Former Residence of Wang Fusheng and Wang Desan in Xiangyun County, Dali
The Former Residence of Wang Fusheng (王复生, Wáng Fùshēng) and Wang Desan (王德三, Wáng Désān) is a provincial-level key cultural relic protection site, a patriotic education base, and a “Red Heritage” on-site teaching base. It is located in Wangjiazhuang Village (王家庄村, Wángjiāzhuāng Cūn).
A plaque above the entrance reads “Former Residence of Martyrs Wang Fusheng and Wang Desan.” Born in the late 19th century, the brothers left their childhood marks here before becoming notable revolutionary martyrs in the history of the Chinese Communist Movement.
Location
Address: Wangjiazhuang Village (王家庄村, Wángjiāzhuāng Cūn), Liu Factory Town (刘厂镇, Liú Chǎng Zhèn), Xiangyun County (祥云县, Xiángyún Xiàn), Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture (大理白族自治州, Dàlǐ Bái Zìzhìzhōu), Yunnan Province (云南省, Yúnnán Shěng).
The residence is a traditional Yunnan wooden structure featuring a main courtyard surrounded by a three-bay, double-eaved wooden building, forming a Siheyuan (四合院, traditional courtyard house). Its layout includes a “three rooms and a screen wall” design (三坊一照壁, sān fáng yī zhàobì). The courtyard covers about 640 square meters, with a construction area of approximately 1,200 square meters.
Pursuing Red Memories and Inheriting Red Spirit
Wang Fusheng was one of the 19 founders of China’s first Marxist research group, the Marxist Studies Association at Peking University (北京大学马克思学说研究会, Běijīng Dàxué Mǎkèsī Xuéshuō Yánjiūhuì), and the first Communist Party of China (中国共产党, Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng) member from Yunnan. His brother Wang Desan helped found the Shaanxi North Party organization and served as the first Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee (云南省委员会, Yúnnán Shěng Wěiyuánhuì), contributing to Yunnan’s liberation.
The residence was designated a county-level cultural relic protection site in 1985, a provincial key cultural relic in 1993, a patriotic education base in 2009, and in 2012 became one of four on-site teaching bases for cadre education in the province.
