The Journey: Our journey began in the morning as we gathered at the Bada Village, which is situated at an altitude of around 1,200 meters above sea level. The villagers here are primarily from the Hani ethnic group, known for their colorful traditional dress and vibrant festivals. We were welcomed with a traditional tea ceremony before setting off on our adventure.
As we started hiking, we were surrounded by lush green forests, rice fields, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail was challenging, but the fresh air and the breathtaking scenery made the journey worth it. Our experienced guide led us through the tricky sections, ensuring our safety and making sure we captured the best moments along the way.
After a few hours of hiking, we reached the Xiding Village, which is located at an altitude of around 1,800 meters above sea level. Welcome to our 4-day hiking tour to Niru Village, Nanbao Pasture and Qicai Waterfall in Shangrila!
Day 1: Arrival in Shangrila
Our journey began with a flight to Shangrila, a small town located in the northwestern part of Yunnan Province. We arrived in the early morning and checked into our accommodations at a local hotel.
After a quick rest, we set out to explore the town of Shangrila and its surrounding areas. We visited the local market, where we saw a variety of fresh produce and local souvenirs.
Day 2: Hiking to Niru Village
In the morning, we met our guide and set out for our hike to Niru Village. The hike started with a gentle climb up a mountain, and as we climbed higher, we could see breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
After about 3 hours of hiking, we arrived at Niru Village. We visited the local museum, which offered insight into the region’s history and culture. We also stopped by the local school, where we met some of the students and learned about their lives in the village.
Day 3: Nanbao Pasture and Qicai Waterfall
Today, we woke up early and set out for our hike to Nanbao Pasture and Qicai Waterfall. The hike started with a climb up a mountain, and as we climbed higher, we could see breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
After about 2 hours of hiking, we arrived at Nanbao Pasture, where we saw a variety of wildlife, including sheep, cows, and horses. We also stopped by a local tea garden, where we learned about the region’s famous tea industry.
After lunch, we continued our hike to Qicai Waterfall. The waterfall was located at the end of a valley, and we had to cross a river to get there. The waterfall was stunning, and we spent some time taking pictures and enjoying the scenery.
Day 4: Departure from Shangrila
Our journey in Shangrila came to an end as we boarded our flight back home. We left the region with memories of stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and delicious food.

Exploring Luoping was a great way to enjoy natural sights. We had a wonderful time in Luoping and overall Exploration did a super job making our trip great. All of tour guides were punctual, enthusiastic and patient and our drives were great. My favorite tour guide was Lina, she always helped us as many as her can. Lina introduced the local culture what her knew for us with great patience.
We arrived at Luoping on February, the farmlands were covered in golden rapeseed flowers and it expanding as far as we can see. We were bathed in the warming sunshine with the fresh air. when you take a deep breath, you will find you state a pleasure and relaxing world. We saw rapeseed flowers on a mountain slope at Niu Street. The rapeseed flowers looked like golds in the fields. I roamed around the fields in complete forgetfulness of time and walked across fields of ideas under a sparkling crystal sky of inspiration. I enjoyed the tranquility of village life.
We will definitely introduce Exploration to our friends as we were satisfied with everything.

Yunnan, a place where is remote, pure and primeval. It always attracts so many people to visit. In ancient history, centralized bureaucrat can’t govern it. A remote frontier area where different national minority inhabit together. Here, the culture of mysterious and obscure character. It is hidden and isolated in between long river and high mountains. Above features make Yunnan with full of magic color. And this time we bring to you is Yunnan place with odd index digit, east Yunnan and southeast Yunnan.
Photography destination recommendation
Yunnan: east Yunnan, southeast Yunnan or Donchuan, Luoping, Puzhehei and Yuanyang.
Hot spots recommendation, an artistic photography paradise. Spring to March, there is Luoping rape flower, a visual feast. Spots route is convenient; the distance between each place is short. Shutterbug always chooses taxi or self-driving. Departure from Kunming, the first station is Dongchuan red land, which is about 3 hours ride. There is ripping wheat during April to May. Buckwheat rape is during September to December. Left snow is during February to march.
When you arrive in Luoping with 0.8 million mu(about 13.16 acres) rape flower, Karst landform is very fascinating. On the way to Yuanyang pass by Luliang colored sand forest that you can enjoy your photography.Yuanyang rice terrace, Laohuzui sunset, the clay forest in Yuanmou, and Zhaotong Dabao Mountains（昭通大包山） all are famous shoot spots.

