Baxin Yi Ethic Town in Wenshan City, Wenshan
Baxin Yi Ethnic Township (坝心彝族乡) is located in the northwest of Wenshan City (文山市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Xigu Township (喜古乡) to the east, Xiaojie Town (小街镇) to the south, and Bozhu Town (薄竹镇) and Matang Town (马塘镇) to the west and north. The township government is stationed in Baxin Village (坝心村), approximately 45 km from downtown Wenshan (文山市) and 19 km from Wenmeng Highway (文蒙公路).
Cultural History
The township derives its name from its location at the center of a small basin. During the Qing Dynasty, the area belonged to Xigu Division (喜古甲) of Lelongli (乐龙里). In 1949, it was part of the 3rd Bao (保) of Xigu Township (喜古乡). After several administrative changes, it was established as Tapie Commune (他披公社) in 1966, renamed Baxin District (坝心区) in 1985, and officially designated as Baxin Yi Ethnic Township (坝心彝族乡) in 1988.
Folk Culture
The township is home to multiple ethnic groups including Han, Yi, Miao, and Zhuang. The Yi culture is particularly vibrant, with the traditional Torch Festival (火把节) celebrated annually on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month. The Miao ethnic group also maintains unique festivals closely tied to their customs.
