Just as its name implies, the Shangri-la-Nyingchi Railway(Xianglin Line for short) is a railway from Shangri-La to Nyingchi. It is an important section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway, which is connected to the Lixiang(Lijiang-Shangari-la) Railway and the Lalin(Lhasa-Nyingchi) Railway.
Route Description
Route: Shangari-la-Baima Snow Mountain–Deqin County–Meili Snow Mountain–Zogang County–Nujiang River–Baxoi County–Bome County-Nyingshi.
The Shangri-la-Nyingchi Railway is drawn from Shangri-La Station of the Lixiang Railway through Zhongdian, crossing the Luole Mountain罗勒山(10.1-kilometer Tunnel), Yeka页卡(10.35-kilometer Tunnel), and passing through the Baima Snow Mountain to Deqin at the junction of Yunnan and Tibet with a tunnel of 15.85 kilometers； Across the Lancang River, passing through Meili Snow Mountain into Tibet by a 15.65-kilometer long tunnel, reaching Bitu Town. Then turning north along the Yuqu River(玉曲), through Zayu, Zogang and turn west, passing through Tiantuo(田妥) and leaving Yuqu river; going up along Lengqu River(冷曲), the Nujiang River tributary, and going up through River Valley to the Anjiula pass安久拉垭口(4442 meters above sea level, the highest point of the railway); And then passing through Bome and Tongmai from east to west along the Parung Zangpo, then going south along the Layue River(拉月曲), crossing Demula Tunnel(德姆拉隧道) and arriving in Nyingchi. The length of the railway line is about 900 kilometers.

The Water Splashing Festival (Water Spray Festival) is the grandest traditional festival of Dai nationality.
During three days in the mid April every year, people bless mutually by splashing water and take an active part in activities such as dragon boat matching, singing and dancing.
The activities are very rich in the three Water Splashing Festival (Water Spray Festival) days. In the first day, people hold dragon boats match near the Lancangjiang River. That day, there are many long dragon boats on the surface of the river, painted with colorful wood-carved head of the dragon and dragon tail, installed in front and back of the boat.
When the boat raise starts, tens of oars fly up and down. On the boat, the shouted sound is so loud that it shakes the sky. Near the bank, the cheering sound is loud as well. People bring bowls and bowls of rice wine for the superior man and cast the candy to them. They dance the “Yilahe” happily, companioning with the happiness of victory and the sound of drums.
The second day is the grandest day – the Water Splashing Day. In the morning, all the men and women, old and young carrying buckets and basins to the streets. There are more people go to the riverside. Under the shining sun, they spray water to each others who participate in this grand meeting.
The person who got sprayed the most water and hared most will be the luckiest. Firstly, the old women of Dai nationality spray a little water on the olive leaf to people lightly. However, the sisters of Dai nationality often irrigate a big basin of water into people’s collar.
People pursue mutually from riverside to grove, from road to the bamboo building for living. Children run here and there with the basin buckled on the head and the fellows pursuing others, they are often sprays wet thoroughly by the girls standing on the platform of the bamboo buildings. In the evening, they will hold a grand entertainment party and sing, dance, set off fireworks and guess lantern riddles continuously till mid-night.
On the third day of the Water Splashing Festival (Water Spray Festival), the programs are even richer. Among them, the most brilliant are putting “Gaosheng“, throwing pouch, and dancing peacock dance. So-called putting “Gaosheng” is that a ring of bamboo tubes tied up on the tops of long bamboo poles.
The bamboo tubes filled with gunpowder, which will fly into the sky suddenly with a loud crash. According to the customs, people must place five things symbolizing suspiciousness into the biggest “Gaosheng”. The person who picks up these auspicious things will be lucky for the whole year.
In “Throwing Pouch”, people divide into left, and right two rows, one side is fellows and the other is a girl. A pouch sewed with colorful cloth and decorated with two ribbons is flying to the fellows. Every time throwing a pouch, they will cheer with love.
Throwing pouch is the expression of paying court to each other for fellows and girls. The girls throw the pouch to the fellow whom she loves. The pouches are flying with the wished for beautiful future and the heart admiring love.
The Water Splashing Festival (Water Spray Festival) is in the middle of April, so if you travel to Yunnan, April is the most suitable season.
The Water Splashing Festival in 2019 will be held on April 13, Saturday(the 9th day of the 3rd lunar month).
Brief Introduction
Wenshan Yanshan Airport(文山砚山机场) (Former Wenshan Puzhehei Airport)(IATA: WNH, ICAO: ZPWS), located in Wenshan City of Yunnan Province, with a total investment of more than 300 million yuan, is about 23 kilometers from the government seat of Wenshan city. Wenshan Puzhehei Airport is a civil airport in Yanshan County(砚山县) of Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. It is 9 kilometers from the county seat of Yanshan County, 23 kilometers from Wenshan City(the government seat of Wenshan Prefecture).
History
In August, 2000, the preliminary work was officially launched. On May 23, 2003, the State Council and the Central military Commission approved the project construction. Construction began on April 28, 2004, completed on Aug. 30, 2006, and put into operation on Sept. 1, with a total investment of 322.67 million yuan.

