Day 1 Lijiang - Baisha Old Town, Baisha Murals, Doctor He's Clinic

Pick-up from your hotel in Lijiang and drive to Baisha Old Town. The town derives its name “Baisha,” meaning “white sand,” from the natural white sands found in the area. As the cradle of the Tusi Dynasty developed by the Mu Clan, Baisha was also the earliest settlement of the Naxi people. Here you can stroll through peaceful ancient lanes and appreciate the authentic lifestyle and traditional architecture of the Naxi community.

Continue to visit the Baisha Murals, preserved inside Dabaoji Palace and several ancient temples. These precious artworks display a remarkable blend of Buddhist, Taoist, Tibetan, and Naxi Dongba cultural elements. The vivid figures and unique artistic style reflect the historical evolution of religion, culture, and art in the region.

After lunch, proceed to Doctor He’s Herbal Clinic. Although the legendary Doctor He has passed away, his son, He Wenshu, continues the family tradition of practicing traditional Chinese medicine. Here, you will observe how local herbal doctors diagnose illnesses, prepare remedies, and preserve centuries-old medical knowledge passed down through generations.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
