Weishan Yi and Hui Autonomous County (巍山彝族回族自治县) is located in the western part of Yunnan Province, in the southern part of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture.

Geographic Coordinates:

Longitude: Between 99°55′ E and 100°25′ E
Latitude: Between 24°56′ N and 25°32′ N

Surrounding Areas:

North: Borders Dali City.
East: Adjacent to Midu County.
South: Borders Nanjian County and Fengqing County.
West: Divided from Yangbi County and Changning County (in Baoshan Prefecture) by the Yangbi River.

Geographical Features:

Topography: Weishan County is characterized by high mountain ranges, river valleys, and basins, forming a complex landscape. The county is located within the Yunling Mountains, specifically in the northern segment of the Ailao Mountains and Wuliang Mountains.
Elevation: The highest point reaches 3,037 meters above sea level, while the lowest point in the river valleys is around 1,146 meters. The county seat, Weishan Town, is located at an elevation of 1,725 meters.
Rivers: Major rivers include the Xi River, Yangbi River, and Leqiu River. These rivers are seasonal, with rich water flow in the summer and autumn, making them crucial for agricultural irrigation.

Importance of Location:

Weishan is a strategic location between the high mountains to the west and basins to the east, creating a diverse natural environment. It is also a key point in the southwest of Yunnan, close to various other ethnic and cultural regions, particularly the Yi and Hui populations.