Jiangdong Village is adjacent to the Volcano Geo Park and the Prismatic Joint scenic spot of Tengchong County, western Yunnan Province. For long, the village has been depicted as “(gingko) trees are growing in homes, and homes are set under tress”. The village deserves to be called the Gingko Village because it abounds in about 33,000 gingko trees, of which some 270 are at least 200 years old. It is most likely the largest, most intensive, and most ancient gingko forest ever found in Yunnan Province. Nestling among mountains and cottages, these gingko trees have made the village more quaint and profound. During October and December, the ubiquitous golden gingko leaves turn Jiangdong Village into a fairyland.

The Jiangdong Ancient Gingko Village is located to the southeast of the Gudong town in the northern part of Tengchong County. It is called the ancient gingko village because there are over 2,000 mu of ancient gingko trees growing in the village. The village has 820 households and 3,773 villagers, the mean annual temperature of the village is 14.6 ℃ and the mean annual precipitation of the village is between 1,560 and 1,750 mm.
Because of the fertile and special volcanic ash soil of the village, the gingkoes produced in the village are “white and bright, fragrant and luscious, round and large” and belong to top-class gingkoes.
The village has a long gingko planting history. Currently, there are over 3,000 gingko trees growing in the village. Of them, 50 are over 500 years old and 70 are over 400 years old. In this village, the gingko is not only a kind of product but also represents “harmony.” So many gingko trees grow and thrive in front of and behind the farm houses. They are mild and kind, provide so much but ask for nothing.
From a long distance, visitors could see “the village is in the gingko woods and the gingko woods are in the village.” It is quite a unique sight. When the golden autumn comes, the ginkgo fruits will hang on the trees, the falling leaves will fly in the air and the small roads of the village will be fully covered by golden leaves. Villagers jokingly called these sights the “golden carpet” and “autumn decoration,” which are typical scenes of the county’s countryside tourist resources.

Drive westwards the Friendship way to Tingri County. On the way to Mount Everest you will pass the checking point with your TTB permit, travel permit and passport, and purchase the entrance of Everest Base Camp.
There is about 90km bumpy road from Tingri to Rongpuk, road is under construction. From Tingri to E.B.C with the very rough road, pass the wild grassland, cross the rapids river and high mountains. If it is in clear whether, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains which is 8000m high or more, such as: Mt. Lhotse(8516m), Mt. Everes(8848m), Mt. Cho Oyu(8201m),Mt. Mayalu(8463m). Early in the moring to see the sunrise from Rongbuk Monastery then to view Mt. Everest. It is fabulous and splendid. After walking arrive the place get on the animal carriage then use half of an hour arrive at Everest Base Camp ( Or you also can trekking to Base Camp around 1.5-2 hours one way. It’s interesting and much more warm, but hard to breath).
Hiking up to the top of the photo point to take pictures of the splendid- Mt. Everest. Then late in the afternoon around 13:00 go down from E.B.C back to Tingri by friend-ship highway back to Shigaste.

Pick-up at 7:30am, drive about 30KM to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain , you will take the sightseeing bus for a short visiting through the Baishuihe River, take the chairlift up to visit Spruce Meadow of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The cableway will be arranged according to the condition of the mountain. You will hike around1 hours in the original forest in Spruce Meadow.
After lunch, you will enjoy the Impression Lijang Ethnic Show (Regular seat ) directed in Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M). A cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place inside Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater specifically designed to showcase the mountain which is used as a backdrop. The production itself was designed by Zhang Yimou, Fan Yue and Wang Chaoge, a cast of over 500 people, and a number of horses.
After that, visit Baisha Town and Baisha Mural in the ancient capital of Naxi Kingdom in Baisha village.

