At 07:30 am, meet your tour guide & driver at the south gate of Lijiang Old Town( in Chinese:丽江古城南门) and head to Tiger Leaping Gorge. On the way, have a distance view of the First Bend of Yangtze River from afar. Arrive at Qiaotou Town, and hike about 2.5 hours from Qiaotou Elementary School to Naxi Family in Nuoyu Village for your lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, continue hiking about 1.5 hours to the 28 Zigzag Turns Trail . Have a wonderful view of the upper part of Tiger Leaping Gorge from 28 Turns Trail. After that, hike about 1 hour to Tea & Horse Guesthouse for overnight.

Day 2 Tea & Horse Guesthouse – Tina’s Guesthouse – Lijiang/Shangri-la

After that, trek from Tina’s Guesthouse down to the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge via Teacher Zhang’s Guesthouse. Then you will trek from Thin Strip of Sky(Or:Yixiantian, 一线天）to Walnut Grove Garden. Walk back to Tina’s Guesthouse. At 3:30 pm, take a bus back to Lijiang or Shangri-la.

Drop you off to the south gate of Lijiang Old Town(in Chinese:丽江古城南门) or Shangri-la Moonshine Square(in Chinese:月光广场). Tour ends.

Visit the Iron Chain Bridge ,the Red Army’s Long March Memorial Monument in the Shigu Old Town. The town of Stone Drum got its name from a large, cylindrical, marble tablet shaped like a drum. 3 days Nanjiluo tour is a classic hiking and photograph tour. The accommodations are not good enough as other tours, sometimes we need to camp in the mountain, so prepare for it both physically and psychologically.
The sceneries along the way is so beauiful and unique that you can not experience from other tours. Preference to bring a camera with enough memory cards to record the beauty along the road.

Haba Snow Mountain stands by the Jinsha River, 120KM southeast of Shangri-La, with its main peak of 5,396m. The glacier on the Haba Snow Mountain is the southmost glacier in China. The highlight of this tour is to hike to the summit of Haba Snow Mountain, which takes 2.5~3 days at pace for ascent and descent and requires spending nights on the mountain. In the mnorning, you’ll start your memorable Lijiang tour from Lijiang Ancient Town (Dayan Ancient Town). Take a leisure walk up the Lion Hill and climb up the 33-meter-tall Wanggu Tower – the landmark building of Lijiang to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole old town and countryside scenery, as well as overlook the magnificent Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance. Later, follow a trip to Ming-dynasty style Mufu Palace, the “Forbidden City” of Lijiang to know Tusi’s ruling history and appreciate Naxi people’s brilliant culture and fine arts. Then, drive to visit Shuhe Old Town. Nestled at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, 6 km northwest of Lijiang old town. Shuhe was once a staging post at ancient Tea & Horse Road. With an altitude of 2440 meters above sea level, it is a tranquil town with a population of about 3000 people. Along with its sister town Lijiang, it is also part of the UNESCO Heritage site. Shuhe is the earliest settlement of Naxi people in Lijiang when their ancestors first moved to this region.

After lunch, drive to visit Baisha Old Town, which is an enchanting traditional Naxi style old town. Visit the Baisha Mural about 600 years old, which is a part of the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO 1997. Then, drive to Yuhu Village which is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. When walking into this authentic Naxi Village, you’ll see unique stone houses, Naxi ladies dressing in traditional clothes, kids playing, a tranquil Yuhu Lake…Explore leisurely around the village and then get to the Former Residence of Joseph Rock, who was an Austrian-American Botanist came to Lijiang and stayed in Yuhu Village for 27 years and made huge research work on Naxi minority.

Afterwards, drive back to the hotel in the late afternoon. Service ends.

Day 3 Lijiang-Jade Dragon Snow Mountain-Baoshan Stone Town

Pick you up at your hotel in Lijiang downtown. Drive to visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Mountain) is the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. Consisting of 13 peaks, among which Shanzidou is the highest with an altitude of 5,600 meters (18,360 feet), the mountain stretches a length of 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a width of 20 kilometers (13 miles). Looking from Lijiang Old Town in the south which is 15 kilometers (nine miles) away, the snow-covered and fog-enlaced mountain resembles a jade dragon lying in the clouds, hence the name.

Then drive to Baoshan Stone Town . Visit local people and stay overnight in guesthouse.

