Babu Township (八布乡) is located in the central part of Malipo County (麻栗坡县), Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Yangwan Township (杨万乡) to the east, Xiajinchang Township (下金厂乡) to the south, Pingzhai Township (平寨乡) of Xichou County (西畴县) to the west, and shares a northern border with Guanba County (官坝县) in Vietnam (越南). The township government is located in the Babu Village Committee (八布村委会), about 23 kilometers from the county seat of Malipo County (麻栗坡县).
History and Culture
The history of Babu Township (八布乡) dates back to the late Qing Dynasty. The name originated from a narrow street and a river that could be crossed in eight steps, once called “Babu River” (八步河), later changed to “Babu” (八布). In 1950, it was designated as Longlong District (龙龙区), renamed Babu District (八布区) in 1955 after relocating there, changed to a commune in 1983, and officially became Babu Township (八布乡) in 1988.
