Basic Introduction

Xiaozhai Village is a Hui ethnic village with a concentrated Muslim population. The local Hui community adheres to the Jahriyya (哲赫林耶) order of Islam. According to the mosque’s stone stele, the mosque was established in 1801 during the 5th year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign. Initially, it was modest in scale and built with simple materials.

During the Xianfeng and Tongzhi periods (咸丰、同治), the mosque was destroyed following the suppression of the Hui Muslim uprising in Yunnan. It was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Guangxu reign (光绪十三年, 1887), with expanded scale and improved layout, forming a complex that includes the main prayer hall, south and north wing rooms, and a central hall. The mosque was rebuilt once again in 1982.

Today, the mosque covers a total area of 9 mu. The prayer hall alone occupies 560 square meters. The mosque complex includes two multi-story wing buildings arranged in a symmetrical and harmonious layout.
