Funing Railway Station (富宁站) is located in Gefu Village, Xinhua Town, Funing County, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, approximately 6 km from the county center. It forms part of the Nanning–Kunming Railway, also known as the Yun-Gui Railway, and officially opened on December 28, 2016. As the easternmost passenger station on the Yunnan section of this railway, it is often described as the “Eastern Gateway to Yunnan.” With two platforms and four tracks, the station serves D-series high-speed electric multiple-unit trains and marked the end of the era when Funing had no railway connection. Today, it provides a convenient rail gateway for travelers interested in Zhuang ethnic culture and the spectacular karst landscapes of southeastern Yunnan.

    Railway Line Information

The Yun-Gui Railway is a double-track, electrified railway designed for operating speeds of up to 200 km/h. From Funing, westbound trains travel through Guangnan, Puzhehei, and Mile before reaching Kunming South Railway Station. Eastbound services leave Yunnan and continue toward Baise and Nanning in Guangxi.

Station Sequence on the Yunnan Section of the Yun-Gui Railway

The main stations listed on this section are Kunming South Railway Station → Mile Railway Station → Puzhehei Railway Station → Guangnan Railway Station → Funing Railway Station.

Funing is also known as the “Hometown of Star Anise,” offering visitors a chance to experience local Zhuang traditions, rural scenery, and the distinctive cultural atmosphere of the borderlands.

    Ticket Booking and Passenger Regulations

Tickets can be booked through China Railway’s official 12306 platform, station ticket counters, self-service ticket machines, or overseas travel-booking platforms. Real-name ticketing applies, so passengers must travel with the identification document used for booking. International visitors should keep their passports with them throughout the journey. If a travel document is lost, passengers can consult the railway police service counter at the station about obtaining a temporary travel certificate. With the electronic-ticket system, passengers can generally enter the station by presenting the required identification document, without printing a paper ticket.

Trains usually stop for a limited time, so passengers should avoid getting off to take photographs unless Funing is their intended destination. Large suitcases and outdoor equipment must comply with the railway’s baggage regulations.

    Best Seats for Scenic Views

When traveling from Kunming toward Funing, a window seat on the right-hand side is recommended for scenic views. Depending on the exact route and weather conditions, passengers may see the karst peaks, green valleys, farmland, and traditional villages characteristic of southeastern Yunnan. Daytime services provide natural light that can be ideal for photographing the region’s distinctive limestone landscapes.

    Practical Travel Tips

Station transfers: The station forecourt has access to buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services for travel to Funing County’s urban center. The station area also has a road–rail passenger transfer hub, with long-distance bus services connecting Funing with surrounding townships.

Station facilities: The waiting hall provides self-service ticketing equipment and a passenger service desk, covering essential travel needs.

Best time to visit: October to April is generally drier and more comfortable for sightseeing. Summer brings lush vegetation but can also be hot, humid, and rainy, so carrying an umbrella or rain jacket is advisable.

Getting around: Attractions around Funing are spread across a relatively large area. The Tuoniang River and Poya Village are some distance from the county center, so visitors may wish to hire a car locally or use rural bus services to reach them.

Peak-season advice: Tickets may be in high demand during public holidays and other busy travel periods. Booking online in advance is recommended, and travelers should check the latest train schedules before departure.
