Profile

Luo Weikuan(罗维宽)was born in 1936,  he is Hani ethnic minority and lived in Lianzhu Town, Mojiang County, Puer City(普洱市墨江县联珠镇)

Personal Experiences

At the age of 8, he began to learn knitting craft from Wu Jiahong (吴家宏)in Wumiao Street, mainly tung oil bamboo hat(桐油篾帽) and bird cage. The bamboo hat is the mascot of the Biyue branch(碧约支系) of the Hani ethnic  minority and the engagement gift of young men and women. From 1958 to 1960, Luo Weikuan took a full-time job  in the Commune Hat Factory to weave Hats, from 1961 to 1963, he knitted bamboo hats in the brigade’s Mie factory.(大队篾场)

Achievements

He has been knitting bamboo hat for more than 50 years. His skill of knitting bamboo hat and bird cage are the best  of Biyue Branch. His work bamboo hat was sent to Beijing for exhibition as early as 1959.                                               He is the first batch of  inheritor of provincial intangible cultural heritage.

Present Situation

Nowadays, with the improvement of people’s living standards, more and more people grow flowers and raise birds. Bird cages are also selling better and better, while the hat is seldom done because of  few people need it. This skill of  making broad-rimmed bamboo hats slowly disappearing.

Li Zengbao(李增保) was born in 1932 in Cun Xiazhai(村下寨), Datangzi Village(大塘子村), Zhutang Township(竹塘乡), Lahu Autonomous County, Puer City. He was a representative inheritor of the Lahu Reed Dance Project.

Life Experience

Li Zengbao loved his traditional culture since he was a child. At the age of 15, he began to learn Lusheng Dance with the father and learn to sing the ancient songs of the nation.When he was 20 years old, he basically mastered the movements and routines of the Lusheng Dance. He was famous in the local area.

At the age of 40, he mastered more than 100 sets of Lusheng Dance, especially good at Gaji(嘎祭), old man dance(老人物), Yanuoga(亚诺嘎), open door dance(开门舞), monkey dance(猴子舞), etc. And he can sang the epic “Mupamipa”(牡帕密帕) completely.

His Lusheng Dance moves are in place, with vivid image and lively rhythm, forming a deep but firm and flexible artistic style, completely retaining the original and primitive Lusheng dance charm, with distinct national characteristics and artistic appeal.

Achievements

Li Zengbao often uses spare time to organize local people to teach Lusheng Dance. Under his leading and teaching, a group of young Lusheng dancers are active in the local area and appear in various cultural activities. Li Zengbao played an active role in inheriting and developing the Lahu dance.

Li Zhaluo(李扎倮), male, Lahu nationality(拉祜族), born in 1943, is a member of Lancang Lahu Autonomous County(澜沧拉祜族自治县), Puer City(普洱市). Li Zhaluo and his brother, Li Zhage(李扎戈) are the inheritors of Lusheng Dance of Lahu Ethnic Minority(拉祜族芦笙舞) and Epic of Creation-Mupamipa (牡帕密帕) in Jiujing Town(酒井乡) of Lancang County, Puer.

Personal Experiences

Li Zhaluo and his brother were born in a family of singing and dancing. Their predecessors have a history of singing and dancing inheritance for generations. Some of their younger generations are well-known for their singing and dancing creation and performance.
Li Zhaluo and Li Zhage began to learn Lahu ethnic song and dance when they were 13 years old. They learned the traditional movements and routines of Lusheng dance and the national epic Mupamipa. When there were major festivals or sacrificial activities, they would follow the master to participate in. 
After more than 10 years of study, they have mastered the skills of Lusheng dance and the ability of choreography. They have learned the speaking and singing of Mupamipa, and become a very few artists who can fully speak and sing this epic.

Achievement

In 1989, Mupamipa sung by Li Zhaluo was published by Yunnan National Culture Press(云南民族文化出版社).
In February 2005, Li Zhaniluo performed Lusheng Dance in CCTV’s Charm 12 column(魅力十二栏目).
n 2006, he sang Mupamipa and performed Lusheng Dance in the First National Art Festival of Puer City(普洱第一届民族艺术节).
