The inaugural Lemon Festival of Nuofu Township, Lancang County, was announced at a press conference attended by representatives from the township’s Party Committee, People's Government, lemon enterprises, and media outlets such as Yunnan Economic Daily, Lancang Radio and Television, and Lancang Information Network. Information officers from various county units and publicity committee members from 20 townships also participated.
The main goal of the Lemon Festival is to enhance the visibility and influence of Nuofu Township’s lemon industry, improve the township’s recognition and reputation, and attract more visitors, investors, and enthusiasts to the region. This, in turn, aims to accelerate the high-quality development of the lemon industry, thereby boosting the local economy and promoting social development.
Nuofu Township introduced the "Eureka" lemon variety from the Tropical and Subtropical Economic Crops Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2012. Over six years of development, the township now boasts 6,500 mu (approximately 1,073 acres) of lemon plantations, with 3,000 mu managed by enterprises and 3,500 mu by individual farmers. In 2017, the industry generated a production value of 12 million yuan, benefiting local lemon growers. The 2018 production was projected to reach 10,000 tons, with an estimated value exceeding 60 million yuan. The lemons, known for their high quality, are primarily sold to first-tier cities like Guangdong, providing a significant source of income for the residents and aiding in poverty alleviation.
The first Lemon Festival will include a variety of events designed to showcase and celebrate the local lemon industry:
