Features of Fengxue Mountain Pass

On the Gaoligong mountain in Nujiang Prefecture, there is a Fengxue Pass. It is surrounded by rolling mountains and flanked by high, cloud-capped peaks. The climate here is changeable all the year round, sometimes mist-shrouded, sometimes sand and stone flying, and some times rain and snow falling. In particular, from December to march and April of the next year, heavy snow like goose feather covers the sky, turning the pass and the mountains near the pass into a vast sea of snow.

Due to the influence of the Indian Ocean monsoon and the Siberian cold current, the wind from the direction of Pianma township of Yunnan is particularly strong. And the peculiar shape of mountains make the wind blowing from the deep valley on both sides of the pass from time to time. When one wind was stronger than the other, the snow rolled up on the ground moved forward like waves, very spectacular. What’s more, when the two winds don’t agree, the snow that rises from the ground or the sky like a rocket goes up into the air with breathtaking speed, so amazing.