Day 4 Baoshan Stone Town-Mingyin-Daju Town

Arrive at the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge at noon and enjoy the lunch in Tina’s Hostel. Continue the hiking tour up to the Haba Snow Mountain, visit the Bamboo Forest, the Flying Cliff, Guanyin Temple; Arrive at Bendiwan Village stay at Halfway Hostel. Day 6 Bendiwan Village-Nuoyu Village-28 Turns-Naxi Family-Qiaotou-Haba Village

After breakfast, hike from Halfway Guesthouse to Nuoyu Village and then to Qiaotou Town. The whole distance covered on the first day is about 17 kilometers, and you’ll hike for about six hours in total. First, hike for 2 hours to the steep switchback called 28 Zigzag Turns before the next break. The views are unforgettable. After a break, hike another one or two hours, and then we will arrive at Naxi Family for lunch.

Hike another two hours from Naxi Family, we will arrive at Qiaotou Town. Of course,we will have a great view of Yulong Snow Mountain and overlooks the Jinsha (Golden Sands) River Valley during the hiking. Finish the hiking adventure tour when you arrive in Qiaotou Town. Meet our driver and transfer to Haba Village.

Arrive at Haba Snow Mountain Guesthouse in Haba Village. You will prepare for your equipment and acclimatize youselves to the altitude(2600M in Haba Snow Mountain Guesthouse). After lunch, examine your heart rate and blood oxygen content, and learn the knowledge, condition and introduction of the Haba Snow Mountain Climbing. Overnight at Haba Snow Mountain Guesthouse.

Trek up the Haba Mountain for about 15 km to the Base Camp at the 4200m, which will take about 7 hours, with yaks taking your luggage. You will have picnic lunch in Haba Snow Mountain. You only need to take some water, clothes and necessary food, the other equipment will be transferred by the horses to the Basic Camp.

Base camp altitude indications vary depending on who you ask but we found it to be at about 4100 m so this is a rather long day and the path can get very muddy. Use good waterproof boots. The walk will take 4-6 hours and is mostly through the beautiful Yunann forest apart from three meadows that you will cross on the way.

Today you will hike up 1500M of the altitude, arrive at the Base Camp in the afternoon. Because of the high elevation, everyone will suffer the different altitude sickness. You should know how to adjust the situation and adapt to the high elevation. If you really feel not very well, please tell your escort.

Note: It is not allowed to sleep before 9:00 PM.

Overnight at the Base Camp or in the wooden hut(beds and quilts are available in the wooden hut).

Day 8 Base Camp of Haba Snow Mountain-Huanghai Lake-Heihai Lake-Base Camp

Day 9 Base Camp of Haba Snow Mountain-Camp 2 – The Submmit of Haba-Base Camp-Haba Village

Get up at 3:00 am, prepare for your equipment and have a simple breakfast. Examine your health condition before leaving for the top at 4:00 AM. You will leave most of your luggage at the Camp 1, just need to take your mountaineering tools, such as the rope, ice axe, ice pick, the bag, some solid food, a warm pot of water, clothes, headlight, climbing equipment for the climbing to the summit of Haba Mountain.

–Camp 1 is located just before the 2nd grey slab at about 4800m. Usually people did not stay there but from what you could observe it seems quite uncomfortable due to the very rocky and uneven surface. A small pond nearby provides water.

You will try to climb about 4 km to the top of the Haba Snow Mountain at the 5396m, which will take about 5 hours. It is the ice and snow trail from the camp 1 to the summit, the altitude up 500M, usually, it will take you about 3 hours to the top. Enjoy the wonderful scenery of Haba Snow Mountain and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with Yangtze River in the middle, take the pictures as souvenir. Here will be an unforgettable station of your life.

After having a picnic lunch, you will trek down to Camp 1 to take your luggage, then continue trek down to Haba Village.

Day 10 Haba Village-Baishuitai Terraces-Shangri-La

After breakfast, drive from Haba Village to visit Baishuitai Terraces. Baishuitai is located in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, southeast of Shangri-La City. It is 101 kilometers away from Shangri-La and 2,380 meters above sea level. It is the birthplace of the Dongba Religion of Naxi people. Looking in the distance, Baishuitai hidden in the green hills is really like terraced fields. Under the sunshine, it is like a frozen waterfall in a photograph. A foot on the white stone steps, there is a cool feeling that can not be spoken out.

Then, drive to Shangri-La. Enjoy the rest time of the day in Dukezong Old Town where you can see a big pray wheel about 10 meters high and the local house. In the evening, people will gather at here to dance Guochuang Tibetan dancing. During Yifeng, Tiaolu periods of the Tang Dynasty, Tubo government established a stockade village here, named “Dukezhong” meaning City of Moonlight, in addition, another stockaded village called “Likezhong” meaning City of Sunlight was built at the edge of opposite Naizi River.

