Dongdahe Wetland Park (东大河湿地公园) is a picturesque oasis located approximately 50 kilometers from Kunming (昆明). This wetland park is the largest estuarine wetland in Kunming City. At Dongdahe Wetland, species such as egrets (白鹭), wild ducks (野鸭), and frogs (蛙类), which had either disappeared or become rare, have returned to the shores of Dianchi Lake (滇池) to settle in the lakeside ecological wetland. During summer nights, the park comes alive with the chorus of thousands, even tens of thousands, of frogs croaking in unison.
Previously known as Dongdahe Wetland Park, it was renamed to Nandianchi National Wetland Park (南滇池国家湿地公园) after being declared a national wetland park.
Nandianchi National Wetland Park is located in Jinning County (晋宁县), on the southern shore of Dianchi Lake. It is a beautifully scenic waterside park where visitors can enjoy vast water views, lush greenery, and experience local customs in the unique “Birdcage Village” (鸟笼村). The park also features a sandy beach, making it a delightful destination.
Amidst the park’s vast wetlands, every view reveals the gifts of nature: tranquil waters, pristine water lilies (马蹄莲), and leisurely water birds. If you lean down, you can hear the gentle whispers of nature all around you.
The park offers bicycle rental services, including single and tandem bikes, priced at 20 yuan for a two-seater and 30 yuan for a four-seater (excluding holidays). Riding your favorite bike allows you to travel to the terminal stop of line 4.
There is also a long corridor dedicated to the popularization of knowledge about animals and plants. According to available data, this wetland park is rich in flora and fauna, featuring six types of vegetation groups and twelve vegetation sub-types, with a recorded 223 plant species.
From the line 4 terminal stop, it is about a 500-meter walk to the shore of Dianchi Lake. This location boasts 53 kilometers of lakeside shoreline, perfect for a leisurely stroll while quietly enjoying the sunset reflecting off the water, allowing you to slow down time, escape the city’s noise, and savor moments of tranquility.
Feeling tired? Come rest at Xingwang Village (兴旺村) inside the wetland park, where you will find a farmhouse restaurant called Haigu Fang (海沽坊). To reach it, walk 400 meters straight from the right side of the Xingwang Village Committee. A must-try dish here is the Copper Pot Fish (铜锅鱼), a perfect combination of fresh fish and copper pot, with flavorful broth and tender fish that is refreshing and enjoyable.

Dongdahe Wetland Park in Jinning (晋宁东大河湿地公园) is a picturesque photography destination waiting for your exploration.

Xihua Wetland Park (西华湿地公园) is located on the western shore of Dianchi Lake (滇池), at the foot of Guanyin Mountain (观音山). Covering an area of approximately 781 acres, the park includes 281 acres of ecological wetland. It is home to 1,225 trees, including willows (柳树), Yunnan camphor trees (滇朴), and peach trees (桃树), as well as over 250,000 clumps of aquatic plants. Xihua Wetland Park is a beautiful and tranquil place that photography enthusiasts should not miss. To appreciate the beauty of nature, one must possess the eyes to discover and capture beautiful moments. The scenery of Xihua Wetland retains a simple style, akin to a precious gem, pleasing to both the eyes and the heart. Each plant and tree grows freely, devoid of the uniform layout typically seen in gardens, offering only the simplicity of a natural environment. When you cannot experience nature’s original state in the city, venture further to let your eyes savor the vibrant landscapes of the wetland.
Starting from Xishan District (西山区):
Xihua Wetland Park is a serene destination, featuring lush reeds, secluded boardwalks, the calls of shorebirds, and rippling winds. The landscape beautifully showcases the harmony between lake and mountains. Over 27,000 trees of the water-loving species, such as the middle mountain fir (中山杉), which effectively absorb nitrogen and phosphorus from the water and possess significant economic value, have been planted in the wetland. This contributes to the park’s three-dimensional wetland forest structure of trees, shrubs, and grasses. The surface of the water is adorned with reeds, cattails (香蒲), and windmill grass (风车草).
To reach the park, start from Dianchi Road (滇池路) and take the Gaohai Expressway; the drive takes about half an hour. There are no nearby bus stops, so driving is the most ideal way to visit. The park’s stunning features, including dense reeds, winding boardwalks, the sounds of sea birds, and gentle wind ripples, create a breathtaking environment.
