Yan Waluo was born in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous County in 1959. He is the representative inheritor of the Bulang Folk Song Project.
Yanwaluo(岩瓦洛) liked the folk songs of the Bulang Ethnic since he was a child. At the age of 16, he officially learnt from the old artist of Yan San(岩三) in the village. In just two and a half years, he fully grasped the traditional singing method of the folk songs of the Bulang Ethnic Minority.
He has a wealth of vocals and a strong improvisation ability, and is well received by the masses. Even the Bulang Ethnic in South Myanmar have invited him to sing. He is a well-known folk singer among the local and overseas Bulang people.

Cha Chunmei(茶春梅) was born in 1962 in Qingyun Village(青云村), Ma’anshan Township(马鞍山乡), Weishan(巍山) Yi Autonomous County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. She is a representative inheritor of the Yi Dage Project which is Folk Song and Dance of Yi Ethnic Minority.
Cha Chunmei loved the folk songs and dances of the Yi Ethnic since childhood, and pursued the folk art of the Yi Ethnic. She gradually grew into a backbone of folk songs and dances and won praises from the masses.
Her Dage has bright rhythm and diverse pace, such as Sixteen Steps of Swaying(十六步平摆), Sanbu Yinian(三步一掂), Banfan Banzhaun(半翻半转), Sanfan Liangzhuan(三翻两转) , etc. In addition to Yi Dage, she can also sing many Yi folk songs. With sweet and high voice, she is a well-known folk singer.

Feng Jiming(俸继明) was born in 1955 in Da Nan Zhi Village(大南直村), Bangbing Township(邦丙乡), Shuangjiang Lahu, Wa and Bulang and Dai Autonomous County(双江拉祜族佤族布朗族傣族自治县), Linan City(丽江). He was a representative inheritor of Bulang Bee-barrel Drum Dance Project.
Feng Jiming grew up in the Bulang Mountain Village since childhood, and has a special liking for Bee-barrel Drum Dance. At the age of 11, he learned the bee drums production method and the bee barrels Drum Dance with the master of the village. After three years, he mastered all the craftsmanship of the bee barrels Drum, as well as the traditional drumming style and the various difficult skills inspired by the bee bucket. Therefore, he was called the “Drum King” by the masses of the village.
In 1971, he was hired by the county civil engineering team and received formal training. After painstaking study and research, his cultural level and artistic performance skills were significantly improved, and he became the “beef drum prince” of the county cultural team.
In 1984, due to lack of labor at home, he gave up his beloved work and went home for farming. After returning home, he still studied the bee barrels Drum carefully, and did not give up the persistent pursuit of national folk traditional culture.

Li Zengbao(李增保) was born in 1932 in Cun Xiazhai(村下寨), Datangzi Village(大塘子村), Zhutang Township(竹塘乡), Lahu Autonomous County, Puer City. He was a representative inheritor of the Lahu Reed Dance Project.
Li Zengbao loved his traditional culture since he was a child. At the age of 15, he began to learn Lusheng Dance with the father and learn to sing the ancient songs of the nation.When he was 20 years old, he basically mastered the movements and routines of the Lusheng Dance. He was famous in the local area.
At the age of 40, he mastered more than 100 sets of Lusheng Dance, especially good at Gaji(嘎祭), old man dance(老人物), Yanuoga(亚诺嘎), open door dance(开门舞), monkey dance(猴子舞), etc. And he can sang the epic “Mupamipa”(牡帕密帕) completely.
His Lusheng Dance moves are in place, with vivid image and lively rhythm, forming a deep but firm and flexible artistic style, completely retaining the original and primitive Lusheng dance charm, with distinct national characteristics and artistic appeal.
Li Zengbao often uses spare time to organize local people to teach Lusheng Dance. Under his leading and teaching, a group of young Lusheng dancers are active in the local area and appear in various cultural activities. Li Zengbao played an active role in inheriting and developing the Lahu dance.

