History and Culture
The history of Jiulongchi (九龙池) dates back to before the Qing Dynasty (清朝). The original temple was founded before the Qing era and has undergone several renovations and expansions. According to the “Inscription of the Jiulongchi Renovation” (《重修九龙池碑记》), by 1729 (the 7th year of Emperor Yongzheng’s reign), a stone bridge had been newly constructed, resembling a rainbow lying over the waves. The temple and pavilion were also refurbished, resembling the sacred Mount Putuo. The spring water of Jiulongchi is crystal clear, flowing from rocks and forming a limpid pond that reflects one’s image.