In recent years, the Xishan District Committee and District Government have focused on wetland construction, adopting strategies such as “pollution interception outside the lake, dredging within the lake, water diversion from outside, and ecological restoration.” They have implemented ecological restoration of the lakeside as a foundational approach for managing Dianchi Lake, striving to preserve the original environment as much as possible. Even the wild grasses next to the boardwalk are encouraged to grow naturally.
Overview of Attractions:
Departing from Dianchi Road and heading towards the exit of Gao Hai Expressway, it takes about half an hour by car. There are no nearby bus stops, so driving is the ideal mode of transportation. The park is characterized by dense reeds, secluded boardwalks, the sounds of seabirds, and the movement of wind and waves. The beauty of the lake and mountains is boundless.
Through the planting of more than 27,000 upright and aesthetically pleasing water-loving trees like Chinese fir, which efficiently absorb nitrogen and phosphorus from the water, Xihua Wetland Park has truly become a wetland forest park with a three-dimensional structure of trees, shrubs, and grasses. In recent years, guided by the principles of “pollution interception outside the lake, dredging inside the lake, water transfer from external areas, and ecological restoration,” the Xishan District Committee and Government have prioritized lakeside ecological restoration as the foundation of Dianchi Lake’s management, striving to preserve the original environment to the greatest extent possible, even allowing wild grasses to grow naturally along the boardwalk.
Address: Next to Gao Hai Expressway (near Dianchi Lake).

Changchongshan Mountain Ecological Park (长虫山生态公园) is located at the intersection of Longquan Road (龙泉路) and the northern section of Panlong River (盘龙江) in Wuhua District (五华区), Kunming (昆明). Known also as Snake Mountain (蛇山), it features distinctive topographical characteristics that showcase a rugged individuality. The mountain is largely bare, with few trees, and is covered primarily with grass, alongside stones resembling sheep grazing leisurely under divine care. The arrangement of these stones creates a unique harmony within the natural landscape.
The park lies within the jurisdiction of Hongyun Street Office (红云街道办事处) and Shalang Township Government (沙朗乡政府), bordered by Longquan Road to the east and the northern section of Panlong River to the west, with the West Baisha Reservoir (西白沙河水库) nearby. The unique lava topography of the mountain attracts many mountaineers. On holidays, colorful camping tents dot the landscape, adding a charming touch to the scene. The steep cliffs on the western side of the mountain provide a spacious area suitable for paragliding activities. Due to the sparse tree coverage, the area offers wide views, making it ideal for various leisurely outdoor sports.
The most beautiful seasons to visit Changchongshan Mountain are spring and summer when the tender green grass and the scattered unique stones create a distinctive landscape.

Fajiesi Temple (法界寺), located at the foothills of Lingyun Mountain (灵云山) in Songyang Town (嵩阳镇), is a county-level cultural heritage site. Its exact founding date is unknown, but historical records indicate that it underwent repairs during the Ming Dynasty (明代) under the Chenghua reign (成化年间). By the late Ming Dynasty (明末), during the Chongzhen period (崇祯), the temple had developed into a large architectural complex featuring overlapping halls, altars, pavilions, and structures representing both Buddhism and Daoism, making it the most significant temple among the Eight Great Temples of Songming (嵩明八大寺). The Ming geographer Xu Xiake (徐霞客) documented Fajiesi Temple in his writings.
Originally built between 936 and 947 AD, Fajiesi Temple became a renowned Buddhist holy site. However, from the Republic of China era to the 1960s, it suffered extensive destruction. In 1989, devotees raised funds to rebuild the Guanyin Hall (观音殿). By 1997, during the development of Fajiesi Forest Park (法界寺森林公园), the Daxiongbaodian (大雄宝殿) and side halls were reconstructed, followed by the construction of the Tianwang Hall (天王殿), Caishen Hall (财神殿), Wenchang Palace (文昌宫), and Longwang Hall (龙王殿), all built in ancient-style reinforced concrete. Existing inscriptions from the Ming Dynasty include the “Stele of the Renovation of Fajiesi Temple” (重修法界寺设龙华会碑记) and the “Stele of the Monastery” (丛林碑记), while a Qing Dynasty (清代) inscription from the Daoguang era (道光年间) commemorates the renovation of Zhenjue Temple (真觉寺). On July 5, 1999, the People’s Government of Songming County officially designated Fajiesi Temple as a county-level cultural heritage site.
