This adventure blends breathtaking mountain scenery with cultural encounters in Naxi and Tibetan villages. To make the most of your trek, keep these practical tips in mind:
Fitness & Altitude
The tour includes moderate to challenging hikes, especially in Tiger Leaping Gorge and near Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Prepare with light training such as jogging or stair climbing. Lijiang sits at 2,400m, and trails can reach over 3,000m, so take it easy the first day, drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol to help with acclimatization.
Best Season to Go
The ideal trekking months are April–June and September–November, when the weather is dry and clear. July–August can be rainy, and winter months may be cold at higher altitudes.
What to Bring
Wear sturdy hiking boots and quick-dry clothing. Pack a rain jacket, warm layers for cool nights, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle. Trekking poles and a small first-aid kit are also useful.
Accommodation & Food
Stay in boutique hotels in Lijiang and simple but charming lodges along the trails. Meals are mostly Chinese-style, with local Naxi and Tibetan flavors. Inform your guide in advance if you need vegetarian options.
Culture & Etiquette
Be respectful when visiting villages—ask before taking photos, and greet locals warmly. Avoid entering temples or homes without permission.
Safety & Connectivity
Follow your guide’s instructions, especially on steep sections of the gorge. Internet and mobile payment options may be limited in rural areas, so carry some cash.
Eco-Friendly Travel
Please help keep Yunnan’s mountains pristine—carry out your trash and use reusable bottles.