Day 11 Shangri-La

In the morning, visit the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan. Songzanlin Monastery has another alias – ‘the little Potala Palace ‘, so named because the whole monastery is in the traditional style with mysterious atmosphere.

And afterwards you’ll visit the tranquil Bita Lake & Shudu Lake in Pudacuo National Park. Pudacuo National Park is located in one of the most biologically-diverse regions of the world. While the region comprises only 0.7 percent of China’s land area, it contains more than 20 percent of the country’s plant species, about one-third of its mammal and bird species and almost 100 endangered species.

Finally, you will have an option to visit a Tibetan’s family(Ticket: 150 Yuan not included) to experience the local life in the bonfire party with Tibetan dance and music and you will try Tibetan home-made yak and cheese.

Day 1 Arrive in Jinghong

Day 2 Jinghong – Mengla – Wangtianshu – Nanlahe River

08:00—10:30: drive through the national nature reserve to Wangtianshu Scenic Area in Mengla County.

10:30—12:00: treck through the Philip path about 3 hours to experience the mysterious rainforest with some sightseeing of trees and birds and some collections of animals’ and plants’ specimen. The path in the rainforest, with enormous trees and sounding stream alongside, is long and winding which will make you truly feel the magic and beauty of the nature. Wangtianshu is more than 80 meters in height and you can walk through the flexible and frightening air corridors which were hung in the air.

12:00—14:00: lunch at Avatar scenic spot(Dai food——glutinous rice).

14:00—14:30: transfer to Yequ ( 野趣 means have fun in the wild) Campsite in Nanla.

14:30—16:30: visit Manglongle village (曼龙勒) of Dai people, visit their folk houses; look for tropical fruits such as dragonfruit, carabola, jackfruit, pawpaw, banana, bullock’s-heart, tamarind fruit, coconut and mango, etc; play Gaosheng (a kind of firework usually played at the New Year of Dai people); visit traditional weaving and visit a Dai family.

16:30—19:00: have a short break and eat dinner(a self-help barbecue along the river).

19:00—21:00: study on the night habits of animals and plants, have a free discuss about unfamiliar animals and plants.

Day 3 Nanlahei River – Jinghong

Nannuo Tea Mountain in Menghai County, XishuangBanna

08:00—09:00: get up for breakfast and check-out, then meet together in the hall

09:00—10:30: drve to the local Hani ethnic market of Nannuoshan Mountain (南糯山), you can have a look of their saling products which all come from the mountain–tea cream, dendrobe, wild mushroom, olives, bamboo shoots and sour bamboo shoots, etc. You can see their life styles and cultures through the market.

10:30—12:00: drive to Huimin Ecology Village, the residence of Lahu people. You can see the differences between Lahu people with Hani, Bulang and Wa people in the terms of culture and building.

12:00—13:00: lunch (in the Ecology Village). Then, pick some eggs in the tea plantation and pick fresh fruits and vegetables to get ready for cooking the dinner by yourselves.

13:00—15:00: drive to the residence of Bulang people and check in the Princess Brown Inn. You can chat with the Bulangs with a cup of tea and they may tell you the story of Bulang people and Puer Tea.

16:30—20:00: drive to the ancient village of Bulang people–Wengji (翁基) Ancient Village, stroll around the village and visit a local family. You can cook your delicious dinner in their traditional kitchen while the kids can go to feed their pigs with your guide, play with local children and visit other families. After dinner, go to a local tea house for a cup of tea and watch the sunset.

20:00—21:00: back to the Princess Brown Inn, have a nice chat about the customs, history and culture of Bulang people, you can also get to know some thing about their Nver Tea (Nver means daughter in Chinese).

21:00—22:00: back to relax.

Day 5 Jingmai Tea Mountain

Laodabao Village in Lancang County, Puer

The Aileng Mountain is named by the leader of Bulang People and you can get a better understanding of the origination of Puer Tea by this hiking tour.

11:00—12:30: drive to a local family of Jingmai.

12:30—13:30: enjoy the specialty of Jingmai Mountain–the tea meal.

13:30—15:00: leave for Kangxin Hotel.

16:00—21:00: drive to a Lahu village–Laodabao Village (老达保拉祜族村寨). It is the only believer of Christian among Lahu villages in China owing to the industrious preacher. The preacher also brought latin letters, music and church to them. Laodabao village is also the only Lahu village which owns their own writing language. You can appreciate their primitive wooden houses and solemn church in the village.