Fajiesi Temple comprises three gates: the First Gate (一天门), the Second Gate (二天门), and the Third Gate (三天门). Upon passing through the Third Gate, visitors enter the temple area, where numerous halls and shrines, including the Daxiongbaodian, Dizang Hall (地藏菩萨殿), Yuelao Temple (月老神庙), Sanqing Temple (三清观), Yaowang Temple (药王庙), and Guanyin Hall, are situated. The temple features various statues, such as the compassionate Bodhisattva, the formidable Four Heavenly Kings, robust warriors, and smiling Maitreya Buddha (弥勒佛).
Inside the Daxiongbaodian, three majestic figures of the Tathagata Buddha (如来佛) are prominently displayed. Behind the Tathagata is the Thousand-Hand Guanyin (千手观音), depicted with hundreds of hands and numerous expressions, truly embodying her title. The surrounding walls feature vividly expressive statues of the Five Hundred Arhats (罗汉), each with unique appearances, including the long-legged Strength Arhat and the Dragon Subduing Arhat, among others. Visitors often admire these intricate sculptures.
Particularly notable is the Dizang Wang Bodhisattva Hall (地藏王菩萨殿), which, while appearing similar to others, holds profound significance. According to legend, Dizang Wang could have become a Buddha but chose to remain in the mortal realm, famously declaring, “I vow not to become a Buddha until hell is empty!” This sense of justice resonates deeply with many.
In autumn, entering Fajiesi Park (法界寺公园) reveals a picturesque scene. Songming is known for its saying, “Three mountains, four seas, and eight great temples,” suggesting a harmony of natural beauty and spirituality. Fajiesi Forest Park is located 2.5 kilometers northwest of Songming County, once a well-known Buddhist sacred site, with Fajiesi Temple built during the Later Jin period At its peak, the temple complex included over ten halls, creating a grand architectural ensemble that ranked first among the Eight Great Temples of Songming.
Located on Lingyun Mountain, shaped like a half-bloomed lotus flower, Fajiesi Temple is often celebrated for its natural beauty. The temple is surrounded by bamboo forests, creating a serene atmosphere. The ancient path leading up the mountain is reminiscent of a dragon or serpent, winding through lush pine trees. Visitors frequently pray for love at the Yuelao Shrine, attaching love locks as symbols of their promises.
A couplet commemorating the temple’s grandeur reads:
Upper Line:
“Silent twin springs cascade down, beautiful landscapes unfold.
At the valley’s base, the Zen temple is deep; envisioning wealth piled high in all directions, with gentle rains nourishing all.”
Lower Line:
“Ancient paths meander like a snake, steps undulating and winding.
At the mountain’s base, the winding path feels fresh; gazing at the mountain reflecting the sun and moon, prosperity continues in Songming, and all trades flourish.”
The “silent twin springs” refers to the now-dry Black Dragon Pool (黑龙潭), which no longer features the scenic waterfalls of the past. The phrases in the couplet celebrate the beauty of Songming and its prosperous future, highlighting the community’s harmonious development.
Wujiatang Wetland Park (五甲塘湿地公园) is located in the Guandu District (官渡区) of Kunming City (昆明市), Yunnan Province (云南省), specifically within the Liu Jia Township (六甲乡) and Xiaobanquiao area. The park stretches from the Baoxiang River (宝象河) in the south to the Wujiatang River (五甲河) in the north, and it borders Dianchi Lake (滇池) to the west. Covering an area of approximately 1,300 acres, it is equivalent to the size of four Cuihu Parks This park is recognized as Kunming’s first wetland park, showcasing the beautiful scenery of Dianchi, which includes “Emerald Feathers and Red Clouds, Willows in Spring, and Lotus Flowers in Summer.”
