Ethnic Culture
Lijiang is home to the Lisu ethnic group (傈僳族), and visitors can immerse themselves in local traditions, including bonfire festivals and tasting regional dishes like lacquered chicken (漆油鸡).
Scenic Features
Danxia Landform Wonders
The park features several stunning natural formations such as the "Turtle Back" rock layers on Qian Gui Mountain (千龟山), the Lover's Pillar (情人柱), and the Five Finger Mountain (五指山). At sunrise, the mountains glow with a golden-red hue, offering breathtaking views.
Unique Experiences

Integration of Nature and Culture
The park blends natural beauty with cultural heritage, with sites like the Shizhaizi Church (石闸子教堂) and traditional Lisu villages (傈僳族村落) harmonizing with the Danxia landscape.
Key Adventure Activities
Via Ferrata Climbing
The highest and most dramatic iron rope climbing experience in the world, with an altitude of 3,100 meters and the largest vertical drop. The route is split into two tracks: a beginner route (1 hour) and a challenging track (2-3 hours). Suitable for individuals aged 7 to 70, it allows climbers to experience the cliff edges without needing professional skills.
The beginner track offers a safer experience, while the advanced route provides more thrills, with stunning views of the Danxia landscape along the way.
Qian Gui Mountain Hiking
A hike to the summit of Qian Gui Mountain offers a chance to see the unique turtle-shaped red sandstone formations. At sunrise, the mountain glows a brilliant golden-red. The third observation platform offers the best panoramic views.
It is recommended to take the cable car to the top for a more convenient ascent (return tickets offer better value). The hiking section takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours, with some steep, rocky paths, so it's advised to wear non-slip shoes.
Danxia Landform Exploration
Explore the various rock formations, such as "Qian Gui Morning Sun" (千龟朝阳), the Lover’s Pillar (情人柱), and Five Finger Mountain (五指山). For the best view of the "Three Sunrises and Sunsets" phenomenon, head to the Liming Village Viewing Platform (黎明村观景台) around the Winter Solstice.
Important Tips
Safety
The Danxia landscape can be rugged and challenging, so it is important to stick to designated paths and avoid stepping on fragile rock layers.
The high-altitude environment results in intense UV radiation, so visitors should bring sunscreen and windproof jackets to protect against both sun exposure and large temperature variations between day and night.
Environmental Protection
The park is home to many rare plants and delicate landforms, so it’s essential to avoid damaging the environment. Always follow the park’s guidelines to help preserve the natural beauty.
Practical Tips
Food options within the park are limited, so it’s advisable to bring your own snacks.
Mobile signal can be weak in some areas, so carry cash in case you need it during your visit.
