2019 CITM China International Travel Mart in Kunming
China International Travel Mart 2018 (CITM 2018) was held successfully at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from November 16 to 18, 2018. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China (MCT), the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. It was organized by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and Beijing Sunny Communications Ltd. Spread over a total exhibition area of 57,500 square meters, CITM 2018 featured 2,245 booths, including 1,542 domestic and 707 overseas booths, accounting for 69 percent and 31 percent of the total booths, respectively.
Domestic and overseas tourism institutions participated in CITM 2018 with great enthusiasm, making the fair an arena for domestic and overseas tourism enterprises to promote their image, features, and products.
Among the domestic exhibitors, local tourism departments (bureaus) integrated their unique styles, characteristics, and folk customs into booth design and ardently promoted their respective tourism lines. In addition, globally renowned Chinese enterprises, such China National Travel Service Group, OCT, Chimelong Group, and Tuniu, registered their strong presence at the event. Meanwhile, the overseas exhibition zone attracted a multitude of overseas exhibition groups from South Korea, Japan, the U.S., and other countries, to promote their characteristic tourism products.
Firstly, CITM 2018 maintained a high degree of internationalization. International tourism organizations, such as South Pacific Tourism Organization, ASEAN Secretariat, and ASEAN-China Centre, participated in the event.
Secondly, CITM 2018 aimed at hot industrial issues and improved transactions. It focused on the new situation, characteristics, and trends of tourism development. To improve its tourism transaction function, it offered online reservation and negotiation service.
Thirdly, CITM 2018 presented a number of colorful promotional activities. Apart from conventional tourism presentations and promotions, Chinese provinces and autonomous regions, including Sichuan and Xinjiang, as well as representatives from various countries and international organizations, including Indonesia, Eutour United, Malaysia, South Korea, Serbia, Thailand, and Qatar, presented their distinctive presentations for promoting tourism on the venue’s central stage.
The MCT highly praised CITM 2018, which also received industry-wide recognition. It maintained its position as Asia’s largest tourism exhibition in terms of level and influence, laying a solid foundation for a successful CITM 2019.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and People’s Government of Yunnan Province, organized by Yunnan Provincial Tourism Development Commission, and operated by Beijing Sunny International Communications Ltd. China International Travel Mart 2017 (CITM) was a great success on November 17-19, 2017 at Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center. Altogether 71 countries and regions participated in the event, taking up a total of 1,663 booths. Among them, Chinese booths amounted to 1,316, about 79% of the total, while overseas booths were 347, 21% of the total.
Chinese and overseas travel agencies have shown great enthusiasm for the event, which becomes a showground for them to publicize their images and own featured tourism routes and products. This CITM introduced eye-opening special tourism exhibition areas for All Regions, revolutionary bases, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai-Anhui Region, the Maritime Silk Road, the Silk Road, etc. In addition, overseas exhibition areas attracted a number of large-sized exhibitors from Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, etc. As China has now become the top source of tourists, overseas exhibitors have resorted to various publicity means to promote their own characteristic tourist products.
China International Travel Mart 2017 has been elevated to a higher level with its improved professionalism, market orientation and global influence. As exhibitors of more diverse sectors join the event, CITM has secured an even wider industrial coverage.
CITM has become a professional platform for promotion of tourism brands and products. During the event, exhibitors have held more than 30 professional tourism promotions with sound publicity effects. CITM also sets up a professional negotiation area of 1,200 square meters for about 600 overseas travel agencies. Sellers can engage in face-to-face talks with them by making an appointment or through introduction.
The event has attracted exhibitors from a full range of segments of the tourism industry. In addition to governments at all levels, tourism agencies, travel agencies, hotels, tourist attractions, airlines including such large entities as Air China, Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Sichuan Airlines, cruises, travel websites and internet marketing companies, as well as largest tourism groups like China National Travel Service Group Corporation, Overseas Chinese Town, and Chimelong Group, showed up in the event.
CITM has maintained its high global coverage and influence as usual. Overseas tourism institutions, including exhibition groups from Thailand, Singapore and South Korea, have made a grand appearance in the event. International tourism organizations, including South Pacific Tourism Organization, Pacific Asia Travel Association, ASEAN Secretariat, and ASEAN-China Center also participated in CITM.
Given the fact that markets of Southwestern China have entered the limelight of the tourism world, CITM this time has maintained the large scale and extensive influence as previous events, and was highly recognized by industry professionals from home and abroad. China International Travel Mart 2018 will be held on November 16- 18, 2018 at Shanghai New International Expo Center. By then, Chinese and overseas tourism industry players will gather in Shanghai for exchanging the development trend of the international tourism and sharing ideas about new types of tourism.
China International Travel Mart (hereinafter referred as CITM) has been successfully inaugurated at Shanghai New International Expo Center, from November 11 to 13,2016. Co-hosted by China National Tourism Administration, Civil Aviation Administration of China and People’s Government of Shanghai City, this big event is presented by Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration, with Beijing Sunny Int’l Communications Ltd engaged as the official operator. The session of CITM has been brought into focus, largely on back of exhibitors in growing number. It encompasses around 106 countries and regions, in a total of 1088 exhibitors assembled at the SNIEC, of whom 598 are domestic, 80 come from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and around 410 are overseas; the sum of booths is 2953 available, among which, domestic booths are 1813 (roughly 70% of the total), foreign ones 780 booths(30% of the total), and the rest are raw space booths, numbered 2224(about 85.7% of the total).
Exhibitors and Buyers Networking
The 2015 China International Travel Mart lasted three days, involving 105 countries and regions and 3087 exhibition booths, with an exhibition area of 70,000 square meters, the largest ever. Among them, there are 2677 domestic exhibitions and 410 international exhibitions. The industry categories of exhibitors continue to diversify, and the industry covers a wider range.
