of Kunming’s cultural heritage, representing the fusion of Daoist and local folk beliefs. The rushing waters are thrilling, so it is called the Fright of the Soul (Jinghun) Gorge. The stunned gorge dome has a cave-shaped shape and looks particularly powerful. The Jinghun Gorge is composed of a three-dimensional landscape. Not only can you see the canyon green trees, you can touch the cliff rocks, but you can also hear the rushing sound of the canyon with your ears.
Jinghun Gorge is a canyon in the White Elephant Cave and an underground canyon. The gorge is nearly 100 meters high, and the narrowest part is only three or four meters wide. The gorge is nearly 100 meters high and only three or four meters wide at the narrowest point. It is the deepest underground Canyon found in China. The cliffs on both sides of the Strait are shattered and the stream springs at the bottom of the Gorge are magnificent. The secluded streaming spring looks weak and boneless, but it is so great that it cuts through the cliff wall which was formed 600 million years ago like iron and steel because of years of erosion. Jinghun Gorge can be traveled by a trestle road, walking in the canyon, making people worry that the canyon will close at any time. When you look back at the deep canyon, the sky is held in a thin sheet. At the end of the canyon, it is an ancient two-layer stalactite karst cave penetrated by the ancient river.

This collection helps to deepen understanding and appreciation of the development of municipal water systems for future generations.
Kunming Cuihu Park is located in the northern part of Kunming city, beneath Luofeng Mountain, directly across from the main gate of Yunnan University (the picture below shows the right side of Qinglai Hall in Yunnan University’s East Lu Campus). It is one of the most beautiful parks in the city. Although the park is not large, it is very distinctive. It was originally a bay in Dianchi Lake, but later became a clear lake due to a decrease in water level. Since the Ming Dynasty, various Yunnan administrative officials have built pavilions and buildings here. Due to the prominent features of the drooping willows and clear water, it was officially named Cuihu (Emerald Lake) at the beginning of this century. It is famous for “Emerald Embankment in Spring Dawn” and is often referred to as a “green gem embedded in Kunming city.”The park is divided into five scenic areas by two embankments: the north-south Yuan Embankment (constructed in 1834 with funding from Governor Yuan Yuan of Yunnan-Guizhou) and the east-west Tang Embankment (constructed in 1919 with funding from Tang Jiyao, the General Commander of the Nationalist Army of Yunnan, Sichuan, and Guizhou under Sun Yat-sen).
The Yunnan Army Military Academy Site is located in the Cuihu West Chenghuapu area of Kunming City. Founded in 1909, it held a total of 19 sessions until 1928, with over 4,000 graduates. Each session lasted from a year and a half to two years and was divided into four branches: infantry, cavalry, artillery, and engineering. Among the graduates were some who later became outstanding revolutionary leaders, such as Zhu De and Ye Jianying. The 15th session also enrolled returning overseas Chinese and international students from countries such as Korea and Vietnam. Most of the instructors had studied at military academies in Japan, making it one of the earliest schools to train new-style army officers in China.
The main building of the Yunnan Army Military Academy Site is a two-story brick-and-wood structure in a horse-walk corner tower style, with the east, south, west, and north wings symmetrically connected, forming a square courtyard that covers an area of approximately 14,400 square meters. The east and west wings are each about 119 meters long and 10 meters wide; the south and north wings are each about 116 meters long and 7 meters wide, with all wings approximately 12 meters high. The review hall in the center of the south wing is about 115 meters tall and 13 meters wide, presenting an impressive scale.
Taiping Temple (太平寺) is located at No. 13, Helen International, Jinyuan Avenue, Guandu District (官渡区), Kunming (昆明), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is approximately 2 kilometers from Guandu Walking Street (官渡步行街), Guandu King Kong Pagoda (官渡金刚塔), Kunming Zhuangyuan Street (昆明状元街), Guandu Ancient Town (官渡古镇), and Wanghailou (望海楼). The temple is also about 1.5 kilometers from Erji Road Metro Station (珥季路地铁站), Xiaodong Village Metro Station (晓东村地铁站), and Changhong West Road Metro Station (昌宏西路地铁站).
Taiping Temple is a Taoist (道教) architectural site that serves as a venue for the dissemination of Taoist culture throughout history. The temple complex consists of a main hall, side halls, and a pagoda within the grounds.
Visitors can reach Taiping Temple easily by taking the Z67, 173, 174, or 232 bus routes to Taiping Temple Station (太平寺站).
