Laoyuhe Wetland Park (捞鱼河湿地公园) is located in Zhonghe Village (中和村), along Huanhu East Road in Kunming (昆明). This wetland park has been renovated to balance ecological functions with scenic beauty. In the past, large-scale lake reclamation projects turned much of Dianchi Lake’s (滇池) wetlands into fish ponds and farmlands, which decreased the lake’s ability to purify itself and led to worsening water quality. In recent years, with the continued progress of Dianchi Lake’s ecological restoration projects, a closed ecological belt has formed. This belt, with an average width of about 200 meters, covers an area of around 33.3 square kilometers, and more than 80% of the region is covered by vegetation. This ecological green barrier along the lakeshore serves to protect the lake, and Laoyuhe Wetland Park is just one of the many wetland parks in this region.
At the entrance of the park, visitors are greeted by rows of dawn redwood trees (水杉), one of the three “living fossils” in China’s plant world. As you move closer to Dianchi Lake, the wetland merges seamlessly with the lake, where the blue sky meets the sparkling waters, creating a breathtaking landscape that draws many visitors to relax and enjoy nature.
Wetlands are often called “the lungs of nature” because they play a critical role in regulating the balance between human activities and the environment. They also serve as a vital ecological buffer zone, preventing pollutants from entering Dianchi Lake. Laoyuhe Wetland Park offers visitors a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, with opportunities to enjoy vibrant flowers, breathe in the fresh air from the green meadows, and get close to Dianchi Lake under the clear blue sky.
The tulips planted in Laoyuhe Wetland Park are imported directly from the Netherlands. There are 11 varieties of tulips, including Virelande (维兰迪), Parade (检阅), Blaze (烈焰), Dynasty (王朝), Pink Giant (巨大粉), Avocado (阿夫可), Big Goose (熊鹅), Cocktail (鸡尾酒), Purple Flag (紫旗), Grand Duke (大王子), and World Love (世界真爱). These tulips come in four distinct colors and are currently in full bloom, with a flowering period of 25 days. The blooming tulips provide visitors with an experience akin to a “Fragrant Journey to Holland.”
Dongdahe Wetland Park (东大河湿地公园) is a picturesque oasis located approximately 50 kilometers from Kunming (昆明). This wetland park is the largest estuarine wetland in Kunming City. At Dongdahe Wetland, species such as egrets (白鹭), wild ducks (野鸭), and frogs (蛙类), which had either disappeared or become rare, have returned to the shores of Dianchi Lake (滇池) to settle in the lakeside ecological wetland. During summer nights, the park comes alive with the chorus of thousands, even tens of thousands, of frogs croaking in unison.
Previously known as Dongdahe Wetland Park, it was renamed to Nandianchi National Wetland Park (南滇池国家湿地公园) after being declared a national wetland park.
Nandianchi National Wetland Park is located in Jinning County (晋宁县), on the southern shore of Dianchi Lake. It is a beautifully scenic waterside park where visitors can enjoy vast water views, lush greenery, and experience local customs in the unique “Birdcage Village” (鸟笼村). The park also features a sandy beach, making it a delightful destination.
Amidst the park’s vast wetlands, every view reveals the gifts of nature: tranquil waters, pristine water lilies (马蹄莲), and leisurely water birds. If you lean down, you can hear the gentle whispers of nature all around you.
The park offers bicycle rental services, including single and tandem bikes, priced at 20 yuan for a two-seater and 30 yuan for a four-seater (excluding holidays). Riding your favorite bike allows you to travel to the terminal stop of line 4.
There is also a long corridor dedicated to the popularization of knowledge about animals and plants. According to available data, this wetland park is rich in flora and fauna, featuring six types of vegetation groups and twelve vegetation sub-types, with a recorded 223 plant species.
From the line 4 terminal stop, it is about a 500-meter walk to the shore of Dianchi Lake. This location boasts 53 kilometers of lakeside shoreline, perfect for a leisurely stroll while quietly enjoying the sunset reflecting off the water, allowing you to slow down time, escape the city’s noise, and savor moments of tranquility.
Feeling tired? Come rest at Xingwang Village (兴旺村) inside the wetland park, where you will find a farmhouse restaurant called Haigu Fang (海沽坊). To reach it, walk 400 meters straight from the right side of the Xingwang Village Committee. A must-try dish here is the Copper Pot Fish (铜锅鱼), a perfect combination of fresh fish and copper pot, with flavorful broth and tender fish that is refreshing and enjoyable.

