When it comes to Dali City, people think of the Dali Ancient Town, Cangshan Mountain and  Erhai Lake, Nanzhao Folk Island and the three pagodas of Chongsheng Temple. The government seat of Dali City is Xiaguan Town. Lushui City, the county-level city of Yunnan Province, under the jurisdiction of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, is the government seat of Nujiang. It is an important part of Three Parallel Rivers Natural Reserve and Shangri-La ecotourism area. Liuku Town is the government seat of Lushui City. 

How to Get to Lushui City (Liuku) from Dali City (Xiaguan)

With a distance of about 230 kilometers, tourists could go from Dali City to Lushui City mainly by long-distance bus since there are no airport and railway station in Lushui City.

1. By Long-distance Bus

The transportation between Dali City and Lushui City refers to two main bus stations: Dali Express Bus Station and Liuku Bus Terminal. Travelers can take long-distance bus from Xiaguan Town of Dali City to Liuku Town of Lushui City. So far, there are about 15 daily buses departing from Dali City.

2. By Chartered Bus

In Yunnan, you can see many chartered buses and minibuses outside the scenic spots, railway station, airport and bus station. Because there are a lot of people in these places. Like taxi, chartered bus and minibus are more convenient and flexible. Accordingly, you will spend more money.

How to Get to Lushui City (Liuku Town) from Baoshan City (Longyang District)

Lushui City(泸水县), the capital of Nujang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture(怒江傈僳族自治州), is located in west of Yunnan Province(云南省). The transportation center of Lushui county is the Liuku town(六库镇), which is closed to Biluo Snow Mountain(碧罗雪山) in the east, Myanmar in the west, Shangjiang Town and Laowo Town of Lushui County in the south, Daxingdi Town and Luzhang Town in the north. It’s more than 500 km from Kunming to Liuku. Here we introduce you the transportation between Kunming and Lushui city.

How to Get to Lushui City from Kunming?

By Air

At present, there isn’t any airport serving in Nujiang area. It’s said that Nujiang Airport is under construction and will be put into use in October 2019. Now, you can take the flight at Kunming Changshui Airport(昆明长水机场)  from Kunming to Baoshan and then transfer to Liuku by bus. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Kunming to Baoshan by air and three hours from Baoshan to Liuku by bus.

After Baoshan Airport arrival, tourists can take the airport shuttle bus route 1 to Baoshan Passenger Station and transfer to Liuku. There are about 7 buses running to Liuku for CNY 51, which departs at 08:00, 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:00, 14:30, 17:00.

By Long-distance Bus

At Kunming West Bus Station(昆明西部客运站), there are about 6 buses running from Kunming to Liuku, including 3 daily buses and 3 sleeper buses. The daily bus takes about ours and the sleeper bus about ours. The ticket fare ranges from CNY 190-251.

Historical and Cultural Attractions

• Pianma Anti-British Monument (Museum)（片马抗英纪念碑（馆））: Pianma is the only provincial-level open port in Nujiang Prefecture and is located in the hinterland of the western slope of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve. The construction area of the Pianma Anti-British Monument is 950 square meters, and the monument is 20 meters high. The monument body is composed of three swords and three shields, symbolizing the heroic deeds of the Han, Lisu, and Nu ethnic groups in their united resistance against the British. The Pianma Anti-British Museum showcases the historical background, process, and important events of the Pianma people’s anti-British struggle, and it is an important base for patriotic education.
• Hump Route Memorial Hall（驼峰航线纪念馆）: Located in Pianma Town, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is an important section of the “Hump Route” air corridor. The crashed C-53 transport aircraft in the museum has been assembled and restored, presenting the heroic appearance of the aircraft on the Hump Route. At the same time, it displays the historical background, flight routes, related figures, and events of the Hump Route, enabling people to understand the history of this air transportation line that made great contributions to the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression under harsh conditions.
• Liuku Tusi Yamen（六库土司衙门）: Liuku was once an area under the rule of tusi. The Tusi Yamen was the place where the tusi exercised power and lived at that time. Despite the passage of time, some historical buildings and cultural heritages are still preserved. From here, people can understand the local tusi system and historical and cultural inheritance.

