Rizhe Mosque in Qiubei County, Wenshan

Rizhe Mosque (日者清真寺) is located in Rizhe Township (日者乡), Qiubei County (丘北县), Yunnan Province (云南省). Also known as Songwuli Mosque (松雾里清真寺).

History

Originally located on Rizhe Street (日者街) before the “Bingchen Incident” during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (清咸丰“丙辰之变”), the mosque was later relocated to the center of Hebian Village (河边村) as a thatched structure. It was rebuilt in 1909 and has remained in place ever since.

Site Area and Architecture

The mosque occupies 2.3 mu. The main prayer hall is a timber-earth structure covering 200 square meters. The total construction area of the mosque is 600 square meters.

Community and Religious Personnel

The mosque serves 378 Hui (回族) households, totaling 1,748 people, all belonging to the Gedimu (格迪目) sect.
It currently has:

  • 11 Atuns (阿图)
  • 25 Mullahs (满拉)
  • 5 Islamic school directors (学董)

Scripture Collection

The mosque houses:

  • 1 copy of the Qur’an (《古兰经》)
  • 1 handwritten 18th-century annotated Qur’an (《古兰经简注》)

Historical Inscriptions

The mosque preserves several historical plaques:

  • “Master of the Universe” (主宰宇宙), gifted in 1944 (民国三十三年) by Lieutenant General Ma Jiwu (马继武)
  • “Adhere to the Mean” (允执厥中), inscribed in 1916 (民国五年) by Major General Ma Wenzhong (马文仲)
  • “Promote Religion and Defend the Nation” (兴教卫国), titled in 1944 by Bai Chongxi (白崇禧)
