Longquan Park (龙泉公园) is located on the hillside of Zhaobi Mountain (照壁山) in the southern part of Xinping Yi and Dai Autonomous County (新平彝族傣族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It lies at an elevation of 1,658 meters and is about 5.6 kilometers from the county seat. The park covers an area of 1.53 square kilometers and is divided into upper and lower scenic zones.
History and Culture
The park is named after Longquan Temple (龙泉寺), which was originally built in 1905 (Guangxu 31st Year of Qing Dynasty) under the initiative of County Magistrate Zhan Tan (詹坦). The original temple featured a traditional wooden post-and-beam structure with a gabled roof, comprising a main hall with tiled roofing and auxiliary rooms on both sides, forming a courtyard. The temple was rebuilt in 1984 on its original site and has since evolved into a comprehensive destination for leisure, sightseeing, and vacation.
Folk Customs
A grand temple fair is held annually on the first day of the eighth lunar month, attracting large crowds and filling the forested paths with incense. During the Spring Festival and the same lunar date, people also flock to the park for mountain walks and sightseeing.
Climate and Best Time to Visit
Longquan Park (龙泉公园) experiences a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is pleasant and the scenery is at its most vibrant.
