Dianzhong Town (甸中镇) is located in the northern part of Eshan Yi Autonomous County (峨山彝族自治县), Yuxi City (玉溪市). It is bordered by Luohexiang Yi Autonomous Township (洛河彝族乡) of Hongta District (红塔区) to the east, Chahe Township (岔河乡) to the south, Dalongtan Township (大龙潭乡) to the west, and ShiJie Yi Autonomous Township (十街彝族乡) of Yimen County (易门县) to the north. The town is 59 kilometers away from the county seat of Eshan and covers an area of about 189.4 square kilometers.

History and Culture

Dianzhong Town (甸中镇) has a long history. It was once part of Qiongchuan Prefecture (邛川郡) during the Han Dynasty. During the Yuan Dynasty, it was established as a hundred-household office. In the Qing Dynasty, it was part of Dingui Township (丁癸乡). During the Republic of China, it was successively part of Xunzhuang Township (勋庄乡), Wenyi Township (文蔚乡), and Yuping Township (玉屏乡). In 1949, it was renamed Wenyi District (文玉区), which was later changed to the Fourth District (四区) in 1950. In 1958, it became Dianzhong Commune (甸中公社), and in 1961, it was divided into Dianzhong and Yani Communes (亚尼公社). In 1962, they were merged to form Dianzhong District Office (甸中区公所), which was later renamed the Fourth District (四区) in 1963 and Dianzhong Commune (甸中公社) in 1969. In 1983, it was renamed Dianzhong Township (甸中乡), and in 1984, it became a district office again. In 1987, it was reorganized into a township, and in 1996, it was upgraded to a town.
