Currently, tourists can take direct long-distance bus or flight to Xishuangbanna and then transfer to Mohan Border by bus. Long-distance bus is the main way getting to Mohan.
By Long-distance Bus
Mohan is a small town, so tourists can take the bus travel to Mohan Border with a trip in Mengla County. At Kunming South Bus Station(南部客运站), there are long-distance buses running from Kunming to Mohan Border and Mengla County. If you want to get to Mengla at first, there are many buses which depart from Mengla to Mohan.

By Plane+Bus
There is no direct flight from Kunming to Mohan Border. The nearest airport is Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport(西双版纳嘎洒机场) located in Jinghong City, and tourists can fly to Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport from Kunming Chuangshui Airport(昆明长水机场). Then transfer to Mohan Border.
There is no direct bus heading to Mohan from the airport, so you’ll need to take the bus or taxi to Jinghong Passenger Station and then continue moving to Mohan. Everyday, there are tow buses running to Mohan from Jinghong Passenger Station which depart at 06:50 and 10:40. It cost CNY85.

By Train
At present, the railway from Yuxi to Mohan is under construction and it is expected to be open to traffic by 2021. The main stops from north to south are Yuxi, Yanhe, Eshan, Luoli, Yuanjiang , Mojiang, Ninger, Puer, Mengyang, Xishuangbanna, Ganlanba, Mengla, Mohan. By then, tourists can take the train to Mohan Border.

磨憨 (Mohan) is a small town located on the border between China and Laos. Its name means “wealthy salt well” in the Dai language. The town is surrounded by vibrant forests and streams and is home to warm and hospitable residents.
Overview of Mohan
In terms of size, Mohan is quite small. A walk along the town’s only main road, ASEAN Avenue (东盟大道), can be completed in less than half a day. However, if you look beyond its size, Mohan holds great significance. The Mohan Border (磨憨口岸) connects with the Laos border at the Moding Port (磨丁口岸) and serves as an important national land port for China, facilitating connections to Laos and other Southeast Asian countries. Travelers can depart from Mohan along the Pan-Asian Railway (泛亚铁路) that runs through Laos, Thailand, and all the way to Singapore.
On December 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway (中老铁路), a landmark project in the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (一带一路), commenced operations. As a key node on this “Steel Silk Road,” Mohan is rapidly growing into an important international port city in southern Yunnan (云南).
Bus Ticket Prices from Mengla to Mohan
The bus fare from Mengla Bus Station (勐腊汽车站) to Mohan is 50 yuan, which includes insurance. If you choose a bus without insurance, the fare is 48 yuan. There are two buses that depart for Mohan every day at 8:30 AM and 10:40 AM. If you miss these two buses, you can first take a bus to Mengla and then purchase a ticket from Mengla to Mohan. Additionally, there are many trains available from Mengla to Mohan, so you can choose according to your needs.

By Bus
There is about 2 buses departing from Jinghong Bus Station(景洪客运站) to Mohan. They depart at 6:50a.m. and 10:40a.m. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there. The ticket costs CNY85.

Mile is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, which is located in the southeast of Yunnan Province and the north of Honghe Prefecture. At Shilin West Railway Station, there are five high-speed train running through Mile. It takes about 18 minutes, for CNY 16(Second class seat) – 25.5(First class seat).

At Xiaodongshan Buyuanzhan of Shilin(小东山补员站), tourists can take the bus to Mile City at the cost of CNY 12. There are only a few buses running to Mile, so it’s not recommended.

1. By Long-Distance Coach
Everyday, there will be about 4 coaches departing from Kunming East Coach Terminal（昆明东部汽车客运站） at 09:30, 11:30, 14:30, 18:30, and the ticket price is around 56 CNY. (The journey is about 2.5 hrs)

2. By High-Speed Train
Everyday, there will be about 20 trains departing from Kunming Railway Station（昆明火车站） and Kunming South Railway Station（昆明南火车站） at 07:38, 07:54, 08:08, 09:06, 09:14, 09:44, 10:20, 10:52, 11:21, 12:00, 12:19, 13:06, 13:35, 14:05, 14:43, 15:25, 16:00, 17:10, 17:42, 19:10, 20:00, and the ticket price is around 34 CNY for Second Class, 54.5 CNY for First Class. (The journey is around 35 mins to 50 mins)

How to Get to Mile City from Mengzi City
Midu County(弥渡县), located in the west of Yunnan Plateau, the southeast of Dali Prefecture, connects Dali City in the North. It is 320 kilometers away from Kunming, and 61 kilometers from Xiaguan(下关) Town of Dali City. It is nationwide well-known hometown of lanterns and folk songs.

At present, there are no airport and railway station in Midu County. So you can go to Midu County by long-distance bus.

2. By Chartered Bus or Minibus
In Yunnan, you can see many chartered buses and minibuses outside the scenic spots, railway station, airport and bus station. Because there are a lot of people in these places. Like taxi, chartered bus and minibus are more convenient and flexible than regular bus. Accordingly, you will spend more money. What’s more, taxis mainly run in local areas.
Being around 320 kilometers from Kunming（昆明）, the County of Midu（弥渡县） is located on the western part of Yunnan Plateau, southeastern part of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture（大理白族自治州）. It borders on Xiangyun County（祥云县） and Nanhua County（南华县） on the east, Jingdong County（景东县） and Nanjian County（南涧县） on the south, Weishan County（巍山县） on the west, and Dali City（大理市） on the north. It’s not only one of the origins of Red River(Honghe), but also the major region of the Mid-Stream Economic Belt of Lancangjiang River（澜沧江）. Midu（弥渡） is also famous for its Huadeng Opera and folk songs in China.