You can try these activities in this route. The first one is hiking adventure, it is suitable for primary hikers to wander, Yuanyang rice terraces and Dongchuan red land.
The next one is Bird watching. The best time for bird watching is November to next year march. There are many rare animals in Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Zhaotong Dashanbao, .for instance, black necked crane.
The third one is drift. There are many large rivers in Yunnan province cause of three parallel rivers. You can enjoy driftting in Luoping.
The last one is photography. Here with the high visiting rate in spring all over the county, with the most classic photography line and the most suitable season.
The first station
Dongchuan red land (东川红土地)
Transportation, the whole journey about 179.8km, 2hours and 42mins. It is subordinated to Dongchuan district in Kunming. You can take bus at north bus terminal of Kunming. It starts at 6:45am and end in 19:50pm. Basically, every 10 minis has a ride. When you arrive at village bus station, you can take the special bus to visit Dongchuan red land. There are also some private cars on business, you can use it if you discussing a reasonable price and sure the safety.
Shoot spot, the scenery spot is scattered, north – west – line, north line and south line. Colorful stone village, the center of the whole red land. It can be your base area for following few days’ travel.

1.Langdadi(浪大地), tiers of terraced fields like windblown wave.
2.Jingxiuyuan（锦绣园）, where planning potato flower , buckwheat flower etc.colorful crops. All kinds of color lump with different shades.
3.Qicaipo（七彩坡）, it is 3.5km away from colorful stone village, and different soil in different line on the hillside.
4.Damakan（打马砍）, in the north most, there are some farm houses that smoke from kitchen chimneys with an artistic beauty when they cooking. it is suitable for sunset cameral.
Northeast shooting point
Luoxiagou（落霞沟）, in spring, farmers transplanting and watering in field, the terraced lines are fascinating and dreamy. It various according to wind direction, cloud layer, sunshine, plant and visual change. What strong stereo it is.
Yueliang Mountain（月亮山）, gorge landscape and terraced wetland landscape are well- integrated within abundant layers.

It is a mysterious tree of thousands years. And Countless cobblestones here and there.
Southern shot point
Yuepuao（乐谱凹）, A Varity of views in a year, changing seasons and never repeat the same view. Different view in everywhere, like the colorful note.
Wafangliangzi（瓦房梁子）, go along with the Yuepuao and you can get there. With elevated land that can offering the best panoramic view of the whole mountain. Nearby is Luosiwan.(螺丝湾)
Tips, A good spot for photography around the world. The red land opens all the sights in 24 hours. You may tread the farm land if you want to get a better shooting angle and you may pay for it, the fee of treading the ground.please understand it.
The sanitary conditions are so good that you can check in happily. We suggest hiring cars instead of self-driving that you can enjoy photographing and keep good energy.