The 2015 China International Travel Mart, focusing on the theme of “Silk Road Tourism”, deepens the connotation of tourism diplomacy, expands the space for tourism cooperation, develops tourism industry chain cooperation and promotes platform effect by organizing a series of activities such as multilateral meetings of tourism ministers, Sino-Indian tourism forum, professional promotion and professional negotiation.
CITM has witnessed the development of tourism. It is not only a remarkable symbol of China’s integration with the world’s tourism, but also a grand event of China’s diplomatic tourism.
There were 23 Deputy ministerial guests from Belarus, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Tonga, South Africa, Hungary and Cambodia, as well as more than 130 overseas VIPs from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Asia-Pacific Tourism Association and South Pacific Tourism Organization.
The CITM 2014, jointly sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration, Civil Aviation Administration of China and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from November 14 to 16, 2014. The CITM 2014 covered an area of 57,500 square meters, attracted the exhibitors from 106 countries and regions and had 2,427 exhibition booths, including 1,491 domestic booths and 936 overseas booths. There were a total of 278 exhibitors, of which 206 were overseas exhibitors; and the buyers numbered over 1,200, of which 850 were invited overseas buyers, and 350 were overseas private buyers. The United States served as the Guest of Honor.
The CITM 2014 made remarkable achievements. During the mart, 4.85 million copies of promotion materials were distributed; about 3,600 contracts were signed; and the total number of the people under contracts registered about five million. During the two professional days on November 14 and 15, about 18,000 Chinese and foreign tourism-related people were present; and on the public open day on November 16, over 30,000 citizens visited the mart. It totally received over 80,000 visitors during the mart.
All the related foreign and domestic sectors attached great importance to the CITM. During the mart, the China National Tourism Administration and the UN World Tourism Organization jointly organized the China International Tourism Forum 2014, at which the development opportunities of China’s tourism and the development future of the world tourism were explored and discussed.
Overseas honored guests actively participated in the mart. The delegates from tourism departments of 31 countries, such as the Republic of Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Laos, the United States, Russia, Croatia, etc. and some international organizations such as the UN World Tourism Organization and the South Pacific Tourism Organization and 30-plus overseas VIP groups from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had attended the mart. Among them, there were 7 honored guests of minister rank and 19 of vice minister rank.
Science and technology were mixed with tourism more closely. The year of 2014 is the “Year of Wisdom Tourism”. In the year, the scientific and technological information was integrated with tourism more tightly; the use of the new media showed the new normal in the marketing of the tourism brands; and more new products were promoted. All the exhibition booths made a good use of the wisdom means to promote their new products, and the CITM New Media Marketing Center was set up, providing technologies and a platform for the promotion of the brands, products and travel routes of the exhibitors through network live broadcast, non-interview live broadcast, special topic show, on-site interaction and other dissemination modes.
The characteristics of the local cultures were shown more prominently. Both overseas and domestic exhibitors vied with each other for promoting their “local cultures”. They displayed their local cultural traditions through the decoration of their booths and promotion materials, the costumes of their staff members and their promotion programs, presenting a strong visual impact and spiritual shock at the mart.
A large number of online and offline activities and forums were organized. The Organizing Committee of the CITM 2014 held a large number of activities to enrich the mart’s contents. The “Night of Beautiful China”, a tourism presentation with “Explore Beautiful China along the Silk Road” as the theme, was held at the Shanghai Kerry Center on November 13. The sponsor displayed the glamour of civilization, the enthusiastic vitality and the boundless potentials of beautiful China and the Silk Road to the overseas and domestic guests with a wonderful activity which integrated oriental characteristics with fashionable elements. The China International Tourism Forum 2014 and other professional talks were also held during the mart.
CITM 2013 covered an area of over 50,000 sq m, involving 2,359 exhibition booths, which attracted the exhibitors from 102 countries and regions. These figures were higher than those of CITM 2011 held in Kunming. Of the total exhibition booths, 1,941 were domestic and 418 overseas, accounting for 17.7 percent, being over 2,000 units of exhibitor in total. Overseas buyers showed great interest in the mart, and over 1,000 of them, both invited and private, from the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United States, Europe and other countries and regions, took part in various trade talks during the mart. Meanwhile, professional categories of the exhibitors kept diversified, and continued to expand even wider.
To further enhance the influence of CITM and build a better exchange and trade platform for travel industry at home and abroad, the Organizing Committee of CITM 2013 made special arrangements as follows.
CITM 2013 invited over 200 domestic and foreign media to cover the news of the travel mart, such as CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Central People’s Broadcasting Station, China Radio International, and China Tourism News. To make full use of New media to promote the mart, the Organizing Committee took “Beautiful China” as the theme to cooperate with the relevant network media, and made video interviews with the responsible persons from domestic and foreign tourism administrative departments and tourism enterprises, and published timely information of the mart through the portals, Microblog, Wechat and other social media to real-timely interact with internet users.
CITM 2013 continued to promote the exhibition in combination with sales, and encourage all the provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and tourism enterprises to make on-site preferential and discount sales of their tourist products on October 26 and 27. Lotour and other websites actively promoted their on-line products at their booths. In addition, the Organizing Committee continued to bestow the “Marketing Innovation Award” on the provinces and tourism enterprises with outstanding marketing achievements.
Organizing various large activities to deepen the international communication and cooperation. During the CITM, the Organizing Committee organized China International Tourism Branding & Marketing Seminar, Business Talks, the special presentation of the Central and East European countries, the summary and evaluation meeting by the Organizing Committee, the “Night of Taiwan” and other promotion activities to further deepen the communication and cooperation between the tourist industries at home and abroad.