After that, have dinner ( chicken porridge and barbecue of Lahu style). After dinner, lean some Lahu songs and dances, watch a Lusheng dance show performed by Lahu people around a campfire.

21:00: back to hotel.

In the 8:00 of morning, get up and have breakfast. Drive to Menghai County to transfer for a local bus to Manwa Village (about 4 hours due to a length of gravel road). Then begin your hiking tour of the day (about 7 KM) and you can have a nice view of Burma’ mountains and primitive forests during your hiking.

Day 3 Manwa – Zhanglang

Get up in the sound of crow in early morning and have breakfast, then begin to trek through the primitive forest. You can see the Shengshui Pond (圣水塘) and One Tree Forest on the way. The treking is a littel bit hard because it is about 18KM and you have to climb over two mountains and go through a river. Better to bring lunch by yourselves and have your lunch on the way. You will arrive at Zhanglang – the ancient Bulang village which was surrounded by enormous ancient trees. After dinner (Bulang specialty), enjoy some Bulang music, appreciate stars upon the sky and have a nice chat with Bulang people to get a better understanding of Bulang culture and tea culture.

Day 4 Zhanglang-Xiding

After breakfast, visit Bulang Eco-museum, then hike through the ancient tea plantation which was inside of the primitive forest. Along the way, you will come across the Elephant Well, a mysterious Bulang Village, two Hani villages, rice terraces and cane fields, etc. Have a rest in local families and enjoy a cup of tea they made for you. Finally, after hiking through a modern tea plantation you will arrive at Xiding. The total hike of today is about 16KM, easier than the day before.

Day 5 Xiding – Nannuo Mountain – Jinghong

It is very popular among Chinese and foreighners, sometimes Burmese also come to the market.
Then, visit Nannuoshan Tea Mountain.

Travel Tips:

Take some lightweight clothes with you and wear comfortable walking shoes for tired trekking and overnight staying at Tiger Leaping Gorge. If possible, knee pads are necessary to avoid any bump.
If trekking in winter or rainy season, the windbreaker, gloves, antiskid shoes and waterproof coat will be needed in case of temperature drop and get wet in the rain.
If you are easy to be hungry and tired during the trekking, bring some high caloric snacks with you, such as chocolate and beef jerky. If not, you can buy food at local guesthouses along the route. In the morning, drive about 30KM to Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M), you will take the sightseeing bus for a short visiting through the Baishuihe River, take the chairlift up to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Take a cablecar to Spruce Meadow. You will hike around 1 hour in the original forest in Spruce Meadow (3200M).

After lunch, you will have an option to enjoy the Impression Lijang Ethnic Show (Tickets:190 Yuan not included) directed in Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M). A cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place inside Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater specifically designed to showcase the mountain which is used as a backdrop. The production itself was designed by Zhang Yimou, Fan Yue and Wang Chaoge, a cast of over 500 people, and a number of horses. In the afternoon, you’ll stroll through Baisha Old Town, which is an enchanting traditional Yunnan town. Visit the Baisha Mural about 600 years old, which is one part of the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO 1997.

Day 3 Lijiang

Morning, you will head to visit Black Dragon Pool, enjoy the wonderful reflection view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the pool. Visit the Dongba Museum and explore the Naxi ethnic culture. At night, join in the singing competition party at the bank of ancient streams which wind through the town. Then go to stroll and enjoy the relax time in the Ancient Town of Lijiang, which is a largely Naxi settlement first built 800 years agao, located at the foot of the Lion Hill and completely surrounded by the new city of Lijiang. In December 1986, the State Council designated it a famous ancient historical and cultural city of national caliber. In 1997, UNESCO made Lijiang a World Cultural Heritage Site.

Day 4 Lijiang – Qiaotou – Bendiwan Village

In the morning, drive about 100KM to Qiaotou Town(Tiger Leaping Gorge Town). Drive along the Naxi ethnic villages and the upper Yangtze River, with a panoramic view of the First Bend of Yangtze River on the way. You will start the trekking of Tiger Leaping Gorge, as one of the world’s four great gorges, which is honored as one of the deepest and most marvelous gorge with 3900 meters in depth.

Start the trekking form the Qaiotou Primary School, after half an hour, arrive in Changsheng Village, pay a visit to Changsheng Hope Primary School. Arrive in Zhong Nuoyu village at noon and have lunch in Naxi Family Guesthouse. After lunch, you will start the most difficult part of the trekking to the 28 Zigzag Bends trail and reach the top peak at the elevation of 2670m.