The second station
Luoping rape flower（罗平油菜花）
Transportation, there is no need to worry about traffic there, it is very convenient. The train station away from the county about 1.5 km. it takes about 10miniues from train station to the down town, Zhenxing Street （振兴街）by motor tricycle. And there are special vehicle to each spot in Luoping bus stop (except Lubuge gorges（鲁布革三峡）). And the stations carry out rolling system, when the car is full and go. You also can take a bus on the road at ease.
Shooting, Jinjifeng（金鸡峰）,which is core scenic area of Luoping peak forest. You can take a picture of sunrise in the morning. February to March is blooming season , there are 0.2 million mu rape flowers, very spectacular.
Jiulong waterfall（九龙瀑布）, the Bouyei nationality, the local people call it as “Da Die Shui”, the river is rocky with rocks and the river is very different in depth.
Luositian（螺丝田）, it is hidden in the mountains, a photography blockbuster and a preference to newspapers. The rape flowers form graceful stripes and geometric patterns.
Duoyi River（多依河）,here are ancient wood , tall bamboo, clear spring and water fall. And there are also some Duoyi villages and bamboo rafting activities.
Tips, from spring to late March is the best time to travel in Luoping. Here with convenient transportation and everything natural can be a scene. The highway was well-built and very new. It across fields that you can savor the magnificent landscape well and felt quite shocked.
The third station
Puzhehei（普者黑）
Transportation, it is located in Qiubei County, Wenshan autonomous prefecture. It is one of the brightest tourist cards in the state of Wenshan. Leaving Luoping for Qiubei with asphalt road and it is in good condition.
Shooting point
Shuangjiashan wharf（双甲山码头）.It is the first checkpoint and tourists always choose the following ways to travel , sightseeing boat and bamboo raft.
Fair cave（仙人洞）, from folk custom to every kind of facilities on the street, all of them is the original characteristics of Yi.
Dawan wet land （大湾湿地）, shooting bamboo reflection and sunset.
Jinsuo Mountains（金锁山） , it is an excellent location where you can see the panoramic view. Rivers and lakes are here and there .windy waterways around the green hills and here with the highest probability of making large films of sunset. it is fun to see the light of lake and people.
Qinglong mountains（青龙山）, it is the highest peak of Puzhehei. The best place to shoot the sunrise, sunset and idyllic scenery. Huoba cave and Guanyin cave are here. Guanyin cave with many people burn incense and worship god there.
Tips, the karst lake group, the cave group and the Gufeng group are unique scenery of China’s landscape. It is a pity to refuse visiting here. Rafting on the lake, the water is crystal clear and the summer lotuses are blooming, which is a feast of eyes. How comfortable it is. If you wouldn’t like to participate in the water war, you can hang a flag with refusing character. Vice versa, if you manna a fire. And you should better take more simple clothes to change in case of drenched. Come here; don’t be forget to savor fresh shrimp, little fish that catches timely and lotus package chicken, etc tasty dishes of local specialties.
The fourth station ，Yuan yang Hani rice terrace（元阳哈尼梯田）
Transportation, Yuanyang new county in the Nansha town, where is more than 30km away from Yuanyang terrace, about an hour’s mountain road ride. New street town is in old county town. The new street is closer to the Yuanyang terrace. You can choose your base area according to your luggage or preference.
Shooting point, after a day’s trip, there are more travelers to Yuanyang in the evening, all of them choose to shoot sunset here. The mountain is the most steep and magnificent.
Duoyishu（多依树）, here is the best place to watch the sunrise .it stands at 1900meters. Morning glow, sea of clouds, terrace, and Thorpe and morning air all add radiance and beauty to each other. That is of poetry and grand.
Aitian village（爱田村）, it is newly excavated by locals and few people knows that. Some kindly drivers will bring you here. The blue terraces are beautiful and the clouds float under your feet, like a fairy land.
Qingkou village （箐口村）, the best place to photograph Hani humanities. Such as, mushroom house, village god forest, aqueduct, water mill, national costumes, harrow and weaving machine, etc.
Bada terrace （坝达梯田）, the number of terrace is large and wide . There are 3700 layer terrace, an ultimate visual shock.

One of the most interesting aspects of a traditional Yunnan wedding is the “drinking of three cups of wine” ceremony. This ceremony involves the bride and groom drinking three cups of wine together, symbolizing their commitment to each other and their willingness to share everything.

