Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), abbreviated as "Wenshan Prefecture," is located in the southeastern part of Yunnan Province (云南省), in the southwest border region of China. It borders Baise City (百色市) in Guangxi to the east, Vietnam to the south, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (红河哈尼族彝族自治州) to the west, and Qujing City (曲靖市) to the north. The prefectural capital, Wenshan City (文山市), is the political, economic, and cultural center of the region.

It is a cradle of Di Mother (地母) culture and one of the origins of the world’s bronze drum (铜鼓) culture, which is still preserved today. In 221 BCE, when the Qin Dynasty unified China, Wenshan became part of the multi-ethnic unified country. On April 1, 1958, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was officially established, implementing a system of ethnic regional autonomy.