The “2018 China Kunming Yi International Carnival and First Ancient Dian Torch Festival” kicked off Friday, drawing tens of thousands of Yi people.

Chengzi Village
Chengzi Village is unknown to public until the visit from CCTV for the recent years, but still few people have been there. It is 25 km from Luxi County, layered soil palm houses are the most prominent feature of the village. The roof of a neighbor’s house is another neighbor’s courtyard. In this place the neighborhood live in harmony, even doors are unbolted at night.

Recommended cuisine: do not miss the baked potato at Hengyuan Yitong Square, for it is a Luxi specialty, with a lot of spices. Besides cold chicken rice noodle is also good. Yuang Sheng Yuan Dining Room and Luxi Eight Bowls and Ancestral Home Cooking are recommended.
Section 2: Luxi to Mile
Keyi Village, Mile County
Address: 22 km from Mile County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (Keyi Village, Xisan Town)
Bus route: at the gate of Mile Grand Hotel, or the gate of Jinlong Hotel, or Ranweng road cross on Mile Avenue, take Bus No. 12 to Keyi Town (interval time of 15 to 30 minutes, ticket fare: 6 yuan).
Accommodation: it is recommended to take a single-family villa. A small villa has 5 rooms, and 7 rooms for a larger one. And the price is between 500 ~ 1000 yuan.
Food recommendation: Mile stewed chicken, stewed chicken rice noodle, mutton soup pot
Section 3: Mengzi – Mile
Mengzi
Mengzi is a green land on the tropic of cancer. the total trip from Mile to Mengzi is 149.95 km with roughly 2 hours drive.
Nanhu Lake
Yunnan’s Cross Bridge Rice Noodle origins from this place, and Nanhu Lake is located in Mengzi City, also called Grass Lake. It is named by the three mountains as Mt. Peng Lai, Mt. Abbot, Mt. Yingzhou. Willows all year round, green water ripples in Nanhu Lake, as if a scenery in fairyland.
Bise Village
One of the “Eighteen Strange Things in Yunnan”: “Train goes abroad rather than domestic and slower than car” is about this Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, passing through Bise Village, which is called as “Little Paris”.
Address: Caoba Town, Mengzi County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan
Ticket: 20 yuan for adult, and 10 yuan for child
Opening hours: 8:00-17:00
Accommodation: Bise Village is about 6 km from Caoba Town, 13 km from Mengzi County, which is the center of Honghe Prefecture. Only half hour’s drive can get you there. Accommodation in Mengzi County is recommended, for the condition is better, there are also various level and price of hotels for you to choose. Standard room price for three-star hotels is commonly between 140-200 Yuan. Also you can choose small hotels or hostels at lower prices, generally less than 100 yuan per day.
Food recommendation: Mengzi Cross Bridge Rice Noodle, Beef Cross Bridge Rice Noodle boiled in copper pot, Tofu.
Gejiu (Tin City)
As the past capital of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and as the two-thousand-year-old Tin City, Gejiu cannot be said as a tourism city. This is one of the routes to Yuanyang Rice Terraces, which takes about 45 minutes for 34.6 km from Mengzi to Gejiu.
Jiaji Village in Gejiu
Don’t miss out the pear flower during spring in Jiaji Village, Gejiu. In the evening you can enjoy the night scene of the so-called “Oriental Florence”, Asian “Venice” and China’s second “Little Hong Kong”, or drive to Shadian to visit the Shadian Grand Mosque with a reputation of “Little Mecca”.

Recommended cuisine: rice noodle, baked tofu, Geji[FS:Page]u barbecue. Gejiu’s barbecue operates very late in the night, and besides baked tofu, you can also enjoy baked potato, chives, pork, beef, cheese etc. Key recommendation: steamed rice roll dipped in special spicy sauce, mini kebab, mini rice flour, three-line minced meat cake, milk liquor and so on.
Section 4: Gejiu to Yuanyang
Yuanyang
It has about 53 km from Gejiu to Yuanyang which takes around 40 minutes. The perfect lines and colorful texture of Yuanyang Rice Terraces depend on the ingenious fusion of sunlight and sky together with the smart people living on this land.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces show the ever-changing, intoxicating beauty in different time and seasons. It is like a natural beauty girl, the four seasons changing only to suit her for a “harmonious” look.
It spreads in a slight dropping variance along the valley as the thousands of terrace stairs passing down for hundreds of thousands of miles.
Generally people start to transplant rice seedlings in May, to harvest in September and to irrigate in December. Therefore, the best visiting seasons are from October to March. And you will have the highest possibility to see the sea of clouds during the Spring Festival.
Food recommendation:
Yuanyang beef, baked tofu, field-snail (the meat of field-snail is fragrant and sweet) and the sour bamboo shoots boiled wih fish

