Kunming (China) Import & Export Fair

China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair (Kunming Fair for short) is a regional international commodities fair cosponsored by Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the People’s Governments of Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Guizhou Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region and Chengdu City, and co-organized by many institutions from home and abroad. Since its inauguration in 1993, thanks to the nurture and development over the two decades, with the increasing improved level and standard and the enriched contents, Kunming Fair has become an international business platform featuring business negotiations, commodity exhibitions, investment cooperation, service trade, E-business and so on, which has been playing a significant role in the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation between China and countries and regions in Southeast Asia, South Asia and even around the Indian Ocean. Over the past years, Kunming Fair has been awarded several prizes of one of the Best Exhibitions in China, the Ten Famous Brands of Exhibition, the Best-Managed Exhibition, and Golden Dolphin Award.

What to do on the fair

The expos take place each year with the intention of attracting greater foreign business interest and interaction with Yunnan-based companies. This principal goal is part of a larger strategy to build up the province’s economy while also increasing China’s political and commercial footprint in Southeast Asia and beyond — all “in line”, as official pronouncements go, “with [China’s] Belt and Road Initiative”.

Building upon previous successes, three years ago KIEF was coupled with the first China-South Asia Expo, and a trade behemoth was born. Reflecting the twin festivals’ ever-increasing size and importance, this year, as with last, both will be held at a purpose-built facility — the enormous Kunming Dianchi Convention and Exhibition Center.

Many exhibition halls in different themes would be set up during the China-South Asia Expo, including South Asia Hall, Taiwan Hall, International Capacity Cooperation Hall, and so on. Among them, over 50% exhibition halls contain overseas booths.

During the fair, there are a lot of commodities from all over the world—blue sapphire from Sri Lanka, ruby from Myanmar, special local snack from Taiwan, scarf from Nepal, handcrafts and lapis from Afghanistan etc.
