Travel to Shangri-La from Kunming by long distance bus is popular among tourists. Shangri-la, which means “sun and moon in the heart” in Tibetan language, is the city under the jurisdiction of Diqing Tibetan autonomous prefecture and the capital city of Diqing prefecture. Located in the northwest of Yunnan province and the hinterland of Hengduan mountain area on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, Shangri-la is the junction of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet provinces and also the location of the world natural heritage, three parallel rivers scenic area. Shangri-La is the “Eden in dream”. Since it first appeared in British novelist James Hilton’s Lost Horizon in the 1939, it has been associated with the mystique of a place which could not possibly exist here on Earth. There are the lofty and continuous snowy mountains, endless grasslands, steep and grand gorges, azure lakes and the bucolic villages always leaving a deep impression on visitors. 
Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Kunming is also known as the “Spring City”. The city is covered with blossoms and lush vegetation all-year round. Shangri-la lies about 620 km away from Kunming City. Tourists can get to Shangri-la from Kunming very easily by long distance buses.

Kunming – Shangri-La

There are 4 long-distance buses available every day from Kunming to Shangri-La City, the capital of Diqing Prefecture.
Tourists can take the long-distance bus from Kunming West Bus Station (昆明西部客运站) to Shangri-La Bus Station(香格里拉客运站), the journey will take about 9.5 hours.

There are 4 long-distance buses available every day from Shangri-La City to Kunming. Tourists can take the long-distance bus from Shangri-La Bus Station(香格里拉客运站) to Kunming West Bus Station (昆明西部客运站), the journey will take about 10 hours.