Natural Landscape Attractions

• Nujiang Grand Canyon（怒江大峡谷）: It is the longest, most mysterious, most beautiful, dangerous, and primitive and simple Grand Canyon in the East, located in the Three Parallel Rivers area of the Hengduan Mountain Ranges in western Yunnan. The deepest part is in the Bingzhongluo area of Gongshan County, reaching 3,500 meters. The river rushes through the canyon, and the peaks on both sides soar into the clouds, presenting a magnificent scenery. People can also enjoy the unique canyon ecological landscape and ethnic customs.
• Laohutiao (Tiger Leaping) Canyon（老虎跳峡谷）: Located in the Nujiang section of Chenggang Township, Lushui City, the local Lisu people call this canyon “Lamadengpei”. Here, the width of the river surface is about 20 meters. The peaks and mountains on both sides overlap, and strange rocks stand everywhere. The river rushes down from both sides of the huge rocks, with splashing waves, presenting a very spectacular scene. It is known for its steepness and is called the first natural danger of the Nujiang River.
• Tingming Lake（听命湖）: Located in the northeast of Pianma, Lushui County, about 600 meters away from the Fengxue Yakou of Gaoligong Mountain, at an altitude of about 3,540 meters. The lake water is clear and transparent, the water depth is unpredictable, and it is as cold as ice. The surrounding area is densely forested, and wild animals inhabit and wander around. The scenery of the lake area varies with the four seasons, and it is a mysterious alpine lake.
• Yinyang Mountain Waterfalls（阴阳山瀑布）: Located in the Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve, it is composed of two waterfalls. The Yinyang Mountain Waterfall on the shady side is never exposed to sunlight all year round. It meanders down from the peaks at an extremely high place, with a drop of more than 180 meters. The Yangshan Waterfall has a drop of 255 meters and is very spectacular.

Folk Customs and Leisure Attractions

• Liuku Town（六库镇）: It is the seat of the government of Nujiang Prefecture and also the only way to enter Gongshan and Fugong counties. There are two areas here, Jiangxi (the west bank of the Nujiang River) and Jiangdong (the east bank of the Nujiang River). Jiangxi is the new urban area with tall buildings, and Jiangdong is the old urban area full of historical memories. The two areas are connected by bridges. Whenever night falls, the bridges and the banks of the Nujiang River are decorated with gorgeous light belts. Strolling in this city, people can feel the unique ethnic customs and urban atmosphere.
• Denggeng Hot Spring（登埂温泉）: It is the site of the famous Zao Tang Hui (Hot Spring Gathering). It is 12 kilometers away from Liuku, at an altitude of 950 meters. For more than a hundred years, in accordance with the traditional customs, the Lisu people have come here for “spring bathing” from the second to the sixth day of the first lunar month every year. It is also known as the Zao Tang Hui. The hot spring here coexists with the Nujiang River. People can relax in the hot spring and enjoy the surrounding canyon scenery at the same time.
• Xiaoshaba Service Area（小沙坝服务区）: It is a place that serves as both a service area and a 4A-level scenic area. It can be reached by driving north from Liuku for about 20 minutes, and it is also the starting point of the Beautiful Highway. The service area is equipped with a comprehensive service building, a riverside hotel, characteristic ethnic inns, a Nujiang Exhibition Hall, an ecological parking lot, a riverside leisure path, etc., providing tourists with a “one-stop” comprehensive experience of leisure, shopping, entertainment, fitness, and scenery viewing.
• Baihualing Lisu Music Town（百花岭傈僳音乐小镇）: It is the first stop when entering the Nujiang Grand Canyon. The traditional Lisu villages are scattered among the flowers. People can enjoy Lisu music, watch Lisu songs and dances, and feel the strong Lisu cultural atmosphere.

Luquan Yi and Miao autonomous county, located in the north of Kunming, is the largest county in the city. It is rich in tourism resources, among which Jiaozi snow mountain is the most famous. With the development of Luquan County’s economy and supporting facilities, the transportation is becoming more and more convenient. The distance between Luquan and Kunming is about 120 km and the main means of transportation are bus and car-rental. 

How to Get to Luquan County from Kunming?

By Bus

At Kunming South Bus Station(南部客运站), there are about 8 hours heading to Luquan County, for CNY 41. The journey takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes and the departure time is 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:30. Kunming South Bus Station is located at No.7, Shangbo Street of Guandu District(官渡区商博街7号). Tourists can take the bus and subway to Kunming South Bus Station or take a taxi to. Luquan Passengger Bus Station is located in Luda Road of Luquan County.

By Car-rental