Location:
Xihua Wetland Park (西华湿地公园) is located on the western shore of Dianchi Lake (滇池), at the foot of Guanyin Mountain (观音山). Covering an area of approximately 781 acres, the park includes 281 acres of ecological wetland. It is home to 1,225 trees, including willows (柳树), Yunnan camphor trees (滇朴), and peach trees (桃树), as well as over 250,000 clumps of aquatic plants. Xihua Wetland Park is a beautiful and tranquil place that photography enthusiasts should not miss. To appreciate the beauty of nature, one must possess the eyes to discover and capture beautiful moments. The scenery of Xihua Wetland retains a simple style, akin to a precious gem, pleasing to both the eyes and the heart. Each plant and tree grows freely, devoid of the uniform layout typically seen in gardens, offering only the simplicity of a natural environment. When you cannot experience nature’s original state in the city, venture further to let your eyes savor the vibrant landscapes of the wetland.
Starting from Xishan District (西山区):
Xihua Wetland Park is a serene destination, featuring lush reeds, secluded boardwalks, the calls of shorebirds, and rippling winds. The landscape beautifully showcases the harmony between lake and mountains. Over 27,000 trees of the water-loving species, such as the middle mountain fir (中山杉), which effectively absorb nitrogen and phosphorus from the water and possess significant economic value, have been planted in the wetland. This contributes to the park’s three-dimensional wetland forest structure of trees, shrubs, and grasses. The surface of the water is adorned with reeds, cattails (香蒲), and windmill grass (风车草).
To reach the park, start from Dianchi Road (滇池路) and take the Gaohai Expressway; the drive takes about half an hour. There are no nearby bus stops, so driving is the most ideal way to visit. The park’s stunning features, including dense reeds, winding boardwalks, the sounds of sea birds, and gentle wind ripples, create a breathtaking environment.
In recent years, the Xishan District Committee and District Government have focused on wetland construction, adopting strategies such as “pollution interception outside the lake, dredging within the lake, water diversion from outside, and ecological restoration.” They have implemented ecological restoration of the lakeside as a foundational approach for managing Dianchi Lake, striving to preserve the original environment as much as possible. Even the wild grasses next to the boardwalk are encouraged to grow naturally.
Overview of Attractions:
Departing from Dianchi Road and heading towards the exit of Gao Hai Expressway, it takes about half an hour by car. There are no nearby bus stops, so driving is the ideal mode of transportation. The park is characterized by dense reeds, secluded boardwalks, the sounds of seabirds, and the movement of wind and waves. The beauty of the lake and mountains is boundless.
Through the planting of more than 27,000 upright and aesthetically pleasing water-loving trees like Chinese fir, which efficiently absorb nitrogen and phosphorus from the water, Xihua Wetland Park has truly become a wetland forest park with a three-dimensional structure of trees, shrubs, and grasses. In recent years, guided by the principles of “pollution interception outside the lake, dredging inside the lake, water transfer from external areas, and ecological restoration,” the Xishan District Committee and Government have prioritized lakeside ecological restoration as the foundation of Dianchi Lake’s management, striving to preserve the original environment to the greatest extent possible, even allowing wild grasses to grow naturally along the boardwalk.
Address: Next to Gao Hai Expressway (near Dianchi Lake).

Liulin Beach (柳林沙滩) is a scenic spot located in Chenggong District (呈贡区) along the eastern shore of Dianchi Lake (滇池) in Kunming (昆明). This area is known for its abundance of fish and rice, symbolizing prosperity.
At the entrance to Dou Nan (斗南) facing the lake, specifically in the area around Cailong Village (采龙村), visitors can find a 5-kilometer-long stretch of soft, delicate sandy beach. The clear and gentle waves of the lake, combined with a broad expanse of lush green willow trees, create a natural barrier along the eastern side of the beach. The lake reflects the greenery of the willows, making the scene both beautiful and enchanting. From across the lake, one can admire the peaks of the Western Hills (西山), which appear like a reclining fairy above the turquoise waters. This expansive and sunny stretch of sand at Liulin is regarded as the largest and most picturesque bathing area on Dianchi Lake.

The road leading from the northwest of the county town connects to Dou Nan Village, which further leads to the picturesque Liulin Beach. The beach itself stretches gracefully along the lakeshore, providing a serene atmosphere that attracts many visitors.
Adjacent to Dou Nan Village is a large expanse of farmland where various flowers are cultivated. This area boasts the largest wholesale market for fresh-cut flowers in the country, where large quantities of blooms are sold daily to markets both within and outside the province, as well as to international destinations.
Visitors can take Bus No. 12 from Kunming (昆明) to Chenggong County. From there, they can switch to a minibus heading to the northwest of the county town, reaching Dou Nan Village. Traveling west from Dou Nan Village will lead directly to Liulin Beach.
Before the completion of Yongchang (永昌)Wetland Park, it was Yongchang(永昌) Fish Pond. It was located in the south of the Dianchi Kunming Resort (滇池旅游度假区),the Chuanfan river (船房河)in the south of the mouth, and was adjacent to the Caohai lake(草海). The original Yongchang(永昌) fish pond was built with earth and stone breakwaters, fish ponds and dams, and built houses. Such a pattern not only cuts off and reduces the lake surface of the Caohai lake(草海), but also has become a source of water pollution at the Caohai lake (草海)because of the fish pond farming the operation for many years.
In order to improve the ecological environment and water environment quality of Yongchang(永昌) fish ponds, the nearby residents have a livable and comfortable living environment. In 2009, Dianchi Kunming Resort(滇池旅游度假区) will implement the ‘Returning to the lake ’ Wetland Construction Project in two phases. Demolition of more than 200 square meters of fish pond houses, cleaning of weeds and garbage of 130,000 square meters, dismantling the original breakwaters of more than 1,480 cubic meters, dismantling 14,635 cubic meters of fish ponds, clearing 57,000 cubic meters of silt, and building Yongchang(永昌) Wetland Park.
The completion of the 218-mu ecological wetland in Yongchang(永昌)Fish Pond not only serves the comprehensive management and ecological restoration of the Dian Lake(滇池), but also provides a beautiful ecological wetland landscape park for the general public and tourists.
Yongchang (永昌)Wetland Park is planted with more than 4,800 square meters of small shrubs and ground cover, more than 4,215 trees of arbor, willow, poplar, and leafhopper, and more than 35,336 square meters of aquatic plants such as calamus, sedge, and lotus. There are also 16 landscape islands, planted with hydrophilic vines on the edge of the island to enhance the stability and landscape effect of the island’s waterfront edge. At the same time, the wetland park lighting project was implemented in the inner ecosystem, and the outline of the wetland park was clearly outlined at night.
At 22 o’clock in the evening, you can look at the light, that is, the location of Yongchang(永昌) Wetland Park. Walking alone in the Yongchang(永昌) Wetland Park, the stone pavement is about 5 meters wide. Although it is close to the night, the unique lighting and comfortable and hydrophilic natural environment have a sense of the sea.
