The history of Babu Township (八布乡) dates back to the late Qing Dynasty. The name originated from a narrow street and a river that could be crossed in eight steps, once called "Babu River" (八步河), later changed to "Babu" (八布). In 1950, it was designated as Longlong District (龙龙区), renamed Babu District (八布区) in 1955 after relocating there, changed to a commune in 1983, and officially became Babu Township (八布乡) in 1988.
