Tonghai County History

In the Tang dynasty, Tonghai was a town, but before that, there was no any organizational system in this place. In the Late-Jin dynasty, Tonghai was set as a prefecture. Then, in Yuan dynasty, governors set Tonghai thousand family department header , several years, Tonghai header was abolished and Tonghai county was set. In Ming, Qing dynasty and the period of the Republic of China, nothing changed about the administrative division of Tonghai county. It was not until 1956, was Tonghai county and Hexi county combined to a county named Qilu county, later in 1958, Qilu county and Huaning county was combined again and renamed as Tonghai county.
