Nie Er Cultural Square (聂耳文化广场) is located on the extended section of Qiyang Road (棋阳路延长线) in Hongta District (红塔区), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is a landmark cultural facility in the city center.

Longxi Aristocratic Manor (陇西世族庄园) is located in Dapingzhang Village Group, Yaonan Village, Jiasha Town (戛洒镇耀南村大平掌村民小组), Xinping County (新平县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is near Zhaojiacun Road (赵家村路) and about 30 kilometers from downtown Xinping.
Construction of Longxi Aristocratic Manor (陇西世族庄园) began in 1938 and was completed in 1943. The manor was the residence of Li Runzhi (李润之), the last heir of the hereditary Tusi (土司) Li Xianzhi (李显智), who was granted the title of Tubazong (土把总) by Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty.
The manor combines architectural styles of medieval European castles with traditional Chinese courtyard design. It comprises the main building, a garden, and stables, covering an area of 4.2 mu (approx. 2,800 square meters), with a total construction area of 1,837.42 square meters and 69 rooms.
In 1995, it was designated as a patriotism education base in Xinping County, and in 2001 it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site.
Xinping County is one of the main settlements of the Huayao Dai (花腰傣) ethnic group, known for their vibrant traditional customs.
Every year from May 1st to 3rd, Jiasha Town (戛洒集镇) hosts the Huayao Dai Bathing Festival (花腰傣风情沐浴节), featuring unique activities like water-fetching blessings, water-splashing welcome ceremonies, and the traditional water-pouring ritual.
The region also offers a rich food culture, including flower banquets (鲜花宴) and local pickled dishes.

English Name: Former Residence of Liu Pingkai in Yiliang county, Zhaotong
The Former Residence of Liu Pingkai is situated at No. 11, East Zheng Street, Yiliang County. Built in the 18th year of the Guangxu era (1902) by Liu’s father, the residence covers approximately 2,000 square meters, with a building area of over 400 square meters. The complex consists of two main buildings, a courtyard, and a garden. Both buildings are constructed of wood and stone, with a width of 12 meters and a depth of 7 meters, featuring a single eaves and a gabled roof. The structure is oriented north to south, with the southern facade facing the street. After 1950, the residence was repurposed and, following various changes, only the ruins remain today.
On October 22, 1986, the Yiliang County People’s Government designated the residence as a “First Batch of County-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units.”
Early Life
Liu Pingkai was born in October 1902 in the Wumeng Mountains of Yiliang County, Yunnan Province. In 1919, he participated in the patriotic student movement supporting the May Fourth Movement in Kunming, becoming an active participant and organizer.
Personal Achievements
where he worked on labor movements and party organization, eventually becoming the secretary of the Xinyang Local Executive Committee and a standing member of the CCP’s Yuxian District Executive Committee. His efforts helped make Xinyang one of the early areas for peasant movements.
Liu Pingkai’s life and dedication remain a significant part of the revolutionary history in China.

