佛图塔，俗称蛇骨塔，位于大理市下关镇苍山之麓马耳峰下羊坪（一作阳平）村佛图寺前。全国重点文物保护单位。
据考蛇骨塔建于南诏晚期，稍晚于大理三塔，典型唐代建筑风格。塔高三十点零七米，底边各长四点五米，方型十三级密檐式砖塔，青铜葫芦宝顶，与崇圣寺大塔极似。现存塔西一明代石碑载，明建文四年（1402）曾重修。到明万历元年（1573）塔遭雷击，正西从塔顶到培根裂开五寸多，不到三天塔又自行复合。两年后重修过。
蛇骨塔传为西印度无忧王遣使臣张罗迟所修，无史迹可证不太可信。蛇骨塔是云南唐代少数建筑宝贵遗物之一。
1981年5月，政府拨款对该塔进行了全面维修，在塔刹基座出土文物52件，各种海贝、珍珠100多粒，经卷47件，对研究大理的佛教艺术提供了珍贵的实物资料。
1983年1月，被云南省人民政府公布为第二批省级重点文物保护单位；2006年5月25日，又被国务院公布为第六批全国重点文物保护单位。

佛图寺塔高30.7米，是十三层的四方形密檐式空心砖塔，塔刹为铜宝相顶，塔基为上下两层，用青石砖砌成。塔的第一层至第四层塔檐高度基本相同，每级60至70厘米。第五层至十二层高度基本一致，每层约50至55厘米。塔身中空，直通十二层。塔门为方形洞门，门用横木作梁，这是南诏时期古塔的特色之一。
史志与传说：
明万历乙亥年(1575)《重修佛图塔记》所载：“大理城南二十里阳和山之麓，右有寺，名曰佛图寺，之外有塔十三级，盖以应佛图之大观也。”
相传南诏时，在阳平村附近有一条巨蟒，经常吞食人畜、糟踏庄稼，害得附近百姓无法生活。段赤诚决心为民除害，他全身扛满利刃，手持两把利剑，来到蟒蛇洞前，大蟒张开血盆大口，将他一口吞入腹内，他趁机在蟒腹内滚动挑刺，经过一番生死搏斗，巨蟒被刺死，段赤诚也死于蟒腹。白族人民为了纪念这位为民除害的英雄，在他牺牲的地方，用蛇骨烧成灰，修建了这座灵塔，并在旁边修建了一座段赤诚的衣冠墓。墓碑上刻着“唐义士段赤诚之墓”。至今，蛇骨塔仍屹立于苍洱之间。