You will arrive at Half-Way Guest House to finish today’s trekking. There is a nice platform on the roof of Halfway Guesthouse, after dinner, you will enjoy the wonderful Jade Dragon Snow Mountain facing to Bendiwan Village with couples of drinks.

Note: While you are walking in the gorge, our support team will take all of your luggage to meet you at Tina’s Guest House, so you only need to carry two bottles of water, some chocolate and your camera on the trip.

Day 5 Bendiwan Village-Middle Gorge-Shangri-La

Get up in the early morning, hiking down to Tina’s Guest House, passing a small but high waterfall on the way. Then we will trek further down to the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge and get back, which will take you about three hours. You will firstly trek from Tina’s Guesthouse down to Teacher Zhang’s Guesthouse, where you can have a nice view of the middle gorge looks like a big gate. It is quite steep trail from Teacher Zhang’s Guesthouse down to the Middle Rapids.

From the Middle Rapids, there are two small trails back to the road. The first one is to climb the Tianti or “Sky Ladder”, which is a challenge, vertical and dangerous climbing. Usually we choose the lower trail and trek to the Walnut Grove Garden. This is a nice trekking along the Yangtze River. Transfer along the Haba Snow Mountain to Shangri-La, visit Baishuitai Terraces on the way.

Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge, as the most perilous section, features a huge drop in water level. Six km away from the upper gorge is a waterfall where the river crashes down over 100 meters hitting the rocks in the river bed and creating violent currents. In 100-meter section are numerous reefs, and the current is torrential. The gorge is rarely traversed by humans, but on the slope between the Middle and Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge there is a small village — Hetaoyuan Village, which has little contact with the outside, where villagers lead a simple and natural life, dwelling in stone-plate houses.

Day 6 Shangri-La

Drive from the west coast of Erhai Lake to Wase Town (挖色镇) on the east shore, then move on to Hongshan Forest Farm (红山林场) to start your hiking to the Submit of Jizu Mountain via Fengweijing Village(凤尾菁), Niujiaoshan Mountain(牛角山), Muxiangping(木香坪) and Taohuajing Village(桃花菁). 9:30: meet together at Dali Ancient Town and head for Hongshan Forest Farm(红山林场). On the way, enjoy the view of Xiaguan(下关) and Xiaoputuo(小普陀), visit Wase(挖色) market and have lunch at Wase. Then, drive along the ancient pilgrimage road to Hongshan Forest Farm.

1st Scenic Spot: Wase (1.5 hours drive)
2nd Scenic Spot：Hongshan Forest Farm( 2 hours drive), head from Wase at about 13:30 and appriciate the charming sceneries along the ancient pilgrim road, upon the arrival, start your hike tour.
3rd Scenic Spot：Muxiangping(3 hours hike) via Niujiaoshan Mountain and Muxiangping Pasture with an overlook of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake on the west side, Xiangyun County on the east side.

Birding/animal watching: don’t forget a good pair of binoculars. If you’ve got extra cash to splash, you could even opt for digital binoculars with the ability to record what you see. These units have detailed topographic maps and are rugged enough to survive being dropped. It also doubles as a compass.
Stop leeches: if you’re hiking into leech terrain, take some precautions. While there isn’t a fail-proof method against these bloodsuckers, hikers have had success with a variety of methods and gear including using strong insect repellent or eucalyptus oil, wearing leech-proof socks, waterproof boots, leg gaiters and carrying a stick tipped with a salt-soaked cloth (apparently, leeches hate salt so if you see one, touch it gently with the cloth).
Trekking poles: hiking sticks, walking poles, whatever you call them, some hikers swear by these to generate a good rhythm as well as provide support on steep terrain. We’d recommend leaving them at home unless you really need them (for example, if you need support for a bad knee, you’re going through particularly tough terrain, and so on).

Day 1 Wenhai Lake-Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Pick you up at your hotel. Drive to Wenhai Lake. Wenhai Lake will be the starting point of this tour. It is a high altitude wetland park. You can see many free-ranging horses, flocks and herds here. You can also visit some ethnic villages around Wenhai Lake. Hike 2 hours to a spruce forest. There’s a wood house in this forest for you to have a rest and have lunch. After a short rest, go on hiking about 1.5 hours to a grassland. On the way, you will pass through a bealock. It is a viewing platform for hikers to see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from a distance.

Then hike about half an hour to the foot of side peak of the Jade Dragon Snow Moutain. From here, you will hike a slope with a gradient of 60-70. Go on your hiking for about 1 hour, then you will reach the top of the moutain ( 4642m).

After a short rest, hike down to Wenhai Lake. The hiking tour ends. Drive back to Lijiang.