Yang Likun’s Former Residence is located in Mohei Town, Ning’er County, and features traditional brick and wood architecture. The total area of the residence is 1,250 square meters, with a building area of 590.77 square meters. The project, which received an investment of 1.45 million RMB, was set to be completed by December 31, 2010. Site selection, demolition, and design, including the collection and organization of exterior data, were finished. The Yang Likun Former Residence Reconstruction Council was established on August 5, 2010. Dali Guofeng Ancient Yuanlin Co., Ltd. won the bid with an offer of 1.0656 million RMB.
The film Five Golden Flowers gained popularity from the 1950s to the 1970s, featuring Yang Likun as Jinhua. The film, which depicted Dali as a dreamlike place, remains memorable with the song “Dali in March is a beautiful sight, Butterfly Spring is a great place for dressing up.” 2010 marked the 10th anniversary of Yang Likun’s death. Her roles in Five Golden Flowers and Ashima earned her international acclaim and established her as an iconic figure in Chinese film history. Her legacy continues to contribute to Yunnan’s cultural and economic development, with the residence serving as a key element in Mohei’s tourism and cultural projects.
Mohei Ancient Town is known for its historical significance in salt production, the tea horse road, revolutionary history, and beauty. It is a provincial-level historical and cultural town. Key attractions include Simao Farm, Daduogang Farm, Nake Li Tea Horse Road Post Station, Mohei Ancient Town, and Yang Likun’s Former Residence. Visitors are warmly welcomed and provided with a tour map to help locate Yang Likun’s Former Residence, which is situated opposite Ashima Square in the town center.
Mohei Ancient Town, oriented west-to-east, is situated by mountains and rivers. The Mohei River flows through the town, irrigating fields and gardens. The main road is a polished stone path, simple and elegant. A small stream runs alongside, with red fish swimming in clear waters. A large banyan tree stands near Yang Likun’s Former Residence. Visitors sign a registration form before entering. The residence features traditional blue bricks and gray tiles, with a lifelike white statue and couplets reading: “Ashima forever in the film world, Yang Likun forever in the human world.” Exhibits in the residence detail Yang Likun’s life and achievements.
Yang Likun was born into a Yi family of salt merchants in Mohei. In 1952, she moved to Kunming with her sister and joined the Yunnan Provincial Art Troupe in 1954. At 18, in 1959, she was cast as Jinhua in Five Golden Flowers, a role that gained international acclaim and won her the “Best Actress Silver Hawk Award” at the second Asia-Africa Film Festival in 1960. In 1964, she starred as Ashima in Ashima, a film initially shelved but later released in 1979 to great success. Yang’s performances left a lasting impression, and her characters became enduring symbols of beauty and cultural pride. Both films are considered iconic works in Yunnan’s artistic history. In 2006, she was awarded the “Yunnan Literary and Artistic Contribution Award” by various provincial cultural organizations.
At dusk, the museum staff closes the doors and lights. Exhibits include aspects of Yang Likun’s childhood, career, and peak moments. The display also features contributions from contemporary and past cultural figures, including Chen Huangmei, Wang Suya, Zhao Lüzhū, Bai Xue, and others, reflecting the rich legacy of Chinese film and cultural arts.

Before Visit to Yan Family Compound:
Thirty-three kilometers from Xiaguan and by the side of Erhai Lake lies the town of Xizhou. Historically, it was a military fortress of the ancient Nanzhao Kingdom as well as the Nanzhao King’s temporary palace. Because of its favourable geographical situation, before 1949 the town used to be a commercial center that was home to more than 140 national capitalist families including the successful Yan, Dong, the Yin and Yang families. In recent years, streets and roads have been widened, new markets have been established, and a scene of prosperity prevails. In 1988, one of the Yang family’s compounds was opened to foreign visitors and was called “Xizhou Tianzhuang” (Countryside Villa at Xizhou) by the Tourist Bureau of Dali Prefecture.
About Yan Family Conpound:
Yan’s Compound in Xizhou is the most representative of Bai-style residences, about 13 kilometers (8.08 miles) from Dali City. The compound covers an area of about 3,066 square meters (0.76 acres), built around the 1920’s. As a whole, it is divided into four parts and each part is cleverly linked together. After visiting this impressive compound, one will ameliorate the admiration for its magnificence and the Bai people’s architectural gifts.
Xizhou traditional houses are built in typical Bai style, called “Sanfang Yizhaobi”, which is a courtyard rooms on three sides and a screen wall on the remaining side. Another Bai architectural design is called the “Sihe Wutianjing”, which is composed of one big courtyard with four smaller ones at the four corners of the main one. Xizhou Town is composed of more than 88 compounds of this kind. Some have several yards and some have yards within yards. These houses often have painted roofs and pillars, upturned eaves, and “dougong” systems (double bow-shaped brackets on columns supporting upturned eaves), which are unique to the Bai minority.
Upon entering, one’s eyes will fall upon the principal house with it’s screen wall and two wings. According to the tradition of Bai-style architecture, the screen wall should face east in order to make use of the early morning sun and reflect the light into the inner rooms. Additionally, the screen wall, adorned with elaborate caligraphy and paintings, is considered as a talisman; the Bai people believe it brings good blessing.
Walking inside, one will see the second and then the third parts, each of the parts is enclosed by four houses with four small rooms built between each of the houses.The final house of the compound embraces a modern, western architectural style.