Li Hongyuan(李鸿源) was born in Hongta District(红塔区), Yuxi(玉溪市) in 1937. He was the representative Inheritor of Huadeng Music in Hongta District, Yuxi.
Influenced by his father Li Shou(李寿), Li Hongyuan(李鸿源) began singing Yunnan Opera(滇剧) and Huadeng Music(花灯) when he was young. After entering the Huadeng Troupe of the People’s Theatre in Yuxi District(玉溪专区人民戏院花灯团) in 1955, Li Hongyuan was engaged in the composition of Huadeng Music under the guidance of Xue Guoxing(薜国兴), Yang Jiongming(杨炯明) and Ouyang Zhang(欧阳璋). Li Hongyuan is proficient in the Yuanliu(源流) and Qulpai(曲牌) of Huadeng Music, and has designed music and singing tunes for more than 200 lantern plays such as Moxinv(《莫悉女》) and won many prizes in provincial and national competitions.
Li Hongyuan’s Huadeng Music not only has the distinct features of Huadeng Music, but also conforms to the characteristics and feelings of the characters. On the basis of inheriting Yuxi Huadeng Music, Li Hongyuan also absorbed and integrated other music materials to innovate Yuxi Huadeng Music. He summarized six techniques of Huadeng Music, namely, Decoration(套用装饰), Emphasis features(重点突出), Variety(一曲多变), Connection(曲牌连接), Collection(摘句集曲) and Multi-tone(多声色彩).

Chen Keqin(陈克勤), Han nationality, was born in Hongta district, Yuxi city in 1935, who is the inheritor of Lantern music(花灯音乐). Influenced by his family since his childhood, Chen Keqin loves lantern performance art very much.
After graduating from high school, he joined the publicity team of Yuxi Federation of Industry and Commerce(玉溪工商联), and participated in the preparation of Yuxi People’s Experimental Troupe(人民实验剧团). In 1952, Chen Keqin joined the lantern group of the troupe (later renamed Lantern Troupe). During the 7 years in the troupe, Chen Keqin was particularly fond of studying lantern singing, drama literature and musical instrument accompaniment, and was carefully taught by famous artists — Xue Guoxing(薛国兴), Yang Jiongming(杨炯明) and Wu Jiashun(吴家顺). In lantern show, especially in lantern singing, he not only inherited the skills of the older generation of lantern artists, but also brought forth the new, and gradually formed his own singing characteristics.
He is an all-round artist, also as a director, band accompaniment, can be said to be versatile. At the height of his acting career, Chen Keqin was wrongly labeled a “Rightist“(右派) in 1958 and spent 22 years in prison.
For a long time, Chen Keqin is committed to Yuxi lanterns’ creation, performance of the play and popularized work. He collected more than 1.3 million words about Yuxi lantern information and created 13 lantern plays for amateur performers. In his creation, he paid great attention to the application of local customs and slang in traditional plays, making lantern songs easy to understand and popular with the public. In 1989, he won the Advanced Worker Award(先进工作者奖)of the national key scientific research project –“ Chinese Opera Records — Yunnan Volume”(《中国戏曲志·云南卷》). The Drama Records of Yuxi Area(《玉溪地区戏曲志》)edited by him won the third prize in the compilation of historical records of Yunnan province. Dao Baoshun(刀保顺) — was born in Jiegao Village, Old Town(旧城镇) in Yingjiang County(盈江县), Dehong Dai Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture(德宏傣族景颇族自治州). He is the only national Dai opera inheritor in Yingjiang and devoted himself to the preservation of Dai literature. Born in 1937, Dao Baoshun is proficient of the new and old Dai language and Han language. He was the curator of Yingjiang’s cultural center, now he is retired.
Dao Baoshun — the only national Dai opera inheritor in Yingjiang County, Dehong, who devoted himself to the preservation of Dai literature. Dao baoshun has followed his mother to learn the creation and performance of Dai opera since very young. After ten years old, he became a monk in the Peilong Temple(培龙寺) of his village. He was under the guidance of eminent monk Longfu龙福 (Zhaonong召弄 in Dai language) and Renfa任法 (Zhaoji召几 in Dai language). He systematically and comprehensively studied the techniques of Dai opera, such as composing, performing, singing, costumes, makeup, props, etc., mastered the singing and playing skills, and persistently devoted himself to the arrangement, translation, research and popularization of Dai opera for a long time.
In 1962, he adapted and processed the third scene of “Thousands Petals of Lotus”(《千瓣莲花》), an excellent traditional Dai folk play, and participated in the first Ethnic Drama Watching and Performing Conference(民族戏剧观摩演出大会) in Yunnan province, which was included in the book “Yunnan Ethnic Drama Assembly “(《云南民族戏剧剧目汇编》) in 1984.
Since the 1980 s, he collected Dai Opera more than 120 , and translated of more than 310 plays, and insist to teach Dai opera in the old town for a long time, the main plays are: “Langtuihan”(《朗退罕》), “Thousands Petals of Lotus”(《千瓣莲花》), “E Bing and Sangluo”(《娥并与桑洛》), “Haihan”(《海罕》), “The Spider Girl”(《蜘蛛姑娘》), and adapted “TheTwelve Dragon Girl”(《十二龙女》) into song and dance drama. He is recognized as the Dai opera’s inheritor and researchers by Dai people in Dehong, made great contributions to the Dai opera’s inheritance and development.

