Luo Yufang – Master of Yi Ethnic Costume Making in Yao’an County, Chuxiong

Profile

Luo Yufang(罗玉芳) was born in 1951, and she is Yi ethnic minority,  lived in Guantun Township, Yao’an County(姚安县关屯乡) Chuxiong City.

Personal Experiences

Since childhood, she has suffered from poliomyelitis(小儿麻痹症). She can not walk and knows words. At the age of 8, she learned embroidery from his mother and learnt to cut patterns with the old people in the village. By the age of 12, he had a knitting job recognized in Mayou(马游) area. As she grew older, her craftsmanship grew better. Many local girls were asked  her to make wedding or festival clothes. Slowly, she was able to make Yi ethnic minority’s clothes to support her life. Her works were collected by the Chuxiong State People’s Committee,  the Yao’an County People’s Committee exhibition of  Chuxiong Museum. In 1987, her works were collected by the Provincial Mass Art Museum and sent to Beijing for exhibition.

Achievements

She  is the first  batch of inheritor of provincial intangible cultural heritage.

Her works were collected by the Chuxiong State People’s Committee,  the Yao’an County People’s Committee exhibition of Chuxiong Museum. In 1987, her works were collected by the Provincial Mass Art Museum and sent to Beijing for exhibition.
