Top Souvenirs and Local Specialities in Xishuangbanna
Xishuangbanna is paradise for tropical fruits, people can enjoy fresh fruits all year round, su as banana, pineapple, mango, plum, grapefruit, carambola, sweetsop, jackfruit and passionflower. The biggest fruit there is jackfruit, which may weigh more than 30 kilograms. Another peculiar fruit is passionflower (also known as “fruit with a hundred kinds of fragrance”). Fruit of passionflower is delicate and juicy. There are also dried fruit products available in stores and markets, they are the best choice for taking away.
Ethnic people in Xishuangbanna like wearing silver ornaments such as hairpin, earring, chaplet, bracelet, armlet, plastron, anklet, finger ring and waistband. The two main streams of the silver ornaments are Dai style and Hani style. The traditional silver ornaments used to be hand-made but now factories are set up to produce local golden, silver ornaments and jewelry according to national standard. You should buy them in licenced stores, particularly when you are buying Jewelries.
As the Kingdom of Plants, Xishuangbanna is home to rare medicinal herbs. among which, Xiejie (Sanguis Draconis), also known as Qilingsha in Chinese, is the most famous. It is used in the Chinese medicine to treat injuries from falls, fractures, contusions and strains, to relieve the pain from rheumatism and to treat some gynecological diseases.
Xishuangbanna is the home of China’s famous Puer tea.The six most major Chinese Puer tea mountains are all located in Xishuangbanna. The Xishuangbanna broad-leaf tea can be made into black tea and green tea. The former looks fresh and watery and fragrant while the latter looks fine and thin with crystal green color in the water. The most noted categories of the Puer Tea include: Nanno Pekoe, Yunhai Pekoe, Ganglu Tea, Fuxiang Tea, Xuanyun Tea. You can Puer tea in stores and teahouses, Jinglan “Tea City” and Gaozhuang Xishuangjing are the places dotted with tea shopes and tea houses.
Women of Dai, Hani, Laku, and Jino weave cloth by themselves, and have the tradition of embroidering the clothes of their own. Therefore, brocade and embroidery with local ethnic characteristics are also favored by visitors.
Arabica Coffee is a peculiar category in Xishuangbanna. The full-bodied coffee has sweet aftertaste, which is quite different from those produced in the tropical Africa.
Black pottery is the traditional handwork product of the Dai minority nationality. Local black pottery wares include earthen jug, jar, vase, smoking set, tea set and so on. They are carved delicately with patterns of primitive simplicity, which makes they perfect souvenirs.

Recent aerial photos show the construction of Yuxi-Mohan railway, which makes an essential part of the China-Laos railway, is in full swing in the south of Yunnan province.
Via Laos, the 507.4-kilometer railway could be furthered extended to some other ASEAN nations of Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in the future.
As of the end of April 2019, the railway project consumed 29.4 billion yuan, accounting for 58.3% of the estimated total investment of 51.6 billion yuan.
The railway is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2021, giving impetus to success of the China-ASEAN free trade area.

Zhonghe Temple(中和寺) is named after the Zhonghe Peak of Cangshan, built on the mountainside of Zhonghe Peak. It was once crowned by the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Built in Ming Dynasty, it is one of the famous Taoist temples in Dali. On the 9th day of the first lunar month, the “Songhuahui” of the Taoist which is a activity to offer sacrifice to Jade Emperor is the grandest temple fair of Zhonghe Temple. Enjoying the continuous pilgrims, the fair lasts for more than 10 days. Due to its special location, it is the best place to overlook the landscape of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake.
There is tourism cableway in Mt. Cangshan. Next station is located in west of a racetrack in Dali March Street, and the previous station is Zhonghe Temple. Travelers also can choose to climb Cangshan Mountain.
By Bus: No.4, 9 Bus is available from Dali Old Town to Gantong Temple Station and walk about 2 kilometers to Lower Station of Gantong Cableway. There are direct sightseeing buses running between Dali Old Town and Ximatan Cableway / Gantong Cableway.
By Bike: Rent bicycles in the old town and get out of Cangshan Gate and ride another 1 kilometer to the foot of Cangshan Mountain.
By Walk: Get out of South Gate and walk west along Yita Road for about 1.9 kilometers or get out of Cangshan Gate (West Gate) and walk along about 1 kilometer to the footpath
Zhonghe Temple was built in the Nanzhao Kingdom of Tang Dynasty(AD 738-902) firstly. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1522 ~ 1566), it was rebuilt. To the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1851-1861), it was destroyed again. The only remaining Lingxiaobaodian Hall and Juxianlou are the buildings that rebuilt in the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu (AD 1900). In recent years, the Wangmu Hall, the North and South Linguan Pavilion and the Guanhai Promenade have been rebuilt.
The “Songhuahui” of the Taoist is the most prestigious temple fair of Zhonghe Temple, offering the sacrifice to the Jade Emperor. Zhonghe Temple has become one of the famous Taoist temples with more worshippers in the Dali area. According to the general religious knowledge, the Taoist temple should only be dedicated to the Taoist statues. However, there are also Buddhist statues here. This is the product of the integration of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism in Dali.
Cangshan Mountain lies west of Dali Ancient City and Erhai Lake and includes 19 peaks and 18 streams. Mt.Cangshan’s 19 peaks extend 50km north to south in their column formation like a screen. The highest peak is Malong Peak with the height of 4,122 meters (13,524 feet). Waterfalls and surging rivers emit thunderous roars. Malongfeng, the main peak, shoots up into the sky with its top clogged with dazzling snow all the year round. ‘Clouds, Snow, Peaks and Streams’ are four spectacular views of the Mountain. May and June are the perfect months to visit Cangshan Mountain since at that time it’s carpeted with many kinds of flowers. The azaleas are the most eye-catching.