Li Xueqiang(李学强), Lisu ethnic minority, was born in 1959 in Sanchahe village(三岔河村), Luzhang town(鲁掌镇), Lushui city(泸水市), Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture(怒江傈僳族自治州), the inheritor of “Climbing the Knife Pole and Diving into the Fire Sea”(上刀山下火海).
Li Xueqiang has been fond of artistic performances since his childhood, he often took part in various recreational activities with his grandfather, and has a comprehensive understanding of the Lisu ethnic customs. In 1974, his grandpa began to teach him the skill of “Climbing the Knife Pole and Diving into the Fire Sea”. After years of training and practice, he completely mastered the full set of procedures, essentials and skills of this stunt.
In the late 1980s, this technique in Lushui county was difficult to inherit due to lack of funds. In order to save and carry forward this ancient stunt, he raised funds from many sources and collected all the necessary equipment. And in February 1988, he performed in the Deng Gengzao gathering(登埂澡塘会), after which he became famous. In 1999, Lufeng Ethnic Folk Art Troupe of Lushui county(泸水县泸峰民族民间艺术团) was founded, and he joined the troupe to perform this stunt. Nowadays, he is the inheritor of Lushui’s unique skill of “Climbing the Knife Pole and Diving into the Fire Sea”, He has both successors and disciples.
Li Xueqiang’s feat of “Climbing the Knife Pole and Diving into the Fire Sea” has a wide influence in the Lisu people, and attracted the attention of the national media, CCTV, Xinhua and others have interviewed him. In October 1998, he won the second prize of performance in the sixth Ethnic Games(民运会) of Yunnan Province. Influenced by her family and older generations of artists, Zhong Tianzhen began to learn Hulusheng Dance with her mother since she was 12 years old. Every time from the first to the third day of the first lunar month, and the “Qiaocai Festival”(荞菜节), she would lead the villagers in Manlong village to dance and sing folk songs. Zhao Pidding(赵丕鼎), Bai ethnic minority, was born in 1942 in Zuoyi village(作邑村), Xizhou town(喜洲镇), Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture(大理白族自治州), the inheritor of Raosanling(绕三灵) of Bai people . Zhao Piding was born in a family of Bai folk artists. His great-grandfather, grandfather and father were all performing artists of Bai folk Daben songs(大本曲). Since his childhood, he has been influenced by what he has seen and heard.
He started to perform in 1964.he is familiar with the “three tune”(三腔), “Jiuban”(九板), “eighteen melody”(十八调) of the Daben song(大本曲) in the performance, and use them freely. He integrated the characteristics of southern and northern tune , so as to apply them to different records and characters flexibly . Daben song is a part of Bai people’s folk activities — Raosanling ceremony. His articulation is clear, singing tune is mellow, he can play many roles by himself and change vocal cavity. He is deeply deeply loved by the masses, becoming a quite famous Daben song singing artist.
ZhaoPiding has a good understanding of the historical origin and folk activities of Raosanling ceremony, and has a good command of all kinds of sacrifices, rituals and performances in the folk activities. Moreover, he can play a guiding role in this folk activity and is the leader of Bai folk traditional culture. Zhao Piding collected more than 80 traditional scripts, and adapted and created nearly 100 new ones. He compiled and published three traditional scripts — Records of Liaodong(《辽东记》), Butterfly Lovers(《梁祝配》) and Butterfly Spring(《蝴蝶泉》), and cultivated more than 40 successors of this script. Xiong Ziyi (熊自义), Yi ethnic minority, whose Lisu name is Jie Boruo(芥柏若), was born in 1941, living in New Lomi Eba village(新洛米俄巴村), Yezhi township(叶枝乡), Weixi county(维西县) of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture(迪庆藏族自治州). At the age of 25, singing “Chuyumugua”处于目刮 (funeral melody) and “Qimahua”起马华目刮 (marriage melody), He helped some families preside over the funeral ceremony or the wedding ceremony.
Xiong Ziyi can not only sing many tunes, but also master the full set of singing and dancing movements of “Achimu gua”(阿尺目刮). He is indispensable to host, dance and sing in all kinds of sacrificial activities of festivals in the village. Especially in the Yi’s New Year (Kuoshi Festival阔食节), he also served as the leader and organizer of large dance activities in the village.