Few days ago, our guests had the privilege of attending a Traditional Yunnan ceremonial Wedding in Dongchuan, it’s been a great experience to see the authentic culture and traditions ,and will always find a way shine through. That’s in a break for our overview in Dongchuan landscape sightseeing.
They are really welcome and nice people for the overwhelming kindness. The journey getting there was laughable, the wedding day itself was awesome, and the trip back to the city was also laughable.
I’ve attached few pictures below that Celeste and I shot, hopefully it’ll give you a glimpse of what a traditional ethnic minority wedding looks and feels like. it was an adventure not to be forgotten for our trip in Yunnan, the food, the Traditional Red color, the beautiful and unique bride, all these will become a beautiful leave memory in Red land Dongchuan.
I’m from Tonghai,a county located in the middle south of Yunnan Province.For a local like me,Xiushan mountain is like a shining star in the sky,a bright pearl inlaid in the peaceful land inhabited by Han and many minorities like Yi,Dai,Hui and Mongols.The scenery here has been appealing to people nearby and I’m one of them. The landscape here looks like a beautiful picture. In the front, Qilu Lake has shining glistening lights of waves. In the middle, the houses in the county look dignified. And Xiushan Moutain behind appears green. It is characterized South Yangtze River scene.
Xiushan park is a large temple park in the style of China’s famous Holy Mountains, set on Xiushan mountain, overlooking Tonghai city and Qilu lake. Its total lack of cable cars, souvenir stalls and tourists make this park easily one of the most pleasant and laid- back in Ch
ina. Those relatively few monks and pilgrims there are, earnestly pray and leave offerings for the gods, simple yet beautiful gifts of flowers, rice, candles and incense. Meanwhile, the locals sip tea and play Mah-jong, Chinese chess and cards in the courtyards of the temples. Minimalist Bonsai gardens and ancient, gnarled trees of a variety of species, such as camellias, cypresses or firs, many of them held up by metal bars, add beauty and a kind of timeless charm to the place. Besides trees, dragons are the protagonists of the park, either wrapping their bodies around pillars, cavorting above doorways, or splashing in fountains. All in all, it’s a lush and peaceful place.foreigner visitors still attract the curiosity of the locals in these parts.
In Xiushan Mountain, the tre
es are luxuriant and well-spaced. It is a deep and quiet place with static temperature. You can see various flowers on the tree in spring, moving shadows of the tree in summer, whistling red leaves in fall and peculiar branches in winter. The mountain has different trees in different areas. At the north foot of the mountain, the green bamboo forests look like curtains. Walking along the rough passage, the light is quite dim even in the daytime. On the northwest mountainside, the green pines cover the sky and make it a extremely quiet place. On the west side, the mountain is covered by jungle and brushwood, which is an untraversed, peaceful and isolated region. The cedars and chestnuts are distributed in the east of the mountain, where the trees are so green and luxu
riant that it is a best place for living in seclusion or strolling along. On the south of the mountain, the old and young pines look like moving green covers. The sound is ceaseless and you can find the amusement of listening to the sounds tastefully.
One of my biggest hobbies is trying the delicious food of all kinds,so you can call me a foodie or gourmet as you like.And of course,I know a lot of authentic delicacies and today I’m going to take you to taste the the Cross Bridge Rice Noodles.Having originated in Mengzi County of Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, the Cross Bridge Rice Noodles dish boasts a history of more than 100 years. With continuous renovation by chefs specializing in Yunnan Cuisine, the dish has enjoyed growing fame both at home and abroad, and every visitor to Yunnan should definitely try the famous snack besides taking in the breathtaking natural scenery.
Yunnan’s most famous dish is definitely across the bridge noodles. The story behind the rice noodle dish basically goes that a scholar retired to an island in Mengzi to study for the imperial exams. His wife would bring him lunch every day by crossing a bridge but by the time she got there his food would be cold. She discovered that keeping a layer of oil on top of a bowl of soup would keep the broth hot enough for him to cook the ingredients when she arrived.
many ingredientsThe dish, just like the story, has numerous variations but the basic elements remain the same. Many restaurants in Kunming will offer you the dish at different price levels, the more you pay the more (and more expensive) ingredients you get.
chrysanthemum Before the meal, a bowl of hot soup, a bowl of rice modles, some slices of meat, fresh vegetable slices and some other ingredients are to be prepared. The soup is the most important, which is boiled from chicken, duck and pig bones. It is rather hot although there is no steam flowing from it. When these are ready, first put in the raw meat slices and stir them till they are done; then put in the ingradients, vegetable slices and rice noodles. It is delicious as the meat is very tender.