1. Kunming Southern Bus Terminal Station: Kunming-Yuanyang, 139 yuan per person, 5-6 hours; Vans are available from Xinjie Town to the gate of the scenic spot, and from the gate to each scenic spot, fares are between 5 to 10 yuan.
2. You can also take a coach from Kunming to Jianshui or Gejiu, and then transfer to Yuanyang.
Car Charter: about 300 yuan to charter a car for one-day visit of the terraces, about 100 yuan to Laohuzui, and about 150-200 yuan for half-day to see sunrise at Duoyishu.
Ticket: 100 yuan per person (half-price discount is often offered: 50 yuan per person)
Section 5: Yuanyang – Jianshui
Jianshui County
It takes roughly 2 hours from Yuanyang to Jianshui (about 105 km). Jianshui Ancient City was called Lin’an in ancient time, which was built in the Tang Dynasty, thus having a long history of more than 1200 years. There are over 50 well-preserved exquisite ancient architectures in the city. Hence, names like a “museum of ancient buildings” and a “residence museum” have been given to the city.
The ancient city is not big, basically consists of several streets centering Lin’an Road. The most famous places in this ancient city are the Confucious Temple and the Zhu’s Family Garden. Besides, a lot of old buildings are worth a visit.

Train: 4 daily trips from Kunming to Mengzi will pass Jianshui, with a travel time over 3 hours. Out of the railway station, you can take Bus No. 919, which goes between the train station and the East Gate of Jianshui Ancient City
Car: Take a coach at the Long-Distance Coach Bus Station close to Kunming Railway Station. The coach bus to Shiping will pass Jianshui, with a travel time around 4 hours. Take the coach to Jianshui at the Kunming Nanyao Bus Terminal, the fare is around 80 yuan per person.
Bus No. 1, 13, and 15 etc. are travelling between the ancient city (East Gate or Zhu’s Family Garden) and the Jianshui Passenger Station. If you take a cab, it will only take you a start price.

Zhu’s Family Garden
Zhu’s Family Garden, located at Hanlin Street, Jianshui County, is the family house and ancestral hall built by Zhu Weiqin brothers in late Qing Dynasty. With the ancestral hall, living rooms, botanical garden as a whole in the gorgeous building, it gets a reputation of “Grand View Garden in South Yunnan”.
The main building consists of two parts: the residential area and the ancestral hall with a layout of “three vertical and four horizontal” lines, which is a typical compound townhouse residence in Jianshui. Rich and varied space landscape has countless changes, which look like a “maze”.

Jianshui Confucius Temple
Jianshui Confucius Temple, built in the Yuan Dynasty, has a history of over 600 years. Its current scale and buildings are well preserved, ranking No. 3 Confucius Temple after the Qufu Confucius Temple in Shandong and the Confucius Temple in Beijing.
The most attractive place in the Confucius Temple is undoubtedly the Dacheng Hall, which is the main part of the Confucius Temple, consisting of five lined halls and a central hall with dragon throne in it to worship the statue of Confucius.

Tuanshan Village, Jianshui County
Tuanshan Village is once the inhabited area for Yi people in the history. All buildings in the village sit west toward the east. With grey tile roofing, lime walls and blue bricks as dado, each house centers a courtyard. Doors are often at one side of the main building and the route to the center courtyard passes through various corridors.
There are 21 well-preserved Han nationality traditional dwelling houses and ancient buildings in Tuanshan Village. They are all numbered and have become the common homeland for countless families.

1. Yellow vans travel to Tuanshan Village are available at the Village Passenger Station out of the North Gate of Jianshui County. It costs around 5 yuan, with a travel time of about 30 minutes. Vans back to Jianshui can be found around the entrance of the East Gate of Tuanshan Village.
2. Take a taxi from Jianshui County to Tuanshan Village, about 50 yuan.