Wujiatang Wetland Park is situated within Liu Jia Township and Xiaobanquiao, with significant geographical features surrounding it. The park is primarily composed of water surfaces, tidal flats, and marshes. The total investment for its construction was 530 million yuan, and the development is divided into two phases. Currently, the park’s visitor center, parking lot, public restrooms, viewing paths, and a 60-meter entrance road have been largely completed.

Location:
Zhenghe Park (郑和公园) is a themed park dedicated to commemorating the renowned Chinese admiral and explorer Zheng He (郑和). Located on Yuèshān (月山) in the urban area of Jinning District (晋宁区), the park was established in 1958 and originally named Yuèshān Park (月山公园). In 1978, the local community renamed it Zhenghe Park to honor Zheng He. Spanning an area of 16.67 hectares (250 acres), the park serves as a prominent venue for showcasing Zheng He’s culture and promoting his spirit, thanks to its exceptional natural conditions.
The park features several significant attractions, including:
Among these, the “Mahazhi Tomb Stele” is recognized as a national key cultural relic protection unit, and the “Zheng He Memorial Hall” is one of the first provincial-level patriotic education bases in Yunnan Province (云南省).
Zhenghe Park is characterized by its solemn atmosphere, where towering pines and cypress trees harmonize with fruit orchards. On either side of the South Gate, relief sculptures depict “Zheng He’s Seven Voyages to the West” (郑和七下西洋), showcasing a magnificent fleet sailing westward. The East Gate is situated at the midpoint of Kunyang Street (昆阳大街) and features a glass pavilion topped with red walls.
The park houses the Zheng He Memorial Hall and the Mahazhi Stele. Inside the Zheng He Memorial Hall, over 100 valuable cultural relics are on display, including:
To the west of the hall, among the pine and cypress forest, lies the tomb of Zheng He’s father, Mahazhi. Zheng He lost his father at the age of 11 and could not recall his father’s name. He only knew that both his grandfather and father had made the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, earning them the respectful title of “Haji” (哈只) in Arabic, meaning a pious and knowledgeable pilgrim. Consequently, the stele inscribed “Public Name Haji” became popularly known as the “Mahazhi Stele.”
Additionally, the park features the Zheng He Memorial Pavilion
From the main entrance of Zhenghe Park, visitors ascend steps surrounded by lush greenery and fragrant flowers. Standing at 5.55 meters tall, the Zheng He statue (郑和雕像) rises majestically on a 3-meter-high base shaped like a treasure ship. The statue was designed and crafted by Professor Wang Guanyi (王官乙), the head of the Sculpture Department at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (四川美术学院) and a member of the China Artists Association (中国美术家协会), using granite.
Continuing up, visitors can see the Three Treasures Tower (三宝楼) on one side, while the Mahazhi Tomb rests quietly on the other. The Three Treasures Tower, constructed in the shape of a treasure ship, has three levels. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of Jinning District and the southern shore of Dian Lake (滇池).
The discovery of the Mahazhi Tomb has clarified important details regarding Zheng He’s origins, confirming that he was from Kunyang (昆阳洲). The inscription on the tombstone is one of the most precious historical documents for studying Zheng He.
The Jinning District Museum (晋宁区博物馆) is another significant component of Zhenghe Park and serves as an important platform for promoting Zheng He culture. Officially opened to the public for free on July 11, 2017, the museum features three permanent exhibition halls:
The museum showcases a range of artifacts, including ancient fossils, bronze culture from the Dian Kingdom, and exhibits related to Zheng He. With a collection of 2,275 items, including 8,258 stamps, the museum houses the most precious cultural relics among all museums in Kunming City (昆明市), featuring six national first-class relics, eleven second-class relics, and 156 third-class relics.
The Jinning District Museum aims to promote the “Zheng He Brand” by systematically and comprehensively displaying the historical background, rich materials, and significant meaning of Zheng He’s voyages to the West. Additionally, it organizes educational activities such as “Mobile Museums” that visit schools and communities, and events like “Understanding My Hometown, Loving My Hometown,” to strengthen the communication and dissemination of Zheng He culture.
On November 30, 2022, the “Zheng He Cultural Venue Alliance” (郑和文化场馆联盟) was established in Shanghai, with the Jinning Museum becoming a founding member. Together with 31 cultural institutions and research organizations from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hainan, and Yunnan, they will collaboratively study and promote Zheng He culture.