I recently embarked on a journey to Lijiang, a place where the hands of time gently cradle the echoes of the past. Amidst the trio of ancient towns that make up the World Cultural Heritage site—Dayan, Shuhe, and Baisha—it was the latter that captured my soul.
The Enchanting Baisha Murals
Baisha, with its lesser-known murals, was my first stop. These artistic treasures, steeped in religious and cultural symbolism, showcase a fusion of Daoist, Buddhist, and Tibetan lore, reflecting a time when spiritual life was the essence of existence.
A Market of Serenity
Stepping out from the murals, I found myself amidst a stretch of stalls, a stark contrast to the crowded bazaars of Dayan and Shuhe. Here, the air was still, punctuated only by the soft haggling over local crafts—embroidered cushions, hand-dyed cloths, and the tinkling of bells. Each item seemed to hold a story, a piece of Baisha’s soul.
Boutique Inns and Artisanal Mastery
The guesthouses in Baisha exude an elegance that surpasses many of those in Lijiang Old Town. They are not just places to stay; they are sanctuaries of peace, designed in the traditional Naxi style, offering a boutique experience that whispers luxury and tradition in the same breath.
A Tapestry of Traditional Crafts
Baisha is renowned for its textiles—vibrant cloths dyed in indigo, adorned with patterns that speak of ancient tales and traditions. Walking the streets, I was greeted by lines of such cloth, fluttering like flags of a bygone kingdom, each a canvas of local artisans’ mastery.
Cafés and Conversations
The cafés here are picturesque, each one a vignette of serenity, inviting passersby to capture their beauty in photographs or simply to sit and savor the moment. The locals, with a better grasp of English, are ambassadors of their heritage, eager to share stories over a cup of tea or a meal.
A Haven of Peace and History
Baisha may be small, but its streets and structures are dense with history. It’s a place that demands a leisurely pace, to be explored with an open heart and eyes for detail. While some may say “there is nothing there,” they miss the point entirely—for in Baisha, “nothing” is everything.
The Baisha Holiday Resort: A Homage to Naxi Architecture
My stay at the Baisha Holiday Resort became the highlight of my trip. The Naxi traditional house, with its timber and earth construction and the ‘three rooms with one screen wall’ layout, was a lesson in architectural harmony. The resort was a testament to the Naxi’s love for nature, with gardens that bloomed with life and color.
Life in Baisha: A Portrait of Contentment
Waking up in Baisha was like waking up in a dream. The sun greeted you, the birds sang for you, and the flowers bloomed just for you. The proximity to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain made it all the more surreal, as if the sacred peak watched over you, imparting ancient wisdom.
Starry Nights and Floral Days
As the day melted into night, the sky in Baisha became a canvas painted with stars. Sitting on a swing, I found myself lost in the cosmos, enveloped by the fragrance of chrysanthemums, roses, and camellias.
Baisha: A Respite for the Soul
Baisha is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Lijiang, a sanctuary for those seeking to escape the relentless pace of the world. It’s a place where you rediscover the essence of life, where every breath is a reminder of the beauty that exists when the world slows down.
In Baisha, I found not just the peace I sought, but also a connection to the earth and its rhythms that was both humbling and profound. It’s a place that doesn’t just dwell in the past; it carries the past forward, cradling it in the present for all who seek its wisdom.
